Miley Cyrus Hairstyles Through the Years

Miley Cyrus was once known for her long, luxurious locks. Though this look was undoubtedly flattering, Cyrus has shown fans that she can wear her hair in a number of different ways and still look stylish. In 2012, Cyrus took the plunge and cut the long, gorgeous locks that she’d been known for into a bob that’s definitely worth emulating even though she’s moved on to bolder cuts today. The bob is a versatile hair styles that’s still “in” according to the experts. If you’re a Miley Cyrus fan, this look won’t let you down. Cyrus wore her bob with a little bit of wave (or sometimes even tight curls) and added an ombre overtone to the look in 2012.

Lately, Cyrus has been shaking up the status quo by expressing herself through her hair. While a lot of celebrities are sporting pixie cuts and getting rave reviews, Miley took the shorter-than-short hair style to the next level by actually shaving part of her head. This was a shocking change for fans who knew her as the person with the girl-next-door hair style. But Cyrus has been able to leverage her locks to her advantage in the lime light. She’s definitely gotten plenty of attention for her short and shaved hair style.

A very short cut with some shaved areas of the head can look surprisingly attractive and
Cyrus has proven that the possibilities are endless. But this is not a hair style for the feint of heart. You have to wear the style like you mean it and go the full distance to make it look like it’s supposed to. It can be remarkably easy to fix and maintain a style like this. Ten minutes is all you need to allot for styling each day when your hair is short and shaved in places. You can create a casual-looking hair style by adding a little volume to the roots of the longer locks that are left on top. Add a little texture using styling products to finish off the look. Expect to return to your stylist every 4 to 6 weeks to get do maintenance on the cut.

The current short cut that Cyrus wears is low-fuss and appropriate for a variety of different face shapes. If you have a round, heart, triangular, or oval face shape, this shorter hair cut could definitely be flattering on you. Consider a hair color change in addition to the short cut to add drama to the change. The key to making this short cut look good is committing and going the full distance with it. Choose bold hair colors. Punk colors can look great with a short cut like this, but blonde, red, or black would also turn heads.

Permanent Beachy Waves without the Beach – Hair Stylist OKC

If you’ve ever noticed how great your hair looks after a day of basking in the sun at the beach, then it makes sense why you’d want to have permanent “beach hair”. Beachy waves don’t require a lot of effort or maintenance, which is what makes it so awesome for girls on the go. A Beach Wave perm can help you look your best every day without all the fuss of curling irons or salt water.

the-perfect-wave-hair-styling

You can only get a Beach Wave perm at a salon, so don’t go shopping for beach hair perming solution at the local grocery store. It’s a special formula that creates a subtle wave to your hair using special curling tools while the perm is processing. The solution is specially developed as well to create softness and a beachy “bounce”. The final result is a very soft, loose curl that’s very natural looking and easy to style. It doesn’t look at all like a traditional, tightly curled perm, but instead gives the look of natural waves.

The soft look of beach hair was the inspiration for this type of perm which makes use of soft foam blocks instead of rollers to create the loose waves that women everywhere envy. You can’t do this type of perm on your own at home, so you’ll need to talk to a stylist about how to achieve this ultra-sexy look. Obviously, you’ll need to have medium to long length hair to really get the most out of your beach style and ideally, your hair should be healthy to take advantage of this great look.

Not every stylist is qualified to give the beach wave perm, so you may need to shop around for this service. A specialized perming solution is used to get the right effect. Beachy hair perms are a relatively new development on the hair style scene so make sure you do your research before setting up an appointment for a perm at your local salon. Curls need to be set in the proper way to get the look of beach waves, otherwise you may not achieve the look you’re hoping for.

Of course, if a perm is too much of a commitment, you could always get yourself an arsenal of styling products and tools like different sized curling irons and salt water spray, but wouldn’t it be nice to get up every morning and enjoy long, loosely curled flowing locks? Though a perm may seem like something straight out of the 1980’s, the fact is, today’s chemical solutions are much kinder to hair and produce much more aesthetically pleasing results.

Michelle Obama Disses Bangs, But You Don’t Have To – OKC Hair Stylist

What Michelle Obama had to say about bangs is no lie. They can be a little irritating at times, but the attention that she got from her husband for her fringes tells the tale. Apparently, he loved her fresh look. Despite the fact that bangs take some maintenance time and represent a bit of a commitment, they’re definitely in this fall. And what’s best is that you can get the look of bangs this year without having to cut your hair. Side swept bangs are all the rage this coming autumn. Now you can have a brand new face framing look without having to deal with regrowth later on.

