Do you glance in the mirror and long for a different look? Maybe you’ve been coloring your hair for some time and are just plain sick and tired of the same color over and over again. Why not take advantage of the new color trends this season? Your stylist has hundreds of color combinations that she can choose from to bring your look up to date and get you out of that boring rut.

Pastels: One of the hottest looks this season is pale blonde with pastel accents. You can choose an all over color wash over a blonde base or opt for shots of color in bold streaks or smaller sections woven throughout. This isn’t the old fashion blue hair of old ladies gone by, this is a whole new concept that is showing up on runways and hair shows all over the world.

Vibrant Reds: Nothing says sexy like a vibrant shade of red. Reds have been popular for many years and this season they are being reinterpreted in deep auburn and violet-red shades. One of the most daring looks is a deep red base color with chunky highlights of violet, orange and gold. If that is too much drama for you then try a beautiful mahogany red shade with deep chocolate low lights that will fire up your look.

Bring on the Brunettes: Deep chocolate, espresso, mink, and all shades of brown are popular this season. Full of depth and movement, today’s brown is shot through with caramel and golden highlights. This color choice is a great way to blend in gray without looking unnatural. Brunettes look stunning with any complexion and your stylist can help you decide which shade will bring out the best in your features.

Midnight Black: Whether you choose blue-black or a soft black, this is one of the most dramatic colors that have gained popularity today. Think Abby off of NCIS and you can see how black can be a fashion statement. Elizabeth Taylor, Liza Minnelli and Jane Russell all rose to stardom wearing glossy black hair. You can add even more drama if you’re daring enough with violet low lights or stay subtle with coffee low lights.

So get out of the color rut and let your stylist bring you into the season with a new hair color. She has the knowledge and skills to help you find a color that is perfect for your skin tone and lifestyle. Color treated hair needs tender care so be sure to choose shampoos and conditioners that will protect and nurture your hair. Ask her for product recommendations to help keep your color as vibrant and fresh as the day you leave the salon. No matter which color palette you choose, a new color can breathe a breath of fresh air into your look.

Stylist Rescues You from Box Color!

You decide you want to color your hair, or maybe you have been coloring your hair but you are going to try something different. You look at the cost of a box of hair color at the pharmacy, and you think about how much a professional might charge you. You opt for the box of hair color, and with your coupon, you come out excited with your purchase. You follow the directions and then your rinse your hair and dry it! You look in the mirror and your first thought is “OMG, what have I done to myself?” Let your stylist get in there and fix it!

The truth is, you think you are saving yourself money by buying a box of hair color and coloring or highlighting your own hair – but in the end it may end up costing you more than a box of hair color! Often times when you are going with hair color out of a box, you can end up with uneven hair color and hair tones. When a professional stylist applies color, they know which hair textures will absorb color better and they know how long to leave color on your hair. They know how to apply it to get an even color.

Box hair color can also leave your hair dry and damaged! Your stylist is equipped with the knowledge and tools to make sure that your hair is protected before, during and after the coloring process. There are colors that your stylist may use that even add condition and shine to your hair. A do-it-yourself box of color may leave your hair dry and brittle requiring some intensive conditioning treatments. In the end, you may not be saving yourself any money.

Covering up grey hair is something we often try to do with box hair color only to find that the rest of your hair looks dull without sheen while your grey hairs don’t match the rest of your hair color – or may not have been covered at all. Let your stylist take care of the color and they have the tools and the knowledge to work with those stubborn grey hairs!

Another hair color hurdle that many women face is choosing the right color! Maybe you colored your own hair and realize that your skin tone with the color you chose just don’t compliment you. Your stylist can help you choose a color that will bring out your best features by working with your skin tone.

So if you have made a mess of your hair – don’t panic. Contact your stylist; ask if they know how to work with color correction or if they can refer you to someone who can. Don’t be embarrassed about your failed attempt! It happens to so many women that color correction is now a menu item at most salons. And don’t use box color – you don’t need the heavy ammonia and other chemicals that make it damage your hair.

Don’t Let The Fate of Your Hair Rest on A Box!

