Hairstyle Trends for Spring

Spring is just around the corner, which means that all you fashion buffs need to stay ahead of the game! Hair cut, style, and color trends for spring 2014 are a refreshing mix of romance and sport! This spring, there have been plenty of surprising twists and turns in the runway trends.

One of the most important spring trends has to do with the health of your hair. Whereas some trends allow for a little bit of damage, this spring, hair needs to be in tip-top shape. Smooth, sleek, and healthy are the buzzwords that describe many of the looks headed down the runway this spring so crack open the hot oil treatments or head to the salon for some extra help in this department if your hair has been especially damaged by heat treatments, perms, or hair color.

Speaking of hair color, get rid of any of those coppery tones and go for blonde! Talk with your stylist about which blonde hue would work best for you keeping in mind that copper is definitely out this spring. If you plan to get your hair bleached, make sure your stylist uses a product that will cause the least amount of damage to your locks.

Long hair should be parted down the middle and women who sport longer locks may want to carry a spare rubber band to pull their hair back into a low pony when they’re off-duty. Keep fly-away hair under control and keep in mind that straight hair seems to be pretty popular right at the moment. Don’t worry, though, if you’ve got some undulations going on. Beachy, mermaid waves have also been quite popular with the models this spring.

Medium length hair is definitely all the rage this spring. If you want to stick with the trends, it’s probably time to consider a bob. This seasons’ bobs come in all different looks: layered, choppy, sleek, shiny. The bob can be so many different things and it looks good on just about any face shape! Talk with your stylist about using layers to create a face-framing effect that will bring out your best facial features using this hair style.

If long or medium-length hair isn’t your thing, there are plenty of spring trends for short hair. A short crop will give you plenty of versatility. Or what about a side-swept, slightly longer pixie cut? These shorter styles make hair care a breeze each day without sacrificing femininity. A punk undercut is also a good choice, though it may not be for everyone. This spring, women are encouraged to go ahead and go a little shorter if the impulse strikes them to do so. Short hair, as it turns our this spring, can be surprisingly sexy.

4 Best Celebrity Bobs

There’s no doubt about it; bobs are definitely in this season. Celebrities young and old have been sporting this versatile do. There are so many different ways to wear a bob, if you think this hairstyle is right for you, talk with your stylist. Below are just five examples of very different bob haircuts that celebrities have been showing off lately. Come up with your own unique look using this traditional hair cut!

The way Katy Perry wears her bob is a good example of how to take this hair cut to extraordinary levels! Using an eye-catching blue to turn heads, Perry has shown that even though her hair cut is a classic, she can still rock it and make it her own. Consider adding a twist of color to your bob to add a little character to it. If bright rainbow colors aren’t for you, talk with your stylist about more traditional hair color options like blonde highlights or a dip-dye similar to Alexa Chung’s bob.

You could go super-short with the bob or opt for a shoulder-length cut, depending on your preferences. The bob is a perfect transitional hair cut from the pixie to a longer style. Emma Watson has been working the angles on a chic bob after wearing a pixie cut for some time which makes sense since the bob can start short and be shaped slowly as the hair grows.

Faux bobs are all the rage right now. If you’re not sure whether the bob is the right hair cut for you, try a faux bob, like Claire Danes. By pinning your hair up and allowing the outer layers to fall over the top, you can create the look of a bob without actually having to cut your hair. Danes successfully pulled off this look at the 2013 Emmys. A variety of other celebrities have been experimenting with this look as well. It’s easy and it’s an excellent way to turn heads without having the hair cut commitment of a short or medium length hair style.

Jennifer Aniston is well known for her locks. This season, she cropped her hair into a long bob for the movie Squirrels to the Nuts. It’s a new look for her and it’s definitely a keeper! Aniston can wear the bob in an updo or she can tossle the hair with styling products for a completely different look. It’s a versatile style and one that seems likely to catch on.

Whereas some hair styles are hard to grow out gracefully, the bob transitions nicely into longer styles without issue. If you’re in the market for a cut that will undoubtedly flatter, provide plenty of styling versatility, and transition easily into longer styles, the bob is an excellent choice!

