Pixie cut

Creative Take on the Pixie Cut – Oklahoma City Hairdresser

Choosing a hair cut isn’t as straightforward as you might think. Take the pixie cut, for example. Though you might really love the look, you’re likely to hesitate when it comes to cutting your own hair into a pixie cut because it seems too risky. There are lots of decisions that we make every day that hinge on the idea of risks and potential benefits. Getting your hair cut into a pixie can be daunting because the potential risks versus the potential benefits may not seem to add up. But the pixie cut has a lot more to offer than what a lot of women realize.

Bangs of hair
Bangs of hair (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

The pixie cut is definitely not the “safe” way to go in terms of hair styles, but that doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t just go for it anyway. The pixie cut is such an easy style to work with and depending on the way the hair is cut, it can be remarkably versatile to fix. As risky as this style seems, there are a variety of ways that the cut can be done to flatter a woman’s face. Your stylist can cut bangs to frame your face, for example, or not. Depending on your face shape, your stylist can cut layers into the do. These layers can be tailored to specifically accentuate your best features.

Emma Watson took a chance on a pixie cut with great success. Her short cut isn’t a traditional pixie cut though. The hair at the top of the head and on the sides is longer than most pixie cuts so that she can style the cut in different ways. She can slick the hair back and tuck it behind her ears or pull out the long hair on top to create bangs that are cut to accentuate her eyes and her cheekbones. Watson’s cut is a combination between a pixie and a bob. It’s an easy cut to fix each day with plenty of options for different styles.

A pixie cut can be specifically designed to add volume where it is needed and to focus attention on a woman’s most attractive features. The cut can help to balance out the shape of the face as well. For example, a pixie can be cut to add height to a heart shaped face. This will elongate the appearance of the face. At the same time the sides can be kept flat to further enhance the effect. Bangs can be added to the do to help highlight the eyes or the cheekbones or make the forehead seem less wide.

Discuss your options with your stylist, but don’t give up on the idea of a pixie cut just because it seems too risky. This do isn’t as risky as it seems in the right hands. For best results, find a stylist who knows what he or she is doing when it comes to short pixie cuts.

Celebrity Hair Styles That Changed the World

We may hate to admit it, but celebrities have a big influence on the way we wear our hair. Let’s face it, it’s easy to imagine ourselves in hair styles that we see on the big screen (or the small screen for that matter). A great celebrity hair cut can make a previously unpopular (or only somewhat popular) do into the latest and greatest trend. That’s what happened recently when Anne Hathaway got an attractive pixie cut for her role in Les Miserables. Women everywhere sat up and took notice and decided to give a pixie cut a try.

Anne Hathaway

Not all hair styles that hit the big screen are able to wow women enough that they actually go the salon and ask for the same look. It’s hard to say whether it’s the celebrity herself or the hair that makes the big impression on women. Jennifer Aniston’s hair has always garnered a lot of attention and followers. Her newsworthy locks have been mimicked by women throughout the United States. And Audrey Hepburn hair in Charade has always been worthy of disciples. Something about it makes other women want to go bold and do it too.

Edgy hair cuts, though attention-getting don’t necessarily get women to follow suit. Rather, hair cuts that are remarkably flattering on the celebrity and able to resonate with the times seem to be the ones that women tend to desire the most. Sometimes, the trends hit the celebrity circuit first. The pixie cut is actually a great example of this. Miley Cyrus and Maggie Gyllenhaal both sport the low-maintenance hair style as well as Ginnifer Goodwin. Anne Hathaway ended up with the popular pixie cut after her Les Miserables role required her to wear a bowl-cut. She needed a graceful way to transition out of this hair style. Who knew that women everywhere would envy the new cut.