You may need a few bobby pins to get the look just right, but by pinning your hair to the side so that it sweeps across the forehead, you can get the appearance of bangs without all the fuss. Of course, you do need to have a hair cut that will support a creative approach to producing bangs, but you can talk to your stylist if you want to do your hair this way from time to time. Side swept bangs pinned into place are going to be quite popular this fall.

If the side swept look simply doesn’t suit you, you could go ahead and get bangs cut or you could use some of the new hair technologies that are out there to get the same look without having to commit. Faux bangs that can be pinned into place are becoming much more user friendly. Women today can visit their stylist and order faux bangs that will match their own natural hair perfectly. This is a great compromise for women who like to move with the trends but don’t want to worry about regrowth and that awkward transition period when bangs just get in the way.

For women who have decided to just go for it and deal with their own real bangs rather than attempting to fake it, there are ways to lessen to difficulties of regrowing the bangs to the length of the rest of the hair. Talk with your stylist about getting your bangs cut in a way that will ease the regrowing period and make it less awkward. Come up with a plan for how to regrow your hair into a style that will be easy for you to deal with and still sexy and appealing. Thinking ahead about transitioning out of a look that includes bangs can definitely make a difference when you’re ready to move on to a new style. Bangs don’t have to be “irritating” if you use the right tools and come up with a plan of action in advance for growing them out to a new length.

Hair Cuts for Thinning Hair – Oklahoma City Salon

Thin hair is a big problem for a lot of women. It’s a problem that is best dealt with head-on with a flattering hair cut that will bring out the most in every single strand of hair you’ve got. Making the hair look thicker is tricky business, but if you don’t deny that you have a problem but instead try to bring out the best in your locks, you’ll be able to cope with your losses better. Of course, if you hair is thinning or falling out, it’s important that you see a doctor to find out if there’s a problem that needs to be addressed. If your thin hair is just a part of your life though and not indicative of deeper health issues, then you need to make a visit to a talented stylist rather than a health professional. Even thin hair can look sexy with the right hair cut!

Stop Hair Loss At Its Tracks With These 5 Prac...
Stop Hair Loss At Its Tracks With These 5 Practical Tips – Refrain From Using Chemicals On Your Hair As Much As Possible (Photo credit: UrbaneWomenMag)

Before you head to the salon to get your hair cut, think about how much time you’re willing to devote to your hair every day. Some hair styles for thinning hair require more daily maintenance to reap their benefits than others. If you’re not interested in spending a lot of time preening, you need to let your stylist know. On the other hand, if you’re willing to spend time styling your hair each day, other hair cut options might be worthy of your attention.

Adding curl to the hair can make it look more voluminous. A hair cut that includes few or no layers is best with the length falling just past the shoulders can give the look of fullness and bounce if that’s what you’re after. A few dedicated moments with some curlers or a curling iron can help you get the look of volume back in your hair. Part it at the side for a more modern appearance that you’ll definitely love.

If shoulder-length hair just isn’t your thing, consider going with a bob. A cut with blunt ends can help your hair look thicker. Once again, it’s best to leave out the layers if you’re trying to make your hair look thicker. Side bangs, however, are not off-limits and in fact, some face framing hair can add interest, style, and a nice shape to a bob cut. If you’re wanting something that won’t require a lot of time to style each day, the bob may be a good option for you. Part the hair on the side to add interest to the do. Use a curling iron or straightening iron and some salon-grade styling products to make your hair look shiny. By heat styling your hair in this way and using the right hair care products, your hair will look smooth and healthy.

Is it really necessary go the full distance and wear a dramatic updo for a big event? Women with long, thin hair may actually be better off leaving their hair down for a more elegant and natural look. Long hair, whether thin or thick be done up in a wide variety of ways for special occasions with just a short trip to the salon. The 1980’s have inspired all kinds of fashion trends as well as hair styles that have been renovated for a more modern age. For example, side braids have made a big comeback and women with long hair can make the most of this style with a little help from their stylist. Though not the easiest to do if you’re working alone, side braids are relatively quick and simple if you go to a salon. Get a loose or messy braid or one that is styled more tightly, depending on the event and what you plan to wear. Side braids come in several different varieties and they can be done in several different directions on your head to get the most flattering look.

