Is the Flat Top Still in Style – Oklahoma City Men’s Hair Stylists

Some hairstyles come and go, but the flat top maintains its popularity partly because of its practicality. Men who work for the police force or the military often prefer a cut like the flat top because it’s remarkably easy to style, it looks great, and it’s unlikely that their hair will interfere in any way with the work that they do. Although the flat top may not be all the rage, per se, it’s still an acceptable style for men who want to look good without spending a lot of time on their hair.

The flat top is a hair style that’s cut so that the hair on the top of the head gives the appearance of flatness rather than a rounded look that follows the contour of the skull. There are a number of different versions of this do. Some flat tops are taller than others, for example. The flat top can be cut so that it is wider at the edges or more narrow depending on your personal preferences. Either way, this is a hair cut that is relatively easy to style and maintain. There is very little “style” involved, in fact and men often don’t even have to comb their hair to get it to look and feel the way they want it to.

The flat top can be an extremely unobtrusive hair style, or it can be an eye-catcher depending on how it’s done. The height of the flat top has a lot to do with how eye-catching it is, but it the pragmatics of wearing your hair in this style is what really appeals to you, you might want to talk with your stylist about how to keep your hair at a manageable length. The maintenance and upkeep on a flat top can be affected by the length to some extent, but how much work is involved will depend a great deal on the texture of your hair.

Flat tops have always been popular with the ladies partly because they feel good to the touch and partly because there’s something very masculine about this hair style. Though they were very popular in the middle to late 1990’s, today, they are mostly popular among men who do physical work that makes it hard to maintain a longer cut. Make sure that you talk to your stylist about the shape and height of your flat top to make sure that your cut will flatter your face. It’s also good to have an idea of how long it will take to maintain your cut once you’ve got it. You’ll have to do some minor maintenance on it to keep it looking pristine, but this is a style that’s perfect for men who don’t have a lot of time to spare for their hair.

Winter 2013-2014 Hairstyle Trends – Edmond OK Hair Salons

This winter, the real question has to do with how to part the hair. There’s plenty of diversity in terms of the length of hair, wavy versus straight hair, and the color choices available to runway models, but in all cases, the part seems to feature in heavily. It’s important to be attentive about how your hair falls this season and though there are some punked out colors and super short styles, by and large, the look is somewhat tousled and natural.

Peyton's hair and wardrobe evolution: Typical ...
Peyton’s hair and wardrobe evolution: Typical seasons 1 and 2 curly hair and vintage clothing styles (bottom left), Season 3 shorter hair style (top left), Season 5 sexier dress style (top right), and Season 6 straight hair style (bottom right). (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

If you have short hair, there are plenty of things you can do with it this season. Pull it back from the face, or leave it wind-swept with dramatic bangs over the eyes. But make sure that you have the right cut for the season. The pixie cut is still in as well as the bob and there are plenty of other short hair styles that have made the grade as well, but steer clear of perms if you have ultra-short hair or even medium length-hair. Kinky curls aren’t really in this season.

Medium length and longer hair styles are still all the rage, particularly if you hair has just a slight wave to it and works well in styles with plenty of tendrils hanging loose. Ideally, these tendrils will be straight or nearly straight. A little bit of wave is okay as long as it look natural and unintentional. If you have particularly curly hair or dramatic waves, you may want to consider getting out the straightening tool or visiting a stylist to get your hair permanently straightened to stay on top of this season’s trends.

You can part your hair on center or over to the side, but make sure that you either use plenty of gel to tame all those fly-away strands, or leave them intentionally loose so that they can create some drama around your face. This fall we saw the heavy contrast between super-pristine hair with plenty of gel to keep it in place versus the natural look of loose hair that appears to have been out in a heavy breeze all day. This winter, this style continues to make an impression on the runway which is perfect for winter hat season when hair tends to look a little disheveled anyway.

Though parted hair is definitely what’s “in” this season, you can still comb the hair back so that it doesn’t have a part, if you must, but this is considerably less popular for winter 2013-2014. However, if this style suits your face more, it’s still entirely acceptable. Visit your hair stylist to get a cut that will support a side or center part if you want to stay current with the trends.

Messy Hairstyles for Men – Oklahoma City Men’s Haircuts

For men, the messy look can be extremely sexy, but it’s important to have the right cut to get you hair to look the way you really want it to. Messy can also look unkempt and correspondingly unattractive depending on the circumstances. If you’re looking for a hair cut that will give you plenty of versatility and allow you to wear your hair in a number of different styles included the “tousled” or “messed-up” look, continue reading. You’ll need to start first with the right hair cut in order to create a look that’s attractive and sexy.