It can be frightening to go ahead and chop the hair short and hope for the best, but more and more women are opting for these styles that require little maintenance. If you talk with your stylist, you could get a pixie cut that will grow out with little or no discomfort and even enjoy the various transitions from super-short to medium-length hair and beyond. Coming up with a transitioning plan may be enough to give you the courage to go for it. After all, hair does grow back in time. A pixie cut is bold and eye-catching, but strangely attractive. It can give women the opportunity to grow through various lengths and looks rather than wearing the same old style for eons. Michelle Williams is currently growing out her super-short hair proving to women everywhere that it can be done.

Winter 2013-2014 Hairstyle Trends – Edmond OK Hair Salons

This winter, the real question has to do with how to part the hair. There’s plenty of diversity in terms of the length of hair, wavy versus straight hair, and the color choices available to runway models, but in all cases, the part seems to feature in heavily. It’s important to be attentive about how your hair falls this season and though there are some punked out colors and super short styles, by and large, the look is somewhat tousled and natural.

Peyton's hair and wardrobe evolution: Typical ...
Peyton’s hair and wardrobe evolution: Typical seasons 1 and 2 curly hair and vintage clothing styles (bottom left), Season 3 shorter hair style (top left), Season 5 sexier dress style (top right), and Season 6 straight hair style (bottom right). (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

If you have short hair, there are plenty of things you can do with it this season. Pull it back from the face, or leave it wind-swept with dramatic bangs over the eyes. But make sure that you have the right cut for the season. The pixie cut is still in as well as the bob and there are plenty of other short hair styles that have made the grade as well, but steer clear of perms if you have ultra-short hair or even medium length-hair. Kinky curls aren’t really in this season.

Medium length and longer hair styles are still all the rage, particularly if you hair has just a slight wave to it and works well in styles with plenty of tendrils hanging loose. Ideally, these tendrils will be straight or nearly straight. A little bit of wave is okay as long as it look natural and unintentional. If you have particularly curly hair or dramatic waves, you may want to consider getting out the straightening tool or visiting a stylist to get your hair permanently straightened to stay on top of this season’s trends.

You can part your hair on center or over to the side, but make sure that you either use plenty of gel to tame all those fly-away strands, or leave them intentionally loose so that they can create some drama around your face. This fall we saw the heavy contrast between super-pristine hair with plenty of gel to keep it in place versus the natural look of loose hair that appears to have been out in a heavy breeze all day. This winter, this style continues to make an impression on the runway which is perfect for winter hat season when hair tends to look a little disheveled anyway.

Though parted hair is definitely what’s “in” this season, you can still comb the hair back so that it doesn’t have a part, if you must, but this is considerably less popular for winter 2013-2014. However, if this style suits your face more, it’s still entirely acceptable. Visit your hair stylist to get a cut that will support a side or center part if you want to stay current with the trends.

Back-to-School Hair Cuts for Young Girls – Oklahoma City Hair Color

You can’t go wrong with long hair on a little girl as far as cuteness goes, but let’s face it: it just isn’t always possible to spend time fixing it in the morning. Moms who are realistic tend to opt for shorter hairstyles for their children; some mornings, it’s a struggle to get their daughters to stand still for long.  There’s nothing wrong with opting for shorter hair on children. This year, short hair is very “in”, even for grown women, and there’s no reason why young girls can look their best with hair of a manageable length.

Of course, for moms who have time to spare in the wee hours of the morning to fix their daughter’s hair, longer locks have lots of versatility. You can braid it, twist it into a bun, or pull it back into a pony tail and never worry that your daughter will be mistaken for a boy. Shorter hair is really the same, but there are tricks that you can use to give your daughter a distinctly feminine appearance even though her tresses are short or medium length. Start by getting a girlish cut of the desired length. Then, hit the department stores in search of girly accessories to spice up her style quickly and easily in the morning.