Another option for women with long, thin hair is the bun. Everyone knows what a bun is, but these days, many women are wearing them down lower at the nape of the neck. Done properly, a bun can make your hair look full and elegant. With the help of a stylist, you can hit the town with a bun that looks sophisticated and fashionable.

And then there’s the hair pouf, which is a style that’s definitely unique and eye-catching. Backcombing and bobby pins are necessary to get the look right along with super-strong hair spray. Your stylist can help you get the look right without leaving bobby pins exposed or hairs out of place. A bump hairpiece can help add volume to the topmost part of the head. The extra lift can help make this style attention-grabbing and give your thin hair the look of more volume and thickness.

Rather than all up or all down, a half-up, half-down hairstyle for long, thin hair can be quite appealing. Using special salon-grade products, your stylist will be able to create a look of volume to your hair and perhaps a few waves. A few tendrils around the face can add to the femininity of this look.

Even though your hair is thin, you can still maximize the effects of a special occasion do if you have long tresses. Visit your stylist to learn more about how your long hair can be done up (or down) into styles that will complement your outfit and look appropriate at the big event.

Great Medium-Length Hairstyles for Weddings

Whether you’re the bride-to-be or a supportive brides’ maid, if you have medium-length hair, you’ve got lots of hair style options to choose from that will complement your attire. Medium length locks are surprisingly versatile when it comes to special occasions, but you may want to pay a visit to the salon to the get the perfect special-occasion look that will last and last throughout the entire day and into the night. No matter whether your hair is straight or curly, there’s an updo for you that will top off your overall look for some unforgettable photos and great times!

Most women mistakenly believe that long hair is the best length for special occasions, but, in fact, medium length hair can be styled using special tools that will make it look longer and more voluminous than it really is with less weight and less hassle than long hair. And, of course, there are permanent or temporary hair extensions that can create surprising effects in medium-length hair. You stylist can help you put together a very formal and yet trendy look you’ll never forget.

Side sweeps are particularly popular with women these days who have a special event like a wedding their future. Using some bobby pins, heavy-duty hairspray, and a little bit of finesse, your stylist can put together something elegant and yet very hip that will last all day and into the night. Side sweeps are best done on straight or curly medium-length hair because hair that’s too long can make this style heavy and hard to manage.

Depending on the length or your hair, a low bun may be a possibility too. Even if your hair isn’t quite long enough for a full bun, a hair piece may be able to give the illusion of long hair, which can be a fun, attention-getting change. A high bun, or upswept hair on the top of the head is also a possibility to create a regal appearance for that special day. Once again, your stylist may have some tricks up his or her sleeve to give the illusion of longer, fuller hair for a day.

If you have curly locks, you may be able to get away with an upsweep or low bun as well, but a French pleat or retro appearance may also be appealing for the big day. A lot of celebrities today wear curly hair pinned up using retro metallic or diamond –studded clips to create a believable flapper-look that brings out the femininity in any woman. Getting retro hairstyles just right takes some technique and it’s definitely best to go to a salon for help if you want it to look just right. Curly hair can be put to good use using this style, however.

Formal But Not Too Formal Hair Styles for a Semi-Formal Event – Oklahoma City Salon

It can be remarkably humiliating to choose the wrong hair style for a formal or semi-formal event, which is why many women go to the salon to make sure they get it right. Going too casual with your hair can dress down a very respectable evening gown. Hair that’s too formal can make you look a little foolish too. Figuring out the right balance for your hair at a formal or semi-formal event can make or break your overall appearance, but don’t worry, there are styles that can make you look elegant and yet not overdone at any event. Rather than take your chances, go to the salon to get hair that will last through the duration of your semi-formal or formal bash.

A good way to keep your hair within safe boundaries at an event that requires special attention for your hair is to pull some of the hair up and leave the rest of it down. A few elegant tendrils can help give your hair a very balanced formal, yet relaxed look. But don’t overdo it. Discuss the event with your stylist to come up with a do that will keep this balanced formal-but-balanced appeal.

Braids have made a come-back recently in a big way. There are a variety of different types of braids that can give your hair a slightly different textural finish. Not only are braids done at the back of the head, but the trend is for the hair to be braided in innovative ways. For example,, a braid can be done that looks like a headband sitting just above the hairline. The front half of the hair can also be braided around to the back of the head in an attractive sweeping line that is both sophisticated and yet fun.

