The quiff has been a popular men’s hairstyle since the early 1950’s. Today’s quiffs sit high on the head with short sides. The faux hawk is still a popular men’s hairstyle. This is an easy to care for yet polished look
for men.
Men with wavy hair have the option of longer length on the top and brushed to one side. Longer top and tapered on the sides, this slicked back look is perfect for work or play.

If you want length, but not a shaggy back this is the perfect style for you. The long side bangs give this cut real personality. A medium length layered cut gives you many styling options. Wear it brushed forward, slicked back, or in a deep side part. Natural hair is in style for 2013, and this modified afro is one example of a professional style suitable for work yet celebrated the texture of natural hair. This is a very put together look with personality. The longer length is not as severe as a short cut, and the deep side part is very trendy right now.

Young men gravitate toward this skater boy look with good reason. It is fun and sexy. A longer version of the faux hawk, this cut is achieved with gel and hair paste. A longer version of the faux hawk, this cut is achieved with gel and hair paste. This cut fades from very short sides to a longer length at the front hairline. You can wear it styled up or comb it smooth for a different look. If you have curly hair you may think your choices in cuts is limited, but if you find a stylist who is experienced cutting curly hair she can give you many options.

Bobs are still in style and there are many different cuts to choose from. This very trendy bob Rhianna is wearing tapers to a longer length from the nape of the neck to the chin. The deep side part and face framing jagged layers are very flattering for women who have round faces. Bobs can be worn straight wavy, with curls, with or without bangs. Asymmetrical bobs are also popular as well as severely angled bobs with thick straight fringe.

The pixie is another classic short hair style which has been popular since the early 20th Century. Originally made popular by the “flappers” of the 1920’s the pixie has gone through many evolutions since its introduction. Annette Benning’s textured pixie is one example of how you can style this classic cut. You can also wear it straight or slicked back in the trendy wet look. Pixies work best with straight or wavy hair, and it is a fun and chic look for women of all ages.

Don’t forget the impact of color. Hair color has so many options now that you can create your own look with the help of your stylist. In this picture by Goldwell Color, the rich purple adds depth and impact. Red is still the most popular color for the spring, with platinum blonde, and deep chestnut coming in second and third. Ask your stylist for suggestions for a color that will create a dramatic change and give you a whole new look.

This year is the year of the natural curl. Men and women are discovering the freedom of working with, instead of against, their hair’s natural curl patterns. Don’t think you can’t have a cute short cut if you have curly hair. Find a stylist who is experienced cutting curly hair, and she can give you your choice of looks. The key to keeping curly hair looking great is moisture. Use a deep conditioning treatment once a week, and a light leave in conditioner each time you shampoo. Argan oil is perfect for curly hair. It absorbs into the hair shaft and doesn’t leave your hair feeling or looking greasy.

If you’re looking for a new style for next season, why not ask your stylist about a short cut? She can help you find one that is just right for your personal style, time commitment, and face shape. Short hair is sexy and a great look for spring. Ask your stylist for the best hair care and styling products to keep your hair healthy looking and easy to manage.

Choppy Layered Cuts Short are in Style for Spring 2013 – Oklahoma City Hairstylist

Layers are a great choice for almost any hair texture and thickness. Layers set your hair’s natural wave pattern free, and can add volume to thin hair. Choppy layers are becoming a big trend for Spring 2013 (if you watch General Hospital take a look at Carly’s hair). You have a wide variety of choices from very short to past the shoulder length cuts. Choppy layers work best on straight hair, or hair with just a bit of wave. This cut gives straight hair some movement and depth.

This cut is a choppy short cut. Longer on the crown and the sides than a pixie, this cut gives you many styling options. You can wear it brushed forward as in the picture, with a deep side part, middle part, or sweep your hair back for a slick and sophisticated look. Achieve this look with some styling gel while your hair is wet, blow dry it forward, and then bring out the texture with some texture paste.