Using at home hair coloring products is often more damaging to your hair than you know. Do it yourself hair color kits use chemicals like ammonia that are more than strong enough to color your hair, but also leave it dry and damaged.

Because of the wide array of techniques and products professional hairstylists use to color your hair, going to a salon to get your hair colored is far less damaging than doing it on your own.

At home coloring kits provide you a picture on the box which represents the color the dye is supposed to change your hair to. The chemicals in the box are strong enough to get your hair to the desired color as long as your hair isn’t too far off from it in the first place — from dirty blonde to auburn, for example. But consumer hair coloring products remove all of the moisture and protein from your hair, often making it look worse than it was before, just a different color of worse.

Besides the damage that home coloring does to your hair, you will also probably not get the exact color you wanted. Consumer products are not meant to dye to a color that is far different from your natural hair color. If your natural color is light blonde and you want to dye your hair to a dark brown or black, it is going to take more than one dye job to get to the color you want. Multiple applications of strong hair dye in a short period can damage your hair to an extent that not even deep conditioning and protein treatments can save.

A professional hair stylist will decide on the perfect combination of dyes for your hair, to get it just the way you want it. Professional products are not as strong as the products you get at the store, and mixing them or having multiple applications will not damage your hair anywhere near the extent that a do-it-yourself coloring kit will. If you want your hair to turn out to be the exact color you’re looking for with the minimum amount of damage possible, especially over time, then it is best to have a professional take care of your hair coloring needs.

Don’t let the health of your hair rest on a coloring kit in a box. If you would like to have a fresh new color for your hair and still have it as healthy as it was before you dyed it, Anastasia can help. Call to schedule a consultation, and we can work out a hair color that is perfect for you and discuss how we can keep it looking fabulous even after it’s dyed. A woman’s most important asset to her beauty is her hair and, if it’s unhealthy and dry, then it becomes more of a hindrance than an asset.

Risks in Coloring Your Own Hair

With any home coloring job there is a chance that something will go wrong. You could pick the wrong color shade, or an improper combination of chemicals could damage your hair so badly that an immediate protein or deep conditioning treatment is in order.

These risks are especially prominent when you color your hair in your home. No one likes to be excited, at first, about getting a new hair color only to be disappointed by a different shade than they expected or unnaturally dry hair. Why take the risk of serious damage to your hair, when there are reliable and experienced hairstylists out there who can help?

While the chances of having a bad color job are reduced when you go to a stylist, the fact of the matter is, even if you get your hair colored by a professional, there is still a chance that the stylist may improperly mix the chemicals into your hair and you’ll get the same bad results you would if you did it yourself.

If you get a bad coloring job from your stylist and you think that you can fix it at home, you are sadly mistaken. Simply trying to cover one color with another can damage your hair beyond all repair short of a drastically short haircut. If your hair is badly damaged, it make take a few trips to the salon to get it back to looking fabulous. If you walk out of the salon and find out at home there is something wrong with the color — whether it be the color itself or apparent damage — return to the salon within 72 hours to reverse the damage and come out of the ordeal on top. You don’t have to settle for a bad color job, just because you think there’s nothing you can do about it. If they can’t fix it, find a talented colorist who can.

It’s important to depend on a stylist who has a lot of experience in hair coloring. I have years of experience doing and repairing (from others’ mistakes) even the most difficult of color jobs. Do you want deep black hair, even though your natural hair color is light blonde? I can make it happen, and your hair will leave the salon as healthy as it came in.

Don’t put the health and appearance of your hair at risk, make an appointment or call Anastasia for a consultation today and we’ll see what we can do for you, whether you’re just getting a new hair color or need to fix your previous color disaster. I guarantee you’ll leave the salon happy.

Some Fashion Trends for Sooners to Keep an Eye on in 2009

Most years,  fashion and hairstyle trends take more time to hit the Midwest but, if fabulous moves in from the coasts, it’s moving more quickly in 2009.

Colors to Keep You Trendy This Year

Neutral Color Tones: Tried and trusty neutrals are as in style as they are any year, but 2009′s neutrals come together in layers. Grays, ifblacks, lavenders, and beiges should go hand-in-hand this year. A black or lavender shirt under a light gray sweater would be a simple and stylish choice if you don’t want to be too extravagant.