Lots of little girls look really great in a bob cut. The look is cute, has some versatility (you can style it different ways) and it is really easy to fix with a few barrets or even a rubber band. You can opt for a short bob or a medium length bob depending on your daughters taste, but in either case, it should be relatively easy to style it each day. Talk with your stylist about whether bangs would be a good choice for your daughter or not. Sometimes, bangs can make the whole process of fixing the hair more difficult. However, your daughter may have a much more flattering look with some bangs. If this is the case, you might want to consider going ahead with a cut that includes them.

A pixie cut on a young girl isn’t necessarily the best choice just because little girls and little boys can look a lot alike before they hit puberty. However, it is possible to spruce up a pixie cut with some feminine clippies and accessories that the other girls will envy. If you’re considering cutting your daughter’s hair super-short, you might want to talk to your stylist before going through with it and get her honest opinion on how it will look. A little bit of length can go a long way toward adding a touch of femininity to a young girl’s hair style.

From Short to Long: Transitional Hairstyles

There are so many short hair cuts to choose from, but sooner or later, short gets boring. Lots of women turn to longer do’s when their short hair isn’t doing it for them anymore. But not all short hairstyles grow out well. In fact, most short hair cuts are hard to nurture into long flowing hair. Those awkward eras between short and long when your hair literally won’t do anything that you want it to are hard to avoid, but there is hope. If you’re wanting to transition from super short into a longer hair do, you simply need to choose the right short hair cut that will grow out well to make the change as fun and as easy as you can.

Short Hair - Side
Short Hair – Side (Photo credit: JPH – Juleskills)

First of all, if you have a “boy cut” and you want long hair you’re going to have to visit your salon regularly to keep things moving along in the right direction. The hair on the back of your head will need to be cut so that it’s the same length as the hair on the front of the head. Otherwise, you might end up with a mullet-phase that could be hard to live down. Instead, slowly transition your boy cut into a do that has the covering hair cut to all the same length from front to back.

Lots of women opt to get a pixie hair cut when they decide to grow out their hair from long to short. This do can slowly evolved into stepped haircut which generally looks good at any length. Though you may have a week or two here or there where your hair is in that in-between phase, the pixie cut is a great place to start, the transitional stages are totally tolerable, and you should get a thrill out of the changes that happen naturally as your hair is growing. Don’t be afraid to visit the salon every now and then to get a trim and make the look more amenable if your hair needs it though.

A bob may also be a good starting block for transitioning to long hair. You’ll need to go see your stylist to thin out the bottom ends of your hair on a regular basis so that you don’t end up with some weird flips and poofs at the ear. It’s important to have your stylist help you do the thinning. If the hair is thinned too much, the results can be even more awkward in the grow-out phase than when you started. A regular visit to your salon while your transitioning can make a big difference between hating your hair while it grows out or enjoying the various lengths that it goes through as it gets longer.

If all else fails, you could also try hair extensions to get a jump start on a longer look. Extension can definitely make transitioning easier and the abrupt change from short to long can be fun. Talk to your stylist to decide which option is right for you.

Cross over to the short side – Oklahoma City Hair Stylist

The ultimate rebel of what’s cool with hair at the moment, Rihanna at the MTV Video Music awards, was rocking an androgynous black pixie cut. Whether you emulate Rihanna’s dark pixie or a boy meets girl crop, there is a similar cut and colour for your face type and hair texture this fall.

If you’re no stranger to a drastic haircut, you’ll love this pixie cut, it brings out big eyes, high cheekbones and a long neckline. Take the plunge and chop off your locks, but before you do think about what pixie style will suit your face.

Any shaped face can pull off a pixie cut, especially if you’re petite or have amazing bone structure. Girls with an oval face can look great with any pixie; however tell your hairdresser a pixie with a short fringe and lots of volume.

For all you heart shaped faces, keep the pieces around the curved heart part of your face short to maintain balance.

Ladies with round shaped faces – you need to keep the sides shorter and the top longer. For the longer faces, keep the top short and the sides longer. As with any haircut you’ll need to get it trimmed every 4-6 weeks, letting it grow, even a little will make a pixie cut look messy. For the best looks in colour stick to one block colour, this will make it really pop.