Messed up hair looks natural and rugged on men which is part of its appeal. There are several different hair cuts that can support a messed up look and most of these cuts can also be arranged to look very clean cut as well.

Although the traditional “flop” isn’t really in right now, a floppy hair cut can provide you with a lot of flexibility in terms of style. Essentially, this cut is longer on top and shorter at the sides, but it isn’t as long as the flops that men wore in the late 80’s and early 90’s. Instead the hair is just long enough to create some texture and a tousled, wind-blown look.

Short messy hair

This season, you can wear your curls in a slightly longer style with a little bit of gel or mousse to give it a “wet” look. If you have curls, it would be best to create a look that’s soft enough for you to run your fingers through and not completely destroy the look. Your hair should never look hard to the touch if you’re trying to give it a disheveled appearance.

The bedhead look is another messed-up style for men that gives the impression that you’ve just rolled out of bed and you still look great. A proper haircut for this style would include a lot of layers and texture so that you can show off any of the waves you’ve got to your hair. After you’ve gotten the right cut, you’ll need to use the right styling products to complete the look.

And finally, one of the most popular men’s hair styles to hit the runway this season is a cut that keeps hair longer on the top and shorter in back and on the sides of the head. This trendy style is extremely versatile. It can be combed back to give a very clean and pristine appearance or it can be styled to give a messy, unkempt appearance. If that’s not enough, you can comb it forward so that the long hair creates bangs or even to the side so to create a more classic look.

That being said, if you don’t want to style your hair each day, the mullet isn’t a good choice for you. Rarely do women wake up in the morning with a mullet and feel like they look good enough to conquer the day without a shower, a hair dryer and some styling tools. The mullet does require maintenance. It isn’t the type of hair style the falls into place on its own. But, once you get the hair style into place each day, it can give you a stand-out appearance that’s singularly your own.

Joan Jett was the one who made the mullet famous and gave it an outlaw connotation among women. In contrast, Florence Henderson of the Brady Bunch wore this hair style unabashedly in a more puritanical manner. Today’s mullet can go either direction as well, although you’re more likely to see it in Emo or Scene circles than in mainstream society these days. Often, even though the hair might be cut in a mullet, it isn’t necessarily labeled as such because most people still see the mullet as a man’s hairstyle.

Feathered Hair for a Full Fledged 1980’s Look – Oklahoma City Hair Stylist

The feathered hair look came in in the 1970’s, but became widely popular in the 1980’s among both men and women. A number of 1980’s looks have become popular again recently and some women have capitalized on this look and made it their own in today’s world. Getting your hair to have the Farah Fawcett appearance isn’t easy. You need the right hair cut and the right tools to do the job, but if you succeed at creating a feathered appearance to the hair that is both whimsical and romantic, it will be undeniably sexy.

Farah Fawcett
Farah Fawcett (Photo credit: bernie.levine (new year, new beginning))

Normally, feathered hair was cut so that is was long on either side of the head. In most cases, the hair was long enough to cover the ears, although in some instances it could be as long as shoulder length. The hair was not layered, but rather brushed back at the sides using a special technique that gave it a feathery appearance like that of a bird. Feathered hair could be parted at the side or in the center to achieve a desirable look.

Today’s feathered hair styles are usually done on medium length hair which can make it more manageable. Creating a feathered appearance can take some practice and a lot of hair spray to keep the style in place. Using a curling iron, the hair is curled backward away from the face and then, after the iron is removed, the hair is brush back carefully and gently and then immediately sprayed in place with hair spray. Over-spraying the feathered locks can give the hair a sticky, heavy appearance. In contrast, under-spraying can cause the feathered hair to wilt and slowly lose shape over time.

Figuring out how long to curl the hair, the type and size of curling iron to use to achieve the look you’re after and the right hair styling products for your hair type can take some time. It takes some finesse to pull off the look without creating a mess of the final product. Talk with your stylist about getting your hair cut the right length for what you hope to achieve with your style and then ask about recommended products that will hold your hair in place without weighing the hair down too much.

Though feathered hair isn’t hot this season on the runways, it can still be your signature look. This is a unique style that will stand out amidst the crowd. Combining this look with the punked out hair colors available today could add some spice to final product. Just be prepared to spend plenty of time on your feathered hair each day. This is definitely a high-maintenance look that won’t maintain itself without a time commitment on your part.

Long hair always rules, but it can be challenging to find new hair cuts for long hair. Finding a unique way to get your hair cut when it’s long can be a real challenge, which is why some women are getting the lob, otherwise known as the “long bob”. The lob is considered to be a bold statement in some respects, but this hair cut is really quite versatile. You can wear plenty of different styles with a lob cut and still enjoy a unique look when your hair is down.