How to Find a Scene Hair Stylist

Scene hair is an underground hair movement and as such, finding a stylist who can do a scene hair style may be hard to find in some areas. But don’t despair!

Even stylists who are unfamiliar with scene hair styles can figure out how to make an awesome cut if you provide them with the right information. Scene hair has some basic components that nearly any stylist can master! Start by asking your friends if they know of a stylist who is able to cut scene hair and then move on to the next steps if you can’t locate anyone in your area through word-of-mouth.

scene hair photo

Though you may have better luck going to a private hairstylist, this isn’t always the case. Generally speaking, scene hair involves lots of choppy layers; short layers on top and longer layers on the bottom. Go around first and ask the stylists in your area if they know what scene hair is and ask them if they’re comfortable cutting scene styles. If you can find a stylist who is already familiar with scene hair and comfortable creating choppy layers, you’re in luck! But if no such stylist exists in your area, that’s okay. You can still get the perfect do, you’ll just have to explain what you want in detail.

Find a picture of what you want and make a copy of it or print it out. You need to take this photo with you to the stylist and show him or her what you want. There are picture available in magazines (visit your local bookstore), on the web, or perhaps you could take photos of friends who have scene hair! Be sure the picture illustrates, as closely as possible, what you want your hair to look like after the cut is complete. Many stylists can copy hair cuts as long as they have a picture demonstrating what it’s supposed to look like.

If you simply can’t find a photo, you could describe a typical scene hair cut as being similar to a fashion mullet. Ask for choppy layers with the ends thinned out and the layers getting longer toward the bottom. Explain that you’ll be adding extra volume to the upper, shorter layers and teasing them. Get fringe rather than side bangs and suggest that your stylist use a razor to create the extra-choppy look that is so iconic of scene hair.

Even if your stylist doesn’t know anything about scene hair when you first walk into your appointment, if you communicate clearly about what you want and provide them (ideally) with an image that clearly shows how you expect for your hair to look when the hair cut is finished, there’s no reason why you can’t end up with great results!

Five Hot Hair Trends for the New Year

This year, there are some new surprises as far as hair trends are concerned. Based on the hairstyles that have graced the catwalks lately, there are plenty of surprises in store for 2014. You’ll want to make sure your hair is in tip top shape this year because there’s no room for stressed tresses, that’s for sure. In order to pull off these styles, you’re going to need a healthy head of hair. A trip to the stylist for a fresh cut and some TLC is definitely in order.

One of the most prominent looks this year is a slicked back appearance. Whether your hair is short, medium-length, or long, you’ll want to make sure that it’s healthy or high shine just simply won’t happen. This is a rather informal look that can be worn as a low pony or just loose with the hair near the head slicked back with some high-quality gel.

In addition to heavy gel and the slicked back look, many women are wearing some radical side parts to amp up the style. Whether you wear your hair slicked back or with a little volume, a side part arranged in a more eccentric position on the scalp can definitely turn heads. This look needs the support of a great cut to work right so you might want to visit your stylist to come up with a hair cut that will complement this style.

In contrast to the look of high shine are messy tresses that are purposefully styled to look somewhat wind-blown. This is a look that specifically applies to those with long hair. You can add some gloss to your locks to give them a smooth and shiny look if that appeals to you or you can leave them matte. But, when you braid your hair, leave an abundance of loose strands flying free to get the right effect. If you have medium length hair or short hair, you can talk to your stylist about hair extensions to get the right look.

For women who like to be a bit informal, the sporty look is a great alternative to whispy locks or slicked back hair. Headbands and pony tails are key components of this look which is both sexy as well as practical. Almost anyone with any length of hair can pull off the sporty look which is, perhaps, what makes it such an all-around favorite style for 2014.

Finally, for weddings or parties, try out some whimsical and romantic up-dos, again with plenty of hair flying free. It’s an easy-going, but incredibly romantic look that any woman can do with the right tools. Hair extensions can help you achieve loose up-do’s if you have only medium-length or short hair.

