Should You Get the Justin Bieber Hairstyle – Oklahoma City Men’s Hair Stylists

It seems like Justin Bieber, like a lot of guys, just can’t get his hair right. Or maybe it’s just that his hair is always making the news and causing a stir. Hair, and the styles that go with it, is a powerful commodity in Hollywood; fans will clamor and complain or praise a star’s latest good (or bad) haircut on a daily basis. If you’re looking to shock your friends and family and get some attention in the process, it’s possible the newest Justin Bieber hair style may be worth trying out.

Bieber’s last hair cut cost him 80,000 followers on Twitter, so he’s pretty familiar with the fickle tastes of his fans. His latest floppy do with the shaved sides has definitely been turning heads, and judgment appears to be divided on whether or not the style suits the young singing star. Some have made comparisons between his style and those of Rihanna and Miley Cyrus. Though Rihanna and Cyrus are obviously female, their hair styles are arguably very masculine and edgy.

It’s always a wise idea to switch up your hair from time to time to keep admirers’ on their toes. Bieber definitely has a knack for doing this and perhaps decided to take his style in a new direction following his break up with Selena Gomez. The 80’s-inspired look isn’t really surprising, given that much of the fashion and hair trends today are using this era as a touchstone. The swoop made girls swoon back in the day and is starting to have the same effect now.

The fact is, if you’re the type of guy who likes to get up in the morning and do practically nothing to his hair, then a Bieber hair style may not be the right choice for you, due to the level of styling that would be required on a daily basis. On the other hand, some guys look great with just about any hair cut that leaves some hair behind. The longer swooping hair left on top is very 1980’s and it might look great on you with very little daily maintenance. Hair that has a coarse texture or a slight curl may not be so easy to work into Bieber’s style, though. Consider visiting with a stylist who can give you some great advice about adopting the style before you make the commitment. Though Bieber can afford to lose 80,000 fans, chances are, you can’t. A stylist can give you an honest and objective view on whether you would look good with a Bieber-style cut.  A ten minute chat with your stylist might be all you need to convince you to take on one of the edgier hair styles of the day.

Hair Styles That Channel the Punk Vibe – OKC Hair Salon

Some people say that there is no such thing as Emo. Or Scene. Even Goth isn’t really real according to nay-sayers. Rather, all these styles are actually just sub-categories of Punk. Believe it or not, Punk has made different faces and whether you ascribe to the idea that Emo, Scene, and Goth are actually knock-offs or not, these various styles do actually have a lot in common.

If you’re in the market for a punk cut, there are plenty of different options to choose from. It’s important to come up with a general direction for your cut before you head to your stylist because of the immense variety of choices available. Punk, Emo, Scene, and Goth are all characterized by their colorful, eclectic, and original expressiveness. Don’t expect for your stylist to tell you how to go punk! Going punk is an individual statement. It’s an opportunity to take a risk. Do some research before you get to the salon and then talk with your stylist about your ideas.

Do you want your hair to be short or long? It’s possible to do either or even both with punk! Shaving one side of your head and leaving long locks on the other side isn’t all that uncommon among those who fully commit to punk. But take some time to consider your overall look and find a flattering punk cut that will bring out your best features. In order to qualify as “punk”, your cut needs to be edgy and a little risky. A too-conservative do just simply won’t qualify!

Besides a hair and fashion style, punk is also an attitude and even a subculture. The style has been influenced by different cultures and even artistic movements and music. As a result, it has its own rhythm. Its own life. And it’s up to you to come up with a way to express yourself using the punk look as an overall direction for your hair. Don’t just get your hair cut punk. Color it punk too! Colors are as diverse as individuals themselves. Be creative and express yourself, but above all, make sure that the final results will turn heads.

Mohawks are iconic punk hair styles, but don’t strive for conformity. Be sure to seek out a stylist who has a creative edge and is capable of thinking outside the box. Choose colors that most adequately represent you. Perhaps you’re moody and dark or loud and vibrant. Your hair color can amplify your personality. And take some risks when it’s time for the cut. As long as the hair cut is creative and truly unique, then it will qualify as “punk”. When it’s all said and done, you should be getting noticed and turning some heads among the more conservative folks in society.