The lob is a hair cut created for women with just about any face shape. It’s usually cut just above the shoulders, which helps to keep the look from drawing the face down. The lob has an age-defying effect on women of any age and yet the cut is undeniably trendy and elegant. Celebrities such as Heidi Klum and Jessica Alba have brought the lob to the public and demonstrated just how versatile this hair style can be.

What makes the long bob so popular is that there are so many different types of lob cuts. It can be personalized to each individual and cut at different lengths to complement different face shapes or to bring out the best qualities in different hair textures. The lob can even be layered and spiced up with some bangs, hair color or highlights. In any case, you should still be able to style your hair in just about any way you like. The lob is extremely flexible. You can wear it in an elegant updo or create curls for a more sensuous look. If so inclined, you might even wear the lob as a punk look.

It doesn’t matter whether you’re a new mother, a sophisticated business woman, or a bride-to-be; the lob is flexible enough for just about any woman and this fall, the long bob is definitely coming back “in”. Talk with your stylist about hair color possibilities to bring out the best in this particular hair cut. If you’re looking for a slightly unique way to cut your longer hair so that you’ll have plenty of styling options no matter what your mood, the long bob is a good choice.

The long bob isn’t so long that the hair is too heavy to style, but it isn’t so short that your options will be limited either. Whether you choose to go with layers or not, you can do so much with this hair cut, you may never want to get a new style. Discuss the various options that you have available to put together a truly unique look that’s yours and yours alone using the lob as a basic template to get your creative juices flowing.

Flattering Hair Color Options for Women Over 40 – Hair Stylist, OKC

As a mature woman you want to at least look your age, or just a tad younger. You want to make sure your hair color complements your image. To get the right color there are some tried and true rules you want to follow so you get the best results for your age. . Certain hair coloring strategies will create a more youthful look in older women. It’s good to know what you want before you approach your stylist for a hair color change.

Girl with blonde hair
Girl with blonde hair (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

For women who are blonde or considering going blonde, you’ll want to consider getting bangs and layers in your hair. Instead of bleaching your entire head of hair, it might be wiser to go with extensive highlights instead. If you have layers, bangs, and highlights, you won’t have to return to your stylist as often for touch-ups. Layers will help hide your roots and highlights will simply make roots less obvious.

Get a hair cut that has plenty of choppiness to it and get some long bangs in tandem with streaks if you want to roll back the clock by ten years. Most stylists agree that bold blonde highlights along with the lift that layers provide help to hide wrinkles and other signs of aging. Going blonde with highlights instead an all-over color change is a much better choice than getting your hair dyed red. Unless red hair is natural, this color can bring out blotchiness in the skin and highlight some of the features that aging women want to cover up. A honey blonde hair color with plenty of sunny tones helps tone down the look of brown spots.

If highlights aren’t your thing, ask your stylist to use darker tones on the hair underneath and lighter tones on the hair on top. Better yet, use even brighter highlights around the face. The effect of using color to create depth can have an immediately de-aging impact on the face and making the color of the hair slightly darker underneath gives the overall look remarkably natural.

If you decide to go blonde, or add some highlights to hair that’s already blonde, you’ll need to make sure to maintain your locks. Hair that’s been bleached or highlighted can be sensitive to heat styling and therefore prone to breaking off. After you get your hair bleached or highlighted, you’ll need to do regular hair treatments to keep your hair thoroughly conditioned.

Whatever you do, make sure you choose a color that isn’t too dark for your skin. Super dark hair color can highlight wrinkles and bring out features that give away your age. Instead, if you’re going to change your hair color, choose a tone that’s just one shade lighter than your natural color.

Get Your Own Rock Star Hair Style – Oklahoma City Hairstylist

A variety of different motives may lead you to consider a rock star style. Perhaps you’re the lead singer in a band, or the lead guitarist perhaps. Or maybe you’ve decided that the pretty girl style you’ve been wearing around doesn’t really fit your personality anymore. Or perhaps you’re getting married in March and you want to make a big impression on your guests. Whatever the reason, there are a few rules to follow if you’re hoping to create a truly unique rock star look.

rock and roll party queen (Photo credit: marimoon)

Rock star hair can be long, short, or medium, thick or thin, but there are some important characteristics of rock star hair that you have to follow to get that edgy, head-turning look that people will really remember. First of all, spurn the “natural” look. Go for big and loud. That means you’ll probably need to incorporate some color into your new do and expect to spend some extra time fixing your hair each day.