Winter Wedding Hairstyles for Long Hair

Winter weddings can be incredibility romantic, but one thing most winter brides-to-be worry about is fly-away hair. In the colder months, it can be more challenging to choose a hair style that will perform reliably despite the winter chill. But there are some up-do’s and other hair styles that won’t let you down no matter what the weather forecast says. If you’re a bride with long hair and you’re concerned about finding the right hair style for your wedding, consider some of the options below so that you can walk down the aisle with confidence on your special day.

If you’ve scheduled your wedding to take place during the coldest and most unpredictable times of the year, it may be wise to do your long hair in an up-do rather than contending with the potential for static when your hair is down. There are some lovely up-do options to consider. For example, a low bun at the nape of the neck or slightly off to the side may be a good choice and depending on the theme of your wedding, you may want to pull down some extra whispies and tendrils to give it a more romantic appeal.

Up-do’s are an excellent choice for winter wedding hair because there are so many amazing options available for brides-to-be. A tiara can nicely accentuate the hair as well as the dress. Some brides use small flowers or white beads in the up-do to finish off the look. Find a stylist who is expert at working with braided hair. With the right technique, braided hair can add texture and interest to an already stunning updo.

Of course, if you’re committed to keeping your long locks down for your winter wedding, you’ll want to discuss your options with your stylist. Using the right tools and products, your stylist should be able to keep static under control for your big day. It’s also possible to leave part of the hair down and put the other part into an up-do. This can make it easier to keep the hair under control for a winter’s day while still showing off the length of the hair for a striking look.

There are plenty of ways to wear long hair for a winter wedding although, you’ll want to talk with your stylist and come up with a strategy to keep your long locks under control. By planning when your hair will be done and making sure that you don’t provoke static or frizz by pulling your dress over your head after it has been styled, you’ll have much better results. Even if the weather doesn’t cooperate, your hair can still behave the way you want it to with a little bit of planning and effort before the big day!

Hair Extensions 101

Are you growing your hair out after getting a super short cut? Do you wish you could have long, gorgeous locks without having to wait three years for it to grow? Do you wish you had fuller, thicker hair? If you can relate to any of these scenarios, you should consider talking with your hair stylist about extensions. Extensions can add length and volume to your hair in one visit to the salon. It isn’t necessary to wait for months or years for your hair to grow out. You can have longer, fuller hair today through the use of hair extensions.

English: Beautiful natural healthy hair
English: Beautiful natural healthy hair (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

Hair extensions can be made up of artificial or synthetic hair or natural hair that’s been sold or donated for use as hair extensions. Though natural hair is preferred, it is also more expensive. Today, there are a number of synthetic alternatives that are cheaper, but still very realistic-looking and easy to care for.

There are a number of ways in which hair extensions can be installed. Though there are temporary hair extensions available that simply clip into the hair, these can also weigh the hair down. They also take a lot of time to put in each day. Instead, many women use more permanent methods to get hair extensions in place.

Bonding is a process that involves a special type of hair glue that doesn’t damage your natural hair. As long as you follow your stylist’s instructions for care, your natural head of hair will stay healthy and beautiful, which is important if you’re getting hair extensions to help you through a difficult grow-out phase. The hair extensions can be removed by following a very specific protocol that your stylist can help you with when you’re ready.

Another type of bonding is called fusion. Using this method, the stylist attached the hair extensions to each strand of natural hair using a specialized tool similar to a hot glue gun. This method is more damaging than some of the others for installing hair extensions and it can take longer to put the extensions in place (3+ hours at least).

Finally, another common method used to get hair extensions in place is called “netting”. In this process, the stylist braids the natural locks under a special net that will provide a flat surface used to weave the hair extensions. Alternatively, your stylist may be able to sew extensions directly to hair that’s been braided tightly at the scalp. Both of these methods require a fairly significant time commitment of 2 to 4 hours at the salon. After about 4 to 6 weeks of grow-out following the initial placement, the extensions will need to be rebraided to keep them looking their best.