Michelle Obama Disses Bangs, But You Don’t Have To – OKC Hair Stylist

What Michelle Obama had to say about bangs is no lie. They can be a little irritating at times, but the attention that she got from her husband for her fringes tells the tale. Apparently, he loved her fresh look. Despite the fact that bangs take some maintenance time and represent a bit of a commitment, they’re definitely in this fall. And what’s best is that you can get the look of bangs this year without having to cut your hair. Side swept bangs are all the rage this coming autumn. Now you can have a brand new face framing look without having to deal with regrowth later on.

Election Hair
Election Hair (Photo credit: ultrakickgirl)

You may need a few bobby pins to get the look just right, but by pinning your hair to the side so that it sweeps across the forehead, you can get the appearance of bangs without all the fuss. Of course, you do need to have a hair cut that will support a creative approach to producing bangs, but you can talk to your stylist if you want to do your hair this way from time to time. Side swept bangs pinned into place are going to be quite popular this fall.

If the side swept look simply doesn’t suit you, you could go ahead and get bangs cut or you could use some of the new hair technologies that are out there to get the same look without having to commit. Faux bangs that can be pinned into place are becoming much more user friendly. Women today can visit their stylist and order faux bangs that will match their own natural hair perfectly. This is a great compromise for women who like to move with the trends but don’t want to worry about regrowth and that awkward transition period when bangs just get in the way.

For women who have decided to just go for it and deal with their own real bangs rather than attempting to fake it, there are ways to lessen to difficulties of regrowing the bangs to the length of the rest of the hair. Talk with your stylist about getting your bangs cut in a way that will ease the regrowing period and make it less awkward. Come up with a plan for how to regrow your hair into a style that will be easy for you to deal with and still sexy and appealing. Thinking ahead about transitioning out of a look that includes bangs can definitely make a difference when you’re ready to move on to a new style. Bangs don’t have to be “irritating” if you use the right tools and come up with a plan of action in advance for growing them out to a new length.

Beyonce Furthers the Short Hair Trend – OKC Hairstylist

Though initially gleaning mixed reactions from fans, Beyonce’s new pixie cut style has definitely gotten a lot of attention. Her once long and flowing locks have been severely trimmed into something much more trendy, which has led some to speculate that the new do with create waves in the popular culture. To go from really long hair to really short hair is a pretty shocking change, but Beyonce seems to be enjoying the buzz. And word on the street is that other women are likely to go for it and chop long hair into similarly striking do’s.

Upgrade U
Upgrade U (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

Some have compared Beyonce’s new look to Jennifer Aniston’s trend setting hair style claiming that it’s likely to inspire other women to go short. But Beyonce isn’t the only one who’s taken the risk and lopped off the lion’s mane. Anne Hathaway made waves when she cut her lovely locks and so did Miley Cyrus. Though Miley has perhaps gotten fewer rave reviews for her hair than Anne Hathaway, no one can deny that these stars are finally showing their real stuff. Short hair seems to garner a lot of attention along a feminist vein. Rather than turning heads for sex appeal, these stars are using the shock treatment to make the news.

The fact is, a pixie cut is amazingly versatile and though the hair is short, there are a number of different styles that women can choose from to keep things interesting. Side swept bangs offer a great look for formal evenings while pinning the bangs back can give women a more fun-loving and playful look. Slick the hair over the head or spike it up into a Miley Cyrus punk style. The options are limitless if you find a good stylist to give you a cut that will work with your face shape and offer plenty of styling options.

If you’re ready to take your chances on a shorter style, now is the time. The pixie cut is definitely the way to go and women are being encouraged to be fearless and enjoy the freedom that short hair has to offer. It can definitely take less time to style short hair every day and keeping it looking good is also a lot easier than working with a super-long mane. Though long hair will probably never go out of style completely, shorter hairstyles can be really flattering if they’re cut to fit a woman’s face shape and maintained well. Beyonce, Lena Dunham, Anne Hathaway, and Miley Cyrus are demostrating to women everywhere how to make short hair sexy. It seems probable that we’ll be seeing a lot more pixie cuts on the streets now that Beyonce has joined the bandwagon.