For something simpler and yet just as eye-catching, a half-French twist can satisfy your need for something formal and yet not too formal. Shoulder-length hair is perfect for this do because it isn’t too heavy after the style has been fastened in place. Leaving some of the hair flowing free to keep the half-French twist from over-doing it on the big day. The hair that’s left out of the twist can be styled in any number of different ways. Your stylist could curl it or crimp it, or straighten it depending on your tastes.

And finally, if braids or French twists don’t interest you, then you might want to go retro with pinned curls or do something more playful like a spiked bun. Both of these looks can take some finesse to pull off so don’t be shy about having your stylist make them happen before the big bash. Elegantly pinned curls bring out the best in any woman. Spiky buns, in contrast, are just plain fun and flirty. Both are perfect for medium-length locks and if you have them done by your stylist, should fulfill the need for something semi-formal.

Finding the Right Hair Cut for an Oval-Shaped Face – Oklahoma City Hair Salon

While the right hair cut for your face shape can do wonders for your look, the wrong hair cut can serious detract from your image. That’s why it’s so important to consider the shape of your face when you decide how you’re going to get your hair done. Of course, there are other considerations that you’ll have to take into account as well. The texture of your hair, its length, and how much time you’re willing to invest in fixing it each day can also factor into your decision. But finding the right hair cut for your face shape is a good place to start if you’re looking for a new look. You can start by taking a look at Jennifer Aniston’s hair, if you want to see a celebrity with an oval face shape who wears her hair well.

The oval face shape is one of the most versatile in terms of hair. It looks good with a lot of different styles. However, there are still some hair cuts that can have an elongating effect on an oval face shape. You definitely want to avoid these. Instead, stick with styles that complement your facial features. Though most hair styles are going to look pretty good on your oval face shape, the question is, which ones are the best?

It doesn’t really matter whether you have long hair or a shorter style, you’ll still want your hair to be cut with layers that linger near the chin, lips, or cheekbones. Aim to cut that topmost layer to land in the vicinity of a facial feature you’d really like to highlight. If you have great cheeks, make sure one of your layers is cut cheek length. If you love your lips, then that layer should be lip-length and so on and so forth.

Another thing to consider, regardless of the length of your hair is whether or not a hair cut is going to “weigh the face down”. Essentially, if you have super long hair that drops straight down on either side of your oval-shaped face, the eye will be drawn downward. That means that your face is going to appear to be longer than it really is, which can be unattractive. By cutting layers into your hair to break up those lines on either side of your face, you’ll get a more attractive finish. It may even be wise to cut the hair so that it’s longer in the back than in the front. Slightly shorter hair up front can help make your face look younger and less tired.

As you search for the perfect hair cut for your oval face, make sure that you avoid dated hairstyles. Dated styles can make you look old-ish. And be sure that you work with your hair texture, not against it. Curly hair and thin hair requires a different approach.

Hair for Squares – Oklahoma City Hair Stylist

If you have a square face shape then you may struggle sometimes with finding the right hair cut or style to flatter it. The angular features of a square face can be quite attractive when paired with a hair cut and style that flatters those features. On the other hand, if you style your hair without regard for your face shape, you may not be getting the effect you’re really after. Use your mane to create an attractive appearance with a square face shape. It’s not as difficult as you might think, once you get the basic principles under your thumb.

English: Miley Cyrus at the premiere for Hannah Montana: The Movie. (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

Even gorgeous celebrities take pause to think about their face shape before they cut their hair. Miley Cyrus, Lily Adridge, and Jessica Biel have all used their hair to make the most of their face shape. Though you’ll need to consider the length of your hair, the texture, and the amount of time you’re willing to spend on your do each day as well as your face shape, taking your cues from some square-faced celebrities can create outcomes that you can be happy about.

If you want a longer length to your hair, then you might consider creating layers that gradually get longer and longer. Situate that first layer at about the chin area. This will help to offset the strong, angular jawline that characterizes the square-shaped face. Make sure that your layers turn in toward your face as well. Layers that curl inward will help move the eye toward the center of the face to make it look less wide. In contrast, layers that flip outward from the head will broaden a square shaped face. This can make even a thin square-shaped face look chubby.