Rock Star Hair 101 – Edmond Oklahoma Hair Salons

To truly capture the essence of a rock star through your hair, you need to take some time to look at the people who made it in the music industry. With few exceptions, rock stars tend to wear their hair very natural and always, their look has to say, “I didn’t try too hard to make my hair look this way.” Rock star hair has to look as though the person wearing it didn’t work too hard on it, but at the same time, sometimes the hair style can be quite flamboyant and eye-catching. What you choose to do with your hair as a rock star, depends on the type of music you’re playing and the overall message you’re trying express through your look.

Kurt Cobain
Cover of Kurt Cobain

These days, rocks stars don’t sport a pristine look. Instead, the hair has to look as though it fell into place, quite by accident. It isn’t that people won’t notice your hair if you do something really dramatic like Annie Lennox with her bright orange buzz cut. But it you choose a style that’s dramatic and eye-catching, you have to wear it with total confidence or it will detract from your look instead of adding to it.

A generic rock star hair style is a no-nonsense, no-frills affair. Unless you’re doing something loud and controversial like Pink it’s best to stick with a timeless cut that won’t go out of style. Stay away from scene hair or the goth look because these styles can make you look jaded. They’ll go out of style eventually and you don’t want to go out of style with them. As a rock star, you really need to make sure your hair style is entirely your own and that it highlights your strengths and downplays your weaknesses. Rather than trying to follow a trend, musicians and rocks stars should be at the forefront, starting the trends.

Annie Lennox
Cover of Annie Lennox

A longer style is probably a better choice than something really short. Bangs are okay, but don’t overdo them. Talk to your stylist about getting some bangs that are flattering but aren’t too over the top. Don’t blow dry your hair until it’s completely straight. Instead, lead it air dry a little and wear it naturally instead. Stay away from straightening or curling the hair with a heat styling tool. The more natural the look, the better.

For the grunge look like what Kurt Cobain wore, you’ll want to avoid washing your hair too frequently. This will give your hair a laid-back look with plenty of greasiness. Talk with your stylist about getting a hair cut that would flatter your face shape and look good without a lot of fuss. If you don’t over-style your hair, your natural beauty will show through and you’ll seem more confident and definitely have a more unique look than someone who is trying to follow the trends.

Men’s Hair Trends

One of the most important trends for men is to keep the hair just a bit longer. Rather than doing a buzz cut or a crew cut, men should plan to leave some length on top of the head and perhaps at the sides too. There are plenty of amazing styles to choose from, but the most important thing to remember is that, if you want to stay with the trends, you need to grow out your hair just a little. Talk with your stylist about the latest hair cuts that are available to fit your face shape and hair texture and then go from there.

man hair photoWhile you explore your options, keep in mind that you’ll actually need to style your hair each day. You won’t be able to cop out and do the same style over and over again either. You need to be prepared to be creative with your hair. Longer cuts make it a lot easier for men to create a variety of different styles. Women love a man who is willing to change his look from day to day to keep things interesting!

No matter whether you’re growing your hair out a couple of inches or down to your shoulders, the undercut is simple and keeps styling simple. This style simply involves shaving the sides of the head while leaving the top of the head and the tops of the sides of the head longer. If you leave a bit of length to the sides of the head that are shaved, you can slick the hair back for a softer look and leave some length on top of the head that can be spiked with styling gel or tossled, depending on your mood each day.

man hair photoHair styles that you’ll be able to consider doing, depending on the way you get your hair cut, include slicked back and tossled looks. You only need perhaps two or three inches of hair all over the head or just on top of the head to be able to do these styles. You can also go for a side-swept style when you get bored with the status quo. If you don’t know how to style your hair, discuss your options with your stylist and have him or her give you the basic rundown on how to make these styles work with minimal effort.

Even though you’ll be spending some time styling your new hair cut each day, it isn’t necessary to spend much time. Most men’s hair styles for medium-length hair are still quick and easy to manage. It might take 3 to 5 minutes out of every day, but the results will turn heads. If you have enough hair to do a slightly longer style, you’ll like the way people respond to you when you grow out your hair and actually style it each day.

For a men’s hair cut, hair style, or hair color that work for you, contact Anastasia in Oklahoma City.