The Truth about Men’s Faux Hawks – Oklahoma City Stylist

Men’s hair styles are not nearly as diverse as women’s perhaps because men tend to tease each other about gaudy hair. But that hasn’t stopped some men from wearing their hair to make a statement. Indeed, men who care about themselves enough to do something bold with their hair can be eye-catching to say the least. Sometimes, the attractiveness of the style isn’t the goal, but rather the message it sends to onlookers. This was the original idea behind the Mohawk, which was popular in the 1980’s.

Sitting by a Tree
Sitting by a Tree (Photo credit: Furryscaly)

A faux hawk is a little different from a Mohawk. A faux hawk isn’t quite as in-your-face as a Mohawk, but it still features a central strip of hair that’s made to stand up. The cool thing about this style is that men can wear it as the somewhat rebellious faux hawk or they can wear it down and enjoy looking like a normal man with a conventional do. It’s up to them.

You’ll have to go to a salon to get a cut that will support the look of a faux hawk. If you get the cut and then chicken out and decide not to wear it up in the “Mohawk” position, that’s okay. Your hair will look just remarkably normal if you don’t tease it up and spray it in position. Faux hawks are usually shorter than Mohawks. The hair that’s teased upward doesn’t generally stand up as tall on top of the head as the Mohawk hair of the 80’s did.

Not many hair styles have an interesting history, but this one does. Mohawks have also been referred to as “Mohican” in British English parlance, though the style was actually worn by several Native American tribes like the Iroquois and the Pawnee. The Mohawk nation which was located in New York state plucked their hairs rather than shaving the sides of the head. The hair style was one of open-defiance and rebellion among these native people, which made it perfect as a rebellious hair style for 1980’s youth who were filled with angst and ennui. A movie called Drums Along the Mohawk that starred Henry Fonda made the association between Mohawk rebellion and youth rebellion more salient.

The faux hawk has mixed reviews from other men. Men who are brave enough to go the full distance and do a Mohawk claim that those sporting faux hawks don’t have the guts to openly declare a full rebellion. Men who wouldn’t dream of getting a Mohawk, or anything but a typical business cut see the style as too flamboyant. But still the faux hawk has enjoyed some popularity probably because of its versatility. Men, after all, like to change their look sometimes too.

Choosing Hair Styles for the Bridal Party – Oklahoma City Salons

Of course, when it comes to wedding day hair, the focus should be squarely on the bride. That said, it won’t do to have the members of the wedding party gliding down the aisle in all their glorious finery while they are sporting ordinary locks. A special day calls for special hair dos all the way around.

The purpose of having the members of the bridal party do something special with their hair is not so that they upstage the bride. Rather, it is in keeping with the festivities of the day. That said, there are no right or wrong answers when it comes to wedding day hair as long as you are happy. Here are a few ideas you can keep in mind when considering hair styles.

Coiffed or Natural

The particular hair style you choose will depend a great deal on whether you want a sleek and polished look or something more wind swept and natural. More formal events will lend themselves to coiffed ‘dos while a casual beach wedding could be the ideal backdrop for a windswept look.

Matching or Not?

Another option to think about is whether you want all the members of your bridal party to sport the same kind of hair style. There are both pros and cons to this, if you are thinking of them all having matching ones. By choosing the same hairstyle, you can have a sense of continuity to the wedding party. On the other hand, though, if one of your bridesmaids has short hair and the rest all have long hair, finding a style to suit them all might be difficult.

They Choose or You

If you are like many brides, you are more concerned with the members of your bridal party matching each other when it comes to their gowns. Since their dresses are supposed to complement yours, many brides simply pick out the bridesmaids dresses and let the women have the freedom to choose their own hair styles and accessories.

Of course, there is much to be said for the polished look that having all your friends wearing the same dresses with the same hair style while you take the center stage. Or you can allow your friends to have a bit of creative freedom when it comes to their hair. In either case, it’s your call since it’s your special day.

Basics of Scene Hair – Oklahoma City Hair Salon

Scene hair is the latest craze since the emo look evolved. Teens everywhere are making this new style their own by following some basic hair style rules. Though similar in many ways to emo, scene hair has some important differences. Essentially, the scene look is a bit brighter and bit lighter than emo. Though scene hair borrows a lot of tricks from emo, it isn’t quite as dark. With scene hair, you can have the striking appearance of emo, but with a slightly more upbeat riff to it.