Having a pixie cut says you’re bold, sassy and versatile; you can have a different look daily. There’s not one super product to style short hair, there are many. Try using a product that creates a soft style with movement and not ‘I just got out of the shower look’. If you’re wanting ‘stand up power’ for spiky hair, look for a gel. Put a little on your fingertips and rub it together to heat it up then grab your pieces from the top and coat them with the gel on your fingertips.

There is no wrong way to do up a properly cut pixie.

Try a styling wax, spray or solid. The spray can be used to give volume to the roots while the solid can be used like a gel to give a spiky style. Smoothing cream will give your hair the sleek look. Put the cream in while hair is damp then run it through and style as usual.

The pixie cut is timeless, think a young Mia Farrow or Twiggy, they make you look younger and frankly more intelligent, and obviously you spend less time in the bathroom.

This Season’s Hot Style is a Blonde Pixie Cut – Oklahoma City Hairstylist

Not long ago Miley Cyrus tweeted pictures her new short blonde pixie cut. It would seem she started a bit of a trend. Last Tuesday Elisabeth Moss showed off her new blonde pixie cut at the premier of For a Good Time, Call in NYC. This is a very attractive style and can be worn by almost all women. It looks best on women with delicate features, but your stylist can tailor a pixie look for your facial shape and hair texture. While blonde seems to be the preferred color of the season, many other colors are still very popular. Red, chocolate brunettes, and even pastels are very chic.

The key to getting a good pixie cut is to find a stylist who can work with your hair’s natural texture and thickness. Cutting very thick and wavy hair is much different than working with very straight or thin hair. Your stylist should be versed in all types of hair texture and thickness to give you a pixie that will work with your natural hair and not against it. Using the right styling products will also make a world of difference. If you have thick wavy or curly hair, use some gel to keep everything under control and prevent frizz. On the other hand if you have thin or very straight hair, a bit of styling paste will add volume and movement to your hair.

Just because your hair is short doesn’t mean your styling options are limited. You can wear your pixie straight and combed down flat, with some texture, curls, or waves, or if you’re daring spike it up with super hold paste or gel. Add a pretty bow, barrette, or clip for a pretty look. Since a pixie is a short cut it is important to make sure your scalp is healthy. This will give you shiny and healthy looking hair. Use moisturizing products and avoid any styling products which contain alcohol since they will dry out your scalp and your hair. Avoid product build up by using a clarifying shampoo at least twice a month, more often if you use a lot of product. These products remove any left over build up that can make your hair lay flat and look dull. Ask your stylist to give you a short pixie this season, and join in this very pretty and feminine trend.

A Pixie is the Ultimate Summer Hairstyle – Oklahoma City Hairstylist

Since summer is right around the corner in Oklahoma City, you may be looking for ways to keep cool. One way is to consider a new hairstyle. The pixie has been a favorite style for many years, and today’s celebrities are wearing it as an alternative to more fussier styles. The great thing about a pixie is the ease of styling. You can wash and go, or take a bit more time to add waves and curls. The pixie looks best with delicate features, but your stylist can tailor one to flatter your face shape.

Pixies range from very short and cropped, to longer with waves and curls. This style is an excellent choice for almost every hair type except very curly hair (which has a tendency to bunch up when cut very short). You also have many choices as far as styling your pixie. You can wear it slicked back, parted to one side, with or without fringe, and add some styling paste or gel to spike it up or a messy bedhead look. The choice is up to you and since it only takes a few minutes to style a pixie, you can wear it a different way each day.