If you have long hair, tease your hair to give it extra volume. In fact, bigger is definitely better, so tease it a lot. Use a curling iron to create loose, spiraling curls in your dry locks. And whatever you do, avoid being subtle. Every piece of hair should look like you meant for it to be exactly the way it is.

Shorter hair needs to look edgy, rather than soft and feminine. Soft, gentle layers are for country singers and musicians. Get razor-cut layers if you want to be a rock star (or at least look like one). Choppy, intensely defined layers are striking and unforgettable. Make sure they’re cut to flatter your features though. Talk with your stylist to determine the best lengths for each layer. Blunt cut bangs may be appropriate if they flatter your face shape. You can use special styling products to really bring out the wow factor of a razor cut rock star style.

And finally, don’t forget the color. As far as rock star hair is concerned, your best bet is something that stands out and expresses self-confidence. The key is to end with a look that appears utterly intentional. Even though purple or neon green may not be for you, a super bright blonde, or deep blackish blue color may be all you need to get the attention of onlookers. If blocks of color don’t feel right to you, consider coloring your hair so that surprising hues show through every now and then. Combine color with a bold new hair cut that is both flattering as well as striking to finish out your rock star look. Use color in creative ways to express yourself if you want an attention-grabbing rock star style.

Dealing with Damaged Hair That’s Been Permed or Colored – Oklahoma City Perm

It happens to everyone. Women tend to push their hair to the limits at least once in their lifetimes thinking nothing bad will ever happen to them. But the reality is, perms, color treatments, and the day-to-day of styling can really take their toll. If you’ve recently pushed your hair to the edge, you’re probably trying to come up with a way out of your situation. The best advice is, don’t do anything without the help of a professional stylist. If your hair is already dry, frizzy, and damaged then you’re courting disaster by trying to fix the problem on your own. Instead, enlist the help of someone who’s dealt with hair emergencies before so you can get back to your beautiful self.

Hair coloring
Hair coloring (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

First of all, there are some myths out there about hair color. Some women believe that coloring their hair won’t damage it as long as they’re not using bleach. This just simply isn’t true. Every time you color your hair, some damage is done to it. It may not wreak as much havoc as bleaching, but if you’ve dyed your hair a darker color multiple times, beware of doing anything radical with it by yourself. Don’t attempt to perm your hair or bleach it a lighter color without the help of a stylist. Though you may be eager to make a big change, sometimes it’s best to let the hair grow out and start over than to risk having it fall out in chunks because it’s been damaged beyond repair. An excellent professional-grade conditioner specifically for damaged hair may be needed and it definitely pays to get the advice of a talented stylist to decide what to do next (perhaps a hair cut is in order!).

Perming your hair will inevitably cause damage to your locks. Like it or not, a perm may make your hair super-sensitive to hair color. Even if you get a perm and the perm doesn’t take, you still need to exercise caution if you decide to make a color change. A qualified stylist will be able to find hair color options that will work for you despite a perm, but don’t get too confident and try it on your own. Most boxed hair color treatments that you can buy at the local grocery store have a warning in the instructions about using the dye on permed hair because the results aren’t certain. Because perming alters the constituency of the hair, color treatments can go off-course which means damage times two (you’ve damaged your hair by perming it and by dyeing it or bleaching it). Undoing these messes often means doing even more damage to the hair which can be precarious. That’s why women are encouraged to find a stylist who is knowledgeable and trustworthy if they find themselves in this kind of a pickle.

Choosing Hair Styles for the Bridal Party – Oklahoma City Salons

Of course, when it comes to wedding day hair, the focus should be squarely on the bride. That said, it won’t do to have the members of the wedding party gliding down the aisle in all their glorious finery while they are sporting ordinary locks. A special day calls for special hair dos all the way around.

The purpose of having the members of the bridal party do something special with their hair is not so that they upstage the bride. Rather, it is in keeping with the festivities of the day. That said, there are no right or wrong answers when it comes to wedding day hair as long as you are happy. Here are a few ideas you can keep in mind when considering hair styles.

Coiffed or Natural

The particular hair style you choose will depend a great deal on whether you want a sleek and polished look or something more wind swept and natural. More formal events will lend themselves to coiffed ‘dos while a casual beach wedding could be the ideal backdrop for a windswept look.

Matching or Not?

Another option to think about is whether you want all the members of your bridal party to sport the same kind of hair style. There are both pros and cons to this, if you are thinking of them all having matching ones. By choosing the same hairstyle, you can have a sense of continuity to the wedding party. On the other hand, though, if one of your bridesmaids has short hair and the rest all have long hair, finding a style to suit them all might be difficult.