If you’re after super short hair, make sure that you get a do that’s going to create length in your face. Miley Cyrus has gotten a lot of press for her pixie cut which creates extra height on top of her head. That extra height has given her face the illusion of being longer, which is flattering. Extremely short hair like this can make a bold statement, but on a square-face it can be quite attractive.

And finally, if you have a square face consider bangs when you go to get your next hair cut. A rounded fringe cut can help to create a frame around the outer edges of the face, which draws the eye inward. The bangs should be rounded with the outer edges just slightly longer than the center by about an inch to an inch and a half. By rounding out the bangs, you’ll softer the angular features of the face considerably. The rounded fringe has a decidedly slimming effect on the face.

The Ideal 40-Something Hair Cut

As the years go by, the hair styles that flatter us change. Women who hope to move with the times and yet capture a style that will flatter them as individuals must heed certain hair-related creeds in order to look their best. There is no “perfect” hair cut for a 40-something woman, but rather many that will flatter a middle-aged face. There are however, hair styles that are definitely a no-no, for women who are hoping to keep their youthfulness intact for as long as possible

Most women who are at or near 40 or in their forties are hoping to use their hair to turn back the clock or at least look their age (and not older). That means that long hair cut to all one length might be a bad idea. Though it isn’t entirely against the rules for middle-aged women to sport longer locks, it’s important for the hair to be layered in such a way as to flatter the face. Long hair that is all one length can drag the face down, making it look longer and tired (and therefore older). But long hair that’s been appropriately layered can provide the appearance of playfulness and vitality. Long hair, after all, is sexy, even on women in their 40’s, but keeping those layers trimmed can keep those locks from looking drab and unkempt.

In some cases, it may be wise to go with a cut of mid-length rather than try to work with long hair and layers. A strategically shaped hair style that has been cut to frame the face creates a softening effect that tones down the look of wrinkles and the beginning signs of aging. A hair cut of about shoulder length offers women a lot of options in terms of hair styles that they can wear and the look is sexy as well as sophisticated. Shoulder length hair with some layers to bring out a woman’s best features is a cut that can flatter any woman no matter what texture of hair she has or the shape of her face.

If you really love your current hair style and you don’t want a radical change, you can seek out a hair stylist who knows a thing or two about working with your personal bone structure, the texture of your hair, and how much time you’re willing to spend styling your hair each day. A knowledgeable stylist will be able to recommend updates on your current style that will help you maintain your youthfulness without going too far out on a limb. A slight change can make all the difference in the world to women over 40 who want to continue looking young for many years to come.

5 Summer Hair Care Tips

Summer can be hard on your hair with humidity, sun, and heat. Exposing your hair to the elements is an everyday fact of life in the summer, but there are some easy tips you can use to keep your tresses looking and feeling healthy, shiny, and strong. One of the things your hair needs in the summer is extra moisture. A leave in conditioner is a quick way to protect your hair and keep the humidity from making your hair turn into a frizzy mess. Argan oil is the perfect conditioner. It absorbs into your hair without leaving it greasy.

Another way to keep the frizz under control is to wear your hair in braids on especially humid days. Braids give you a chance to show off your creativity, and there are several styles to choose from. You can pull the front of your hair back and form two braids to hold your hair back in a half updo, or braid the entire front of your hair and pull it back into a pretty ponytail. Another option is a fishtail braid either down the center of your back, or off to one side. Fishtail braids are formed by dividing your hair into two sections, and then bringing small sections from each side over the main sections. Fishtail braids have been seen this summer on runways and red carpets.

Nothing is more classic than a pretty headscarf. Think of the Hollywood starlets of the 1950’s and how they wore their headscarves wrapped under their chins and then around their neck for a sexy and cool look. Think of Audrey Hepburn riding in her car with the top down and you’ll get the picture. Even Queen Elizabeth knows the value of a headscarf for keeping her hair protected and under control. A great place to find headscarves is in a vintage or thrift store.

If the weather looks dicey and you have to head out, why not try one of this summer’s hottest looks? A slicked back ponytail keeps your hair under control, and if you get caught in the rain it won’t mess up your look. Use a gel on wet hair and comb it back into a sleek ponytail. You can add a pretty hair tie or clip for a pop of color.

These are just a few ideas to help keep you looking and feeling cool during the hot months of summer. Humidity, sun exposure and wind can combine to make your hair look and feel dry and brittle. Remember to condition your hair and protect it with a scarf or hat when you’ll be outside, and you’ll be rewarded with beautiful hair all summer long.