English: My scene hair ^.^
English: My scene hair ^.^ (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

First and foremost, scene hair is thinner on the bottom, while it’s thicker and teased up top. The hair that sits below your jaw should be thinned out considerably in order to achieve the overall shape of scene. Layers should be choppy to help add to the volume that’s possible on top. There are many variations in the way that people use layers to create a unique look. The distance between layers will alter the overall look of the do. You can put the short layers in the back of the head and the longer ones in front or vice versa to change the look. Layers may random or cut to frame out the face. It’s up to you.

Razor cut or side-swept bangs are important. Generally, the bangs are parted far off to one side and the hair lands right at the eyebrows. The bangs may also be teased or kept straight. The variations keep it fun! “But it’s important that the hair is healthy (no split ends, please!) and the cut is super-sharp and very straight in order to keep the look of scene hair.

Originality is key with scene hair and a lot of people make use of hair extensions to keep their look unique from day to day. Even if your hair is short, you can create an awesome, longer appearance to your hair using extensions purchased at the salon. There are clip in extensions and, of course extensions that can be attached to the existing hair by your stylist for a slightly longer-lasting do. You can use extensions to get you through an awkward period with your hair while it’s growing out. Whether you’re hoping to do a grunge look or something more along the lines of a “pretty girl”, you can use extensions to get the look you’re going for.

Hair color is also really important to finish off the scene look. Often, scene kids will opt for dark brown or black mixed with a variety of other bright colors. It’s best to head to the salon if you’re hoping to achieve a really sleek scene look because it’s easy to botch hair color at home. There are a lot of crazy colors available through your stylist to inspire you. Be creative and above all, unique in your pickings.

The Essence of Emo Hair Style – Oklahoma City

The emo look is something a lot of people strive for, but hitting the mark is harder than it seems. Emo styles are many and varied, but they all share certain similarities. If you’re trying to get that “emo” look, but you’re not exactly sure where to start, this article can help you get a sense of what makes a particular cut and style have that “emo” appearance.

English: This is me!!
English: This is me!! (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

First, before you do anything else, you need to find a stylist who has a creative edge and knows a bit about emo do’s. Most emo styles have chunky layers and razor edged, blunt cut bangs. Some of the hair cuts feature side swept bangs, but in almost all cases, the hair comes all the way down to the eyebrows. Look in magazines or online to find a style that you like. Indeed, find several styles that might suit you and then take these images to your stylist to talk about which one would flatter your face the most.

Most stylists will use a razor comb to give an emo hair style sharpness and super straight edges. This is one of the hallmarks of an emo do. You’ll need to take care of your hair to prevent split ends because hair that’s damaged doesn’t look “sharp” (it looks frizzy!). Be prepared to get a trim at least every two months to keep your style on the cutting edge.

Most of the emo styles require that the hair on underneath is somewhat thinned while the hair on the top of the head is teased to make it look even thicker. Ask your stylist to thin out the bottom layers of hair to about 3 to 4 inches. If you’ve never teased your hair before, you may need to purchase a special comb and ask your stylist for a quick lesson on the art of creating volume.

If you’re not sure whether you want to cut off a lot or a little, it’s probably best to be conservative. Though you can always cut off more later, it can take a lot of time to grow back hair that’s cut too short for your liking. If it’s your first time getting an emo cut, then remember, less is more.

And finally, you’ll want to dye your hair to get that unmistakably emo look. It’s unwise to attempt this step at home, especially since emo color tends to be very in-your-face and striking. It can go really wrong if you attempt to color your hair outside of the salon. Besides, your stylist is going to have more color options to choose from anyway. And it’s probable that your hair will suffer less damage using the products available at the salon.

The Pompadour and Quiff

For connoisseurs of retro hair styles, the summer of 2013 has a lot to offer. Both men and women should get ready for “big” hair in the form of both the pompadour and the quiff. These are unisex hairstyles that have been gaining in popularity and making a gigantic comeback. Modifications of these hairstyles allow salon-goers to assert their own unique personalities while still embracing history and hitting the trends head-on.

A cropped photograph depicts singer Elvis Pres...