They Choose or You

If you are like many brides, you are more concerned with the members of your bridal party matching each other when it comes to their gowns. Since their dresses are supposed to complement yours, many brides simply pick out the bridesmaids dresses and let the women have the freedom to choose their own hair styles and accessories.

Of course, there is much to be said for the polished look that having all your friends wearing the same dresses with the same hair style while you take the center stage. Or you can allow your friends to have a bit of creative freedom when it comes to their hair. In either case, it’s your call since it’s your special day.

Basics of Scene Hair – Oklahoma City Hair Salon

Scene hair is the latest craze since the emo look evolved. Teens everywhere are making this new style their own by following some basic hair style rules. Though similar in many ways to emo, scene hair has some important differences. Essentially, the scene look is a bit brighter and bit lighter than emo. Though scene hair borrows a lot of tricks from emo, it isn’t quite as dark. With scene hair, you can have the striking appearance of emo, but with a slightly more upbeat riff to it.

English: My scene hair ^.^
English: My scene hair ^.^ (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

First and foremost, scene hair is thinner on the bottom, while it’s thicker and teased up top. The hair that sits below your jaw should be thinned out considerably in order to achieve the overall shape of scene. Layers should be choppy to help add to the volume that’s possible on top. There are many variations in the way that people use layers to create a unique look. The distance between layers will alter the overall look of the do. You can put the short layers in the back of the head and the longer ones in front or vice versa to change the look. Layers may random or cut to frame out the face. It’s up to you.

Razor cut or side-swept bangs are important. Generally, the bangs are parted far off to one side and the hair lands right at the eyebrows. The bangs may also be teased or kept straight. The variations keep it fun! “But it’s important that the hair is healthy (no split ends, please!) and the cut is super-sharp and very straight in order to keep the look of scene hair.

Originality is key with scene hair and a lot of people make use of hair extensions to keep their look unique from day to day. Even if your hair is short, you can create an awesome, longer appearance to your hair using extensions purchased at the salon. There are clip in extensions and, of course extensions that can be attached to the existing hair by your stylist for a slightly longer-lasting do. You can use extensions to get you through an awkward period with your hair while it’s growing out. Whether you’re hoping to do a grunge look or something more along the lines of a “pretty girl”, you can use extensions to get the look you’re going for.

Hair color is also really important to finish off the scene look. Often, scene kids will opt for dark brown or black mixed with a variety of other bright colors. It’s best to head to the salon if you’re hoping to achieve a really sleek scene look because it’s easy to botch hair color at home. There are a lot of crazy colors available through your stylist to inspire you. Be creative and above all, unique in your pickings.

Wild 2013 Hair Color Trends

For those of us who live on the wild side, so-called “normal” hair colors just won’t do. In 2013, that’s okay because a lot of the hair colors that are becoming popular aren’t typical at all. Women who want to try something radically different can get away with it this year without wandering too far away from the trends. So take courage and get ready to try something new and perhaps even a bit unnatural in hair color.

Pastel hues are among some of the more off-beat options in hair dye for women who aren’t afraid of trying anything once. These fashion hair colors can be applied to an entire head of hair used as high-lights. Very light blondes with longer hair can dip the ends in pastel shades of pink or blue to end up with an effect reminiscent of hard candy. All-over pastels shades of pink, blue, green, or purple hair color for shorter hair styles will likely be popular this summer. Experts believe that purple will probably be the most popular color by fall.

Even stranger than pastel shades is silver and gray hair. That’s right! Young women are sporting hair that’s been dyed various metallic shades of gray! If you strive to stay ahead of the pack in terms of fashion, this trend may be the one to grab onto. Matte gray as well as shimmering hues of silver are edgy options for women who aren’t afraid to try something innovative. On young women with lighter skin tones, a silvery hue with pastel pink highlights can be quite attractive. Older women, of course, can make use of the new silvery colors to update their look as well to enhance the gray color that they already have.

Although many of the red hair colors on the market today can be quite normal, 2013 shades of red are less so. Cherry red hair colors have been around for a little while already and the popularity of this shade of dye is expected to continue along with pastels and silver gray shades. There are a number of different hues of red that have made an appearance over the past few months and all of them are head-turners. Firetruck red, copper-toned red colors, and fashion reds are all popular, representing a return to the vintage trends of the 1930’s and 1960’s.

Rather than doing something typical, women this season are encouraged to try out some of these fashion colors and enjoy the vibrance of the season. Though it takes some courage to walk on the wild side, the latest hair colors, though a bit strange, offer excellent results for a smooth and sleek finish. So take a chance and see what some of the 2013 hair colors have to offer!