New Women Hairstyles

The next cut is a shoulder length layered cut which is flattering on almost all facial shapes. Face framing layers and the longer length are very flattering for young women of any age because they soften your features. To get this look apply some volumizing mousse to damp hair, and use a round barrel brush with your blow dryer concentrating heat at the roots of your hair. Once your hair is dry you can use a flat iron along with a heat protecting product to straighten your hair. Texturizing paste is also used for this cut to give your hair a choppy yet sleek look.

Choppy textured layers are a great look for almost every woman. They can be trendy or sophisticated. Ask your stylist to help you find a choppy layer style which is best for your hair texture and thickness. She can also recommend professional products to give you the style you want, and keep it looking great between salon visits.

5 Hot Oscar Hairstyles of the Past – Oklahoma City Hairstylist

The Academy Awards are a time for glitz and glamour, and the upcoming 85th Academy Awards on February 24th will be no exception. In its long history the fashions and hairstyles of this night are awaited with almost as much expectation as the announcement of the Oscar winners. The trends of the next season can be seen on this prestigious night, and hairstylists all across the country will be asked to duplicate these styles. Since the Oscars are just around the corner, it might be fun to see some of the hottest hairstyles of the past decade. Here are five of the top Oscar hairstyles of the past few years.

In 2009 Reese Witherspoon won an Oscar for her performance as June Carter Cash in “Walk the Line”. Her hair was styled in a sophisticated chignon. To get this style, apply some texturizing spray to damp hair and blow dry it with the diffuser attachment. Scrunch your hair as you dry it, and then sweep it back into a ponytail. Twist random sections of your hair around the base of the ponytail and secure them with bobby pins.

Charlize Theron wore her hair in a wavy bob in 2004. This style is achieved by old fashioned pin curls. Apply mousse to damp hair and blow dry it until it is almost dry, but still damp. Create a deep side part and divide your hair into one inch section, roll them each up into a pin curl and secure with two bobby pins. Once your hair is completely dry, unclip the bobby pins, gently brush it out, and form the curls into soft waves with a comb.

Cate Blanchette’s half updo is still a very chic style. In 2008 Cate wore her hair in the pretty feminine style when she was nominated for her role in “Elizabeth: The Golden Age”. Get lots of body by using a small round brush when you blow dry your hair, and backcombing at the crown. Let your hair part naturally and pull back a section from the front and secure it with bobby pins at the nape of your neck.

Amanda Seyfried was old style Hollywood glamour in 2009 when she wore her hair in sexy long waves. Use a large one inch curling iron on dry hair, pinning the curls up until the are cool. Once your hair is cool gently brush it into long soft waves and apply a shine spray or anti-frizz product for extra gloss.

In 2008 Jessica Alba was a glowing expectant mother, but her braided chignon stole the show. This may look like a complicated style, but it is easy to recreate. Blow dry your hair with a round brush, and take two inch sections from your temples to the tops of your ears and clip them to one side. Braid random sections of your hair and twist and swirl them together to form a messy bun. Take the two pieces from the front of your hair and French braid them along your hairline, and then create normal braids on the end. Pull these back and secure them into the bun.

These are just a few of the hottest Oscar hairstyles from the past decade. If you see a style you like and want to try out, ask your stylist to help you recreate it, and recommend professional styling products to achieve the results you want. This year’s Oscars promise to be just as glamorous and exciting as past events. It will be fun to see what hairstyles the stars come up with in February.

Messy Updos are One of the Most Trendy Looks for Spring 2013 – Oklahoma City Hairstyles

There are a lot of new trends and styles coming up for Spring 2013. One of the newest ones is the messy but undone updo. This look is an easy one to obtain and gives you lots of styling options. All hair types can take advantage of this look since each hair doesn’t have to be in place. In fact, the messier the better with this trendy look. If you have short hair, you can still get this look with human hair extensions. Have your hair stylist help you pick out the right type of human hair extensions to get the look you want. Human hair extensions can be washed and styled just like your natural hair, and with the right care and professional placement will last for many weeks.