Perms for Long Hair – Oklahoma City Salons

If you’re looking for a way to spice up your look and you have long hair, you might want to consider a perm. It’s been a few years since the perm was en vogue, but lately, it’s been revived. New technologies and developments have made the perm safer and kinder for your hair. That means that you can have long luscious curls that will turn heads even if your hair is normally stick straight.

It can be a challenge to keep renewing your look if you have long hair. Long hair takes extra care and it’s important that you condition it regularly to prevent breakage if you decide to get a perm. On long hair, you’ll want to discuss combining a perm with a hair color treatment. Too many chemicals on you long locks can make your hair brittle and frizzy. Your stylist may be able to recommend a course of action if you feel you must have a perm as well as a specific hair color. Some products are kinder and gentler on the hair than others.

There are a variety of different perm options available for women with long hair. Women can opt for tight, kinky curls or beachy waves depending on what suits them. Kinky curls will shorten the length of the hair considerably. Beachy waves may look more natural but less striking than tighter curls. Talk to your stylist to learn more about the options available to you. Perms have come a long way since the 80’s.

Women with very straight, limp hair can benefit tremendously from a perm. Perms can give hair a real lift, adding volume and versatility to lackluster locks. Using a curling iron or heated curlers, it’s possible to give tight curls a slightly more subtle wave. Beachy waves may even be able to be straightened with a straightener leaving behind straight hair that has plenty of volume. A perm can definitely enliven hair that is limp and lifeless. The chemicals used to process the perm change the shape of the hair shaft itself, which is what leads to these positive effects.

If you have long hair and you’re seeking out a perm, it’s vitally important that you speak to your stylist about previous chemical treatments your hair has undergone. If you’ve colored your hair, had a perm previously, or done any other chemical treatment to your hair, the solution used to do the perm could react negatively with your hair. Your stylist will be able to choose the right perm solution for your needs as long as you communicate with him/her about what your hair has already been through. Long hair needs a special touch, but the results of a perm can be outstanding.

Winter 2013-2014 Hair Color Trends – Oklahoma City Hair Color

Winter 2013-2014 seems normal enough when it comes to hair color, but if you look more closely, there are some interesting things going on under the surface. Mainstream hair has a very traditional and natural look to it this season with yummy colors to offset the cold, icky weather outside. Cinnamon, chestnut, chocolate, and buttery blonde colors are what’s popular among the vast majority of trend-setters this season, but on the flip side, there are some radical color choices available too.

Purify the colors, purify my mind.

The ombre movement is still trucking along with new variations on this attractive hair color paradigm. Get your hair dipped and then pull it back into a pony tail so that the hair on your head is darker than the tail itself. Darker on top and lighter on the bottom is definitely the way to go this season. Though highlights are always technically “in”, stark highlights that create a lot of contrast and look unnatural aren’t as popular on the runways this winter. Instead, models are sporting ultra-blended highlights that could very well be a part of the natural color of their own hair.

If food-inspired colors aren’t racy enough for your taste, you might want to look into the rock or punk scene to get some ideas for winter 2013-2014. Dipped hair can be particularly eye-catching if the color of the hair is a soft pink and purple, for example. Subtle gradations in color have made an appearance as technologies in hair color have gotten better over the years. Rainbow colored hair that subtly changes from red to yellow to orange is entirely possible and can look particularly striking on long, wavy hair.

Be sure you talk to your stylist before you make the commitment to bold colors for this winter. Bold and radical color choices are definitely in the forecast for this winter even though a number of women are choosing to play it safe with more neutral, warm colors instead. Some sources recommend playing it safe with colors that are less bold and saving experimentation for the warmer seasons of the year. An icy, platinum blonde has definitely been hot this season. This is an eye-catching color choice for women who have the right skin tone to support it. Go platinum or go tar black. Either way, you’re bound to catch some attention for your efforts.

Talk with your stylist about the possibilities available for this season. Your hair color and hair cut need to work together to bring about the best results for the winter. Take into account the possibility of hat head as winter approaches. Though your color choices may not change much on account of hat-season, you hair style might and this should inform your color choices.