For her role in Les Misérables, Anne Hathway had her hair cut in a pixie. Anne’s pixie is very short and looks to be cut with a razor. Razor cuts give the hair a fringed layered look which will help to bring out your hair’s natural waves. If you don’t want to go as short as Anne has, ask your stylist to keep the crown longer to give you more styling options. Traditional pixies have the ears uncovered, but this is also a place your stylist can personalize your cut. If you don’t want your ears to show, ask her to keep them covered. The options are as varied as your tastes. If you want to stay cool this summer, why not consider one of the hottest hairstyles today?

Short Hairstyles are Hot for 2012 – Oklahoma City Hair Salon

One of the hottest trends for 2012 is short hair. There are lots of options if you want to wear your hair short. Short hair really accentuates your features and can be very feminine. Layered styles work best for short styles since it brings out the natural wave of your hair, and the layers add movement and depth. With gel and paste you can add lift and definition to your style, or use a smoothing serum for a sleek look. A great cut is essential for short hairstyles, so be sure to keep up with your trims at least every six weeks to keep your cut in shape.

Use a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner system to keep your hair in its best shape. Treat yourself to a deep conditioning treatment once a month at the salon to rebuild and renew your hair. Deep conditioning treatments also help to keep your scalp from getting dry and flaky during the winter. Ask your stylist about adding a gloss treatment to give your hair lots of shine and revamp your hair color. Gloss will also protect your hair and keep it from becoming damaged or frizzy.

The bowl cut is a lovely hairstyle with lots of options. You can wear it with the sides close cropped, long side fringe, or blunt bangs. The textured pixie is a fun style you can wear to work or for a special event. This cut is great to get the illusion of thickness in thin hair. Add some root lifter, styling paste and ruff up your hair for a current look.

There are many choices for short hair, ask your stylist for ideas if you’re considering going short for 2012. Why not try a different color to really switch up your looks? Vibrant orange and copper reds are hot right now as well as deep rich brunettes. Pale blondes are also very trendy right now. Add some small highlights weaved into your color and you’ll be on spot for 2012.

The Pixie Voted #1 Haircut of 2011 – Oklahoma City Hairstylist

Emma Watson’s pixie cut was voted the number one cut by the Wall Street Journal’s Fashion Highlights of 2011. Emma’s pixie even out ranked Jennifer Aniston’s new bob for searches on Google last year. According to the Daily Glow, Emma’s pixie was cited by the Wall Street Journal as a major shift in women’s hairstyles. While that may be a bit of a steep statement, no one can deny the pixie has taken the American hairstyle scene by storm.

Short Haircut Styles Info

The pixie has been a popular style since the early 50’s when Audrey Hepburn wore one with short fringe. Many young girls wore their hair in pixies in the 60’s and it remains a very chic style suitable for women of all ages. The pixie is not for the fainthearted, it takes some spunk and confidence to wear your hair this short, but if you’re brave enough you’ll find this one of the easiest ways to wear your hair. This style has many variations, you can wear it with or without fringe, parted in the middle or to the side, and straight, wavy or curly. A pixie works for almost any type of texture and thickness.

Your stylist can razor cut your hair if it is thick and wavy, or point cut the top to give you more texture and the illusion of thickness. Like all styles, the right products can help to produce the desired results. For a wash and go look massage in a small bit of gel to keep frizz under control. For a pieced out look use styling paste to spike up your pixie. If you want a smooth look use some leave in conditioner to keep everything sleek and smooth.

Ask your stylist which type of pixie is best for your face shape and lifestyle. She can help you be creative and get the pixie that looks the best on you.

4 Great Hairstyles For Short Hair – Oklahoma City

Long hair looks great but often times it’s too much of a hassle as one has to spend time on styling long hair before going anywhere. Short hair is easy to style and maintain and nowadays a lot of people prefer short hair as opposed to long hair. Since many celebrities have now started cropping their hair, short hair styles are very much in style and will remain in fashion for some time to come. Short hair can be very stylish and chic and if you try some the short hairstyles that are popular this year, you will definitely turn some heads.