Yellow Yellow Yellow!: The color yellow is making it big this year! Yellow can be hard to match with other colors that aren’t so bright, but if you can mix it with a similarly bright purple or red, or solid black it can look fabulous. Wearing a yellow makes you really stand out in a crowd and gives you the aura of being wild and free. Definitely the way to go if you want to make a loud statement this year.

Fashion Styles You Can’t Live Without in 2009

Ruffled Tops, Dresses, or Smocks: Ruffles are a major player in fashion this year. A good ruffled top or smock can make almost any unfashionable pair of pants seem fashionable again. A dress with ruffles at the hem or along the collar or shoulders gives any woman a playful look that’s as timeless as it is cute.

Harem and Drop-Crotch Pants:
Wide-legged pants really disappeared from the fashion scene for a while but in 2009 they are back again in full-swing. 2008 saw some in-style harem pants, but 2009′s variation is a little less wide and a bit more flattering to the legs while still hiding flaws.

Drop-Crotch pants are the opposite of harem pants, as they start big and taper as they go down. Drop-crotch pants look akin to something MC Hammer wore in the ’90′s, but trust me: they’re big again. The drop-crotch pant can be hard to work an outfit around, but once you find a top and a pair of shoes to work with it, it looks fantastic.

Styles to Keep a Lookout for

2009′s Bob: The timeless bob, what would we do without you? The bob itself never goes out of style, but the preferred variations change year to year. This year the lovely pixie cut bob and the eye-catching cropped bob are attention grabbers.

Straight Hair Makes a Comeback: Last year, wavy hair was in style and it looked fabulous. This year the preferred way to wear your hair if it’s long or medium length is straight and sleek. A good cut, a curling iron, and some wax or mousse will be your best friend this year.

Ponytails: Ponytails are a bit of a gray zone in hair trends. It’s so simple, and sometimes you just can’t have your hair blowing all over the place. In 2009 the ponytail is actually in, and a carefully controlled haircut can really make a simply ponytail seem like so much more.

Haircolors in 2009 to Make You Say “Wow!”

Deep Red: A nice dark and deep red is always beautiful and in 2009 it’s also stylish as well, which is good news for those redheads out there. A deep red gives a hint of sophistication that other hair colors can’t match up to, except maybe a nice ash blonde.

Ash Blonde: Ash blonde is a really traditional hair color that rarely seems to really come “in” style, it’s just always there and looks good. This year is a good year for ash blonde and those who have it.

Dark Browns and Black: Black has a little mystery to it, doesn’t it? Well the mystery this year is how it got to be so popular! Dark colors are on the rise, and that includes black and close dark browns. Black or dark brown hair is a staple of almost any unique look and they both just look good.

There’s a lot to keep up with in the fashion world, and its especially hard in the land of the fashionably late. If you want to keep in style, you need to work with a stylist that keeps up with trends – otherwise it might be back to bleach blonde – and that’s so 2007!  Give me a call to  see when I’m available, and we’ll set a date to bring you up to date and looking stunning in 2009.

If your hair color and skin tone don’t blend well, you’re going to look awkward. Your skin tone is the color of the main pigment of of your skin. Are you more yellow than pink? Then you’re a warm. If you have more pink pigment than yellow, then you’re a cool.

Figuring out which skin tone you are is essential to deciding on which hair color you will look best in. If you’ve spent a long time planning out your look and go with a hair color that does not mix well with your skin all your effort will have been for nothing. A person with a warm skin tone and a cool hair color just looks unnatural.

For warm skin tones, more bold hair colors are optimum. A dark browns and golden blonds will compliment your skin nicely.

If you have a cool skin tone, then obviously lighter colors are in order. Keep with appropriately light browns and strawberry or light blonds.

Reds can work with both skin tones, but they need to be carefully chosen. Darker reds for warm skin tones and lighter reds for cool skin tones. It’s all about balance and knowing what you are.

You’ll be amazed how great you look if you match your skin tone with a matching hair color. If you’re not sure what color is the best for you, you are not alone. Call me and make a coloring appointment and we can figure out which hair color is going to look the best on you.