Latina Hairstyle Trends – Oklahoma City Salons

There are plenty of hot new hair styles and up and coming color trends for Latina women who want to do something new with their hair. Take your cues from celebrities like Jennifer Lopez, Eva Longoria, or Jessica Alba if you want to make sure that you’re wearing trend-setting hair. Latina locks tend to be jaw-dropping and attention-getting anyway, but if you want to make your hair stand out as unique in a crowd, while still following the latest trends below are some ways to do it.

Jennifer Lopez
Cover of Jennifer Lopez

Jennifer Lopez is always a good icon to follow in terms of hair and fashion. Her latest look includes long, flowing locks that have been colored to a natural, creamy caramel that complements her olive skin tone. Her long hair is always attractive whether she wears it up, down, straight, or curled. The hair color can help give body to the hair and definitely make it stand-out.

Long hair definitely provides plenty of versatility for women who like to have choices about the way they style their hair. A center part with the hair pulled back into a bun like Jessica Alba is a possibility for formal events while a whimsical updo can leave hair flowing around the face which is extremely feminine and romantic. Camilla Belle has been spied wearing her hair in a bumped up updo inspiring a new trend among Latina women.

For women who prefer slightly shorter dos, a bob is a good choice. This hair style leaves room for plenty of versatility in terms of styling and yet when left down, it can be striking and extremely flattering. Salma Hayek wears her hair in a bob with a lot of volume for a romantic look that just won’t quit. Latina women who choose this hair style can have both flexibility as well as styling options and they don’t have to contend with a voluminous head of long hair each day. Talk with your stylist about getting a hair cut that will be simple to style with a curling iron or a thick round brush to get a look that’s both attractive and easy to maintain.

And finally, if short hair is your thing, consider a curly crop like Susie Castillo or a short bob like Tatyana Ali. Tatyana wears her bob with a center part that simplifies the maintenance on this do. Cameron Diaz is another short-haired icon with a crop that she wears in a variety of different styles. The moral of the story is, whether your hair is long, medium, or short, Latina women can enjoy plenty of versatility by following in the footsteps of some of today’s Latina celebrities. Today’s Latina hair style trends are creative, fun, and full of possibility.

Hair Cuts for Maximum Style Versatility – Oklahoma City Hair Stylists

Some women choose their hair cut based on popularity of a particular style while others choose their cut based on the ease with which their hair can be fixed each day. Others choose their hair cut on the basis of versatility or the ability to be able to fix their hair differently from day-to-day. If you enjoy fixing your hair each day and making it look differently from one day to the next, you’ll definitely want to choose a hair cut that will support many different styles with ease.

Short Hair: There are a few key things to take into consideration when you’re thinking of a cut that has maximum style versatility. Though length isn’t necessarily related to the versatility of a cut, it does help to have a little bit of hair to work with, of course. However, very short hair, if cut in the right way, can be fixed in many different ways. For example:

  • Pink (the celebrity) has hair that’s extremely flexibility. She can wear it in a giant, blaring pompadour or she can slick it back and wear it down.
  • Cameron Diaz is another great role model for short, but versatile style. Though her hair is pretty short, she’s even managed to pull it back into an updo in back.

Medium Length: Medium length styles are particularly flexible for people who are not necessarily of the punk persuasion. A bob is actually a fairly flexible hair style if it’s just long enough for it to be pulled back into an updo. Medium length hair can be worn down, or up, pinned back at the sides, curly or straight. It isn’t too heavy to wear up for long periods of time. Medium length hair is also easy to style each day. If you get the right cut, you’ll have lots of choices, but none of them will take very long to pull off.

Long Hair: Long hair can also be quite versatile, but the longer your hair is, the more you need to pay attention to the texture of the hair in order to find a style that will be flexible for you. If you have really curly hair, for example, it’s essential that you choose a cut that will maximize the number of different styling options that you have. Your stylist will be able to suggest different styles that will complement your hair type while affording you different choices each day.

The best way to find a style that will give you tons of flexibility for day-to-day variation is to discuss your needs with your stylist. Your stylist will be able to steer you toward the best cuts for your hair type and face shape while still taking your need for flexibility into account.