Related distantly to the Mohawk, a quiff is a hair style that incorporates elements of a pompadour do and a 1950’s flat-top into one unique look. The style was popular in the 1980’s in Europe and it seems to make sense that it would have resurgence of popularity while the fashion trends are currently walking the perimeter around 1980’s clothing styles. A variety of different types of quiffs can be can be successfully sculpted and the style is appropriate for both males and females.

The pompadour, is another style that has unisexual appeal, though variations of it have been developed specifically for men and women. The hair is cut especially so that it can be swept up off the face and worn up high above the forehead. Sometimes, the hair can also be swept upwards around the side of the face and the back of the head also.

Unlike the quiff, which enjoyed popularity primarily in the 20th century, the pompadour was born during the 18th century, with a major revival in the 1890’s. Among women, the pompadour enjoyed popularity on and off until the 1930’s and 1940’s. Elvis Presley elevated the popularity of the pompadour among men in the 1950’s, but since that time, the hair style has been less visible. Today, however, more and more men and women are bringing the pompadour back into the public eye.

Both long and short hair can be worn in a quiff or a pompadour with a little creativity and styling products. By putting long hair up into a pony tail, hair can be given volume on top of the head to the height necessary for a respectable pompadour. The look can be formal and impressive when styled with care. It can also look risky and rebellious when the style is done with less conventionality.

Combined with attention-getting hair colors that have modernized the quiff and the pompadour, many men and women are enjoying the eye-catching appeal of these hair styles. Female celebrities such as Miley Cyrus have gotten a lot of attention for their cutting-edge style. The variations that are possible with the quiff and the pompadour are appealing to a lot of style-conscious people who like to keep with the trends while maintaining some creative flexibility with their hair

Considering Box Color? Don’t Do It and Here’s Why – Oklahoma Hairstylist

When you’re cruising the aisle of your favorite store it may be tempting to pick up a box of hair color and try to give yourself a new look. The price of box color makes it really tempting to try and color your hair yourself, but do you know the risks you’re taking? Most people don’t realize how much damage box color can do to their hair. Not only that, but you will probably not get the color on the box, and you may end up with a real mess.

Allure
Allure

Instead of taking the chance with box color, go to a qualified color professional. A professional knows exactly how to mix hair color to give you the results you want, and protect the integrity of your hair. Here are some reasons to put down the box color and call your stylist instead.

Porosity and Undertones

Your hair has what is known as porosity. This is the ability of your hair to absorb water and chemicals. If you have virgin hair (hair that has never been colored) your hair will be less porous. But if you have colored your hair or used chemicals on it, it will be much more porous. And your hair doesn’t have a uniform porosity. The ends will be much more porous than near your scalp.

A professional stylist will adjust the application and formula so that you get even color. Think about it this way, you wouldn’t expect a pair of pants to be one-size-fits-all, and this is what box color is like. It is formulated to work on all hair types, but there is no way of knowing how it will work on your hair.

Like porosity all hair has underlying tones. Some people have more red in their hair, while others may have more gold. A professional stylist will recognize the underlying tones and adjust the hair color formula so that the color comes out right. Your stylist will also be able to adjust the color formula to accent your natural skin tone. With box color you have no options. Your hair may turn out much redder than expected, or have unwanted drab gold tones with box color.

Semi, Demi, Permanent, Temporary?

Do you know what all of these hair color terms mean? Sure the box may say it will wash out in about 10 washes, but how do you know? Once again it all depends on the condition of your hair to start with. If your hair is untouched and extremely healthy, yes it may wash out in that amount of time. But in most cases it either stays in your hair and turns brassy, or it starts to fade out in spots.

With professional color, your stylist will use the exact formula and type of hair color you need. If you’re not wanting to lighten your hair, then semi or demi color is used. If you want to lighten your hair, and you have never used color, then permanent will work. But if you want to lighten your hair and have used any type of color in the past, you may need to have your hair lightened first. This takes bleach, and bleach should never be used at home.

Box color may seem like a cheap alternative to a professional color service. While you may be able to get away with box color once or twice, in the long run your hair will suffer the consequences. This includes dry and brittle hair, unwanted color, and uneven application. The price of a professional color service not only includes the hair color, but also the many years of experience and training your stylist has had to give you the results you want. Talk to your stylist about hair color, and get her opinions on it. Once you know the facts, you will see professional color is a much better investment.