To get this fun look, gather your hair up into a messy ponytail. If you want some volume, tease your hair a bit before you gather it up, and then smooth your hair with a natural bristle brush. Now you have lots of options on how to style your updo. You can twist the hair around the base of the ponytail, or you can braid your hair and wrap it around the base. You can also raise the ponytail and have a high messy updo. Don’t forget the front either. In the picture the model has her hair in two opposing side parts secured behind her hears. You can also wear a messy updo with bangs or fringe. Another option is to have a deep side part or a middle part, and let some tendrils frame your face. Add a pretty hairband and you’ve got a chic look for a special night out.

Try a messy updo and see how this fun and easy look can be worn for special occasions or a day at the office. Get creative and have fun with your hair, after all fashion is supposed to be fun. Ask your stylist for recommendations on styling products to create this messy look and you’ll be ready for Spring 2013.

Soft Sexy Curls are One of the Hot Trends for Spring 2013 – Oklahoma City Hairstyles

Although Oklahoma City is still in the grips of winter, now is the time to start thinking about a new look for spring. There are several new trends emerging in hair and makeup and one of the sexiest looks is soft waves with a side part. This a dramatic and glamorous look for medium to long hair. It is easy to get this look in just a few steps. Megan Fox wore her hair in this style at the recent Grey Goose screening of “Friends With Kids“ at the SVA Theater in New York City. Here is how to achieve this red carpet worthy style.

After shampooing and conditioning your hair, gently towel dry it. Apply volumizing mousse to your hair, and use a large barrel brush with your blow dryer. Lift the hair at the roots with the brush and concentrate the flow of air on them as you dry your hair. This will help achieve lots of volume and give your hair a full and sexy look. Continue to dry your hair drawing the brush and the blow dryer down the hair shaft gently turning the ends under.

Once your hair is dry, apply some heat protecting product all over and set your hair in hot rollers. Let the rollers completely cool and remove them. Create a deep side part and gently brush your curls out. Spray your hair with some hairspray and you’ll be ready for a night out or a special occasion.

If you have color treated hair, be sure to use products designed specifically for your hair. They will protect your color and keep it from fading. If you need a shine boost, use a shine spray to make your hair soft and lustrous. Remember that a beautiful style starts with an expert cut from an experienced stylist. Ask your stylist for recommendations on products to keep your hair looking and feeling great. Spring maybe a few months a way, but it’s never too earlier to give some thought to a new look. Ask your stylist for ideas and any trends she knows about coming over the horizon.

How to Maintain Dreadlocks

Dreadlocks are a popular and natural way to wear your hair. Anyone can wear their hair in dreads and maintaining them is no harder than maintaining a non-dread hairstyle. If your hair is short you can still wear dreads with extensions. Your stylist can either place natural hair extensions in your hair and then form dreads, or she can form dreads first with the human hair extensions and then place the dreads in your hair. Either way will give you a natural and stunning look.

Keep Them Clean

Once you have your dreads, you’ll need to take care of them. Dreadlocks form by backcombing and twisting your hair into dreads, or locks. The hair forms locks by binding together and keeping them healthy is easy with the right techniques and products. The first thing you need to do is keep them clean. Dreads are a very clean way to wear your hair, and if you cleanse them properly will last as long as you want to wear them.

First use shampoo made for dreadlocks. Regular shampoos have too many conditioners which can make your hair slick and not lock properly. They also have ingredients which are hard to rinse out of your locks. This can cau

se product build up and an itchy scalp. Your scalp is your main focus for care. Gently massage it while you are washing your hair and try not to disturb your dreads too much. The shampoo will run into your dreads and keep them clean.

Gently rinse your scalp and hair. You can squeeze your dreads to be sure they’re rinsed properly. Use a gently touch when you’re towel drying your hair. Only squeeze your dreads, don’t rub them. Make sure your hair is completely dry before you apply any styling or conditioning products. Since your dreads are so dense, they will take a while to dry. Not letting them dry completely before applying wax or tightening gel may give them a musty smell from trapped moisture and mildew that can form.