Pixie hairstyles:

shorthaircutswomen.com

Pixie look is currently the most popular hairstyle and has been chose y many celebrities as well. One of the best things about pixie haircut is that it is easy to cut so your stylist won’t be charging you a lot of money for it. Moreover it is easy to maintain so you won’t have to worry about creating an elaborate hairstyle whenever you have to somewhere. There are many variations in the pixie hairstyle so it is better to make sure that you take a photograph with you so that you get the exact same look that you want. For instance, the pixie hairstyle comes in different lengths and different kind of crowing on the head. The best way to make sure that you get the haircut you want is to show your stylist the exact same hair cut on someone else.

Waved bob:

If you are looking for a short hairstyle with some level of length, the waved bob is a trendy haircut that offers just that. The good thing about a waved bob is that it suits almost anyone regardless of the shape of your face. A waved bob is a variation of the classic bob. It has more length that the classic bob and the hair becomes curled near the end. Since you have to curl your hair, it takes more maintenance than the pixie hairstyle but as the length is not an issue, you can curl the ends in 10 minutes.

Bangs and fringes:

One great way to make short haircut sexy is by adding a lot of fringes and bangs. Bangs can make your face look softer and allow you to create different styles even with short hair. You can also add a bit of color to your bangs or get highlights in your hair, which complement short hair styles very well. Ask your hair stylist on what kind of bangs or fringes will suit you best and give you the look that you desire.

Layered styles:

Most people think that layered hairstyles are for long hair only. However, this is far from true. You can get layers in short hair and look all the more stylish. There are many layered hairstyles that only go till your neck or shoulders. If you like choppy hair, you can get a lot of layers in your short hair and sport a stylish look. Short layered hairstyle looks great with casual outfits and party wear.

Hairstyles in the News October 17, 2011

Welcome to this week’s Hairstyles in the News! This week several celebrities wore their hair long and wavy. This is a very feminine look, but if you don’t have long hair you can get this look with human hair extensions. Human hair extensions can be styled just like your natural hair and stand up to the heat of curling and flat irons.

Another popular look is the deep side part updo. The key to this look is the use of bobby pins to hold everything together. Styling products are also essential to protect your hair and keep your style looking great. One trend celebrities are really taking to is dark roots. By having their roots colored dark, they can hide any telltale gray hairs that may have sprouted up. Once a serious faux pas, dark roots are now on trend. So let’s move on to this week’s celebrity styles.

Hilary Duff began her career as a Disney sweetheart and has grown up to be a very polished and talented young woman. At a recent appearance on Good Morning America she wore her hair long with soft waves. This style is easy to obtain, simply use some styling mousse when you blow dry your hair and a large barrel curling iron. Use your fingers to tousle the waves, spritz on some holding spray and shine spray, and you’re done.

Zoe Saldana side updo at the Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic was very flattering to her facial shape and features. To get this look make a deep side part and pull a small section from the part to your ear. Pull your hair off to one side and gather it at the nape of your neck. Twist your hair loosely and secure it behind your ear with bobby pins or u-shaped pins. Use a large barrel curling iron to create soft waves to frame your face.

Gweneth Paltrow hardly has to worry about looking older. She looks great no matter how she wears her hair, and she is just one of the celebrities who have discovered the newest trend of dark roots. Instead of getting their roots touched up to match their blonde color, celebrities are now having their stylist color their roots dark. This is to give them a more youthful appearance and hide any stray gray hairs that may have made an appearance.

Audrina Patridge’s Ombre hair at the Saints Row: The Third premiere goes from a deep caramel brown to a light golden blonde. This trend has been popular for quite some time. Today you can wear it like Audrina or have the colors reversed and have the top of your hair lighter than the ends. Either way is very chic and looks great.

That’s it for this week. As the season starts to change to cooler weather, expect to see new and different styles being worn by celebrities. Keep your eyes out for new trends, and remember to ask your stylist to recommend products and styles to fit your hair texture, length and thickness.