Keep Them Tight

About six weeks after your new dreads form you will need to apply some dread wax. This protects them and helps them to stay locked. Only use a bit, you can always add more if you need to. Inspect your dreads every other day and apply wax as needed. If you find your locks are getting loose, you can apply a bit of tightening gel. Once again, a little goes a long way so use it sparingly.

Twist your dreads as often as you think of it. This strengthens the locks and helps new growth form into locks. Have your stylist check out your dreads every four to six weeks and ask her which products she recommends for their care. If you take care of your dreads, you can wear them as long as you like and look great.

Human Hair Extension Placement Methods – Which One is Right for Your Hair?

Human hair extensions are the best choice when you want to add volume and length to your hair. While synthetic hair extensions may seem like a good deal, they can not be styled like your natural hair and do not look as natural as human hair extensions. Unlike human hair extensions, you can’t use heat or change their wave pattern. If placed correctly human hair extensions look natural and people will be unable to tell you have them. Remy human hair extensions are the highest quality and most natural looking ones on the market. These are natural human hair cut from one weft to maintain the smoothness and strength of the hair.

Sewn in extensions are an economical and long lasting way to place extensions. If done by a hairstylist sewn in extensions can last for several weeks. First she will section out your hair to place the extensions. Just under where the extension will be located, she will tightly braid a horizontal line and sew the extension onto this braid. Depending on the look you want and how many extensions are needed, she will continue to do this until all of the extensions are placed. One of the biggest advantages to sewn in extensions is if taken care of properly, they can be used again. When you’re ready to take them out, your stylist carefully removes the threads and there is no damage or breakage of your natural hair.

A more permanent placement method is fusion. A stylist must be certified to use this method since if done improperly fusion can cause serious damage to your hair. A tool is used to heat the hair shaft and extension to fuse them together. New fusion tools use sound waves and no heat to accomplish the fusion process. Fused extensions will normally last until your hair grows out and they are cut off with a new style. This is the most expensive placement method and can cost several hundred dollars, but the effects are the most natural and longest lasting of all placement methods.

You stylist should give you a consultation to determine how long you want to wear your extensions, the look you want to achieve, and take into account your budget. She will then order the extensions or tell you where to purchase them. Don’t expect to walk into a reputable salon and out again with a head of high quality extensions. You’ll probably have to come back after your consultation appointment to get them placed. Professionally placed human hair extensions should be looked upon as an investment. They’re not cheap, but will give you a full head of long sexy hair for many weeks or months if done by a professional hairstylist.

K-Pop Influences in Hairstyles

K-Pop, Korean pop music, is influencing hairstyles all over the world. The Pussycat Dolls singer, Kim Wyatt, is one of the celebrities that have embraced the K-Pop style. This style is young, fresh and edgy. K-Pop style has spikes, razor cuts and lots of hair product. Female K-Pop singers also wear their hair with many long layers and spiked fringe. Recently Indonesian hairstylists gathered at the Bidakara Hotel in Jakarata to celebrate new styles which featured many hairstyles inspired by Korean pop stars. One of the newest styles previewed by Indonesian hairdresser Johnny Andrean is a medium length cut with soft layers and curls around the edges. K-Pop is a very popular music style that features young artists who have become very popular around the world. Some of the most popular bands include Super Junior, SHINee, and Girl’s Generation.

You can have the K-Pop style with the right cut and styling products. Ask your stylist for an asymmetrical razor cut if you want a style like Kim’s. On towel dried hair apply some root boost and volumizing mousse. Use a barrel brush and blow dry your hair lifting your hair to concentrate the air flow on your roots. Continue to lift the hair on the crown of your head and twist the brush to direct the hair under. Next use the brush to give the back of your hair a bit of flip on the ends. The idea is to make the style look unstructured, so don’t be too worried if your hair decides to do its own thing. After your hair is dry, put a bit of paste or wax on your hands and rub them together to activate it. Scrunch the product through your hair and use some to piece out your bangs and add definition.

If you’re looking for a new style, why not try the hairstyles of popular K-Pop bands? Ask your stylist to help you find one that is right for your hair texture and thickness. Join in the Korean style trend with an expert cut from your stylist and professional hair products.
