Hair for Squares – Oklahoma City Hair Stylist

If you have a square face shape then you may struggle sometimes with finding the right hair cut or style to flatter it. The angular features of a square face can be quite attractive when paired with a hair cut and style that flatters those features. On the other hand, if you style your hair without regard for your face shape, you may not be getting the effect you’re really after. Use your mane to create an attractive appearance with a square face shape. It’s not as difficult as you might think, once you get the basic principles under your thumb.

Even gorgeous celebrities take pause to think about their face shape before they cut their hair. Miley Cyrus, Lily Adridge, and Jessica Biel have all used their hair to make the most of their face shape. Though you’ll need to consider the length of your hair, the texture, and the amount of time you’re willing to spend on your do each day as well as your face shape, taking your cues from some square-faced celebrities can create outcomes that you can be happy about.

If you want a longer length to your hair, then you might consider creating layers that gradually get longer and longer. Situate that first layer at about the chin area. This will help to offset the strong, angular jawline that characterizes the square-shaped face. Make sure that your layers turn in toward your face as well. Layers that curl inward will help move the eye toward the center of the face to make it look less wide. In contrast, layers that flip outward from the head will broaden a square shaped face. This can make even a thin square-shaped face look chubby.

If you’re after super short hair, make sure that you get a do that’s going to create length in your face. Miley Cyrus has gotten a lot of press for her pixie cut which creates extra height on top of her head. That extra height has given her face the illusion of being longer, which is flattering. Extremely short hair like this can make a bold statement, but on a square-face it can be quite attractive.

And finally, if you have a square face consider bangs when you go to get your next hair cut. A rounded fringe cut can help to create a frame around the outer edges of the face, which draws the eye inward. The bangs should be rounded with the outer edges just slightly longer than the center by about an inch to an inch and a half. By rounding out the bangs, you’ll softer the angular features of the face considerably. The rounded fringe has a decidedly slimming effect on the face.

5 Tips for Great Hair Extensions – Oklahoma City

Hair extensions are extremely popular, but many people are hesitant about using them. After all, the best extensions are 100% human hair, never synthetic. It can seem strange, if you’ve never done it, and first timers usually have a lot of questions. Hair extensions can help your hair look great and boost your natural hair growth, provided that you use them properly and take good care of them. Here are a few things about hair extensions that will help you learn about their use and maintenance;

Choose the right ones: When it comes to hair extensions, you have a lot of options. First of all, you have to choose whether you want individual strands or wefts. Individual strands can be hooked on at different places in your hair to create a layered look. If you want to go for an equal length hair look, you can get wefts which are kind of a curtain of hair that is hooked from the top and free at the bottom. Another choice you have to make is between clip-ons, glue-ons, weaving, and using waxes or chemicals to stick them to the hair. The simplest option is to get the clip-on extensions, so you can easily take them off and put them back on whenever you want. If you want to use any of the other products, it is best to ask your stylist for advice – she knows your hair best.

Avoid Synthetic extensions: Don’t ever buy synthetic hair extensions as they look very bad as they cannot give a natural look. Moreover, they get damaged very easily and you cannot treat them like normal hair. Always choose hair extensions made from real 100% human hair as they give a more natural look and are easy to style. However, you need to make sure that the extensions match your hair color and if you have streaks, ask your hair stylist to create a similar look with the extensions.

Wash & moisturize: Most people don’t realize that you need to take care of your extensions and treat them just as you treat your natural hair. You need to wash them after a couple of days and them moisturize them using a good conditioner. Remember, your hair gets moisture from the scalp but the hair extensions don’t, so you have to take special care with them.

Avoid harsh treatment: Don’t pull on your extensions, use hair dryer in extra high heat or apply too many chemicals to them. You have to keep in mind that these hair extensions have already undergone a lot of processing before they reached you and exposing them to more treatments will only cause the hair to break. Make sure that you brush softly but take out all the tangles before you go to sleep.

Visit the stylist every 6 weeks: Your hair grows about an inch every 6 weeks so it is important to schedule a visit to your hair stylist at that time so that he can remove the extensions and check for any kind of product buildup. After inspection, she can clean and reattach any loose extensions, or extensions that have grown out, and you are good to go for another 6 weeks.

You Don’t Have to be Japanese to Have Japanese Hair Straightening Oklahoma City Hair Stylist

Japanese hair straightening has become very popular. The Japanese method makes your hair sleek, straight and shiny. This method actually reconstructs your hair from the inside out and makes it stronger. It is the perfect solution for dry frizzy hair or hair that has experienced damage. How the Japanese method works is the hair shaft is softened up with chemicals, a flat iron is used to form the new straightened curl pattern and a neutralizer is applied to lock in the straightened pattern. The Japanese method is considered a permanent straightening method. It will last until your hair grows out.

You don’t have to be Japanese to have this method done, in fact many celebrities have it done on a regular basis. According to an article on FOXNews.com, actress Julianna Moore has her hair straightened by Ty Holbrook, who is a stylist at the John Frieda salon in New York City. Although not confirmed, some celebrities which may have Japanese hair straightening done are Jennifer Aniston, Tyra Banks, and Carmen Diaz. It is hard to tell who has had this procedure done since it looks so natural.

The Japanese method is also known as thermal reconditioning. It has been around for many years in Japan and China and has recently become very popular in the United States. New advances have made it safer than ever to have beautifully sleek hair that is healthy looking and in great shape. The Japanese method has none of the health risks associated with some straightening methods since it contains no formaldehyde or formalin. The next time you see a celebrity with straight, silky smooth hair she may have had the Japanese hair straightening method done. Like the old saying goes, “only her hairdresser knows for sure.”

Permanent Straightening versus Temporary Straightening Procedures – Oklahoma City Hairstylist

Shiny sleek hair used to be just a dream of women who had curly or frizzy hair. Today you can have straight and healthy looking hair no matter what texture or type of hair you have. Stylists have several choices for straightening hair. Permanent straightening methods last until your hair grows out while temporary straightening methods will eventually wash out. The good news is even high quality temporary straightening methods can last up to 6 to 8 weeks if you use the proper at home hair care products.

Two of the most effective and healthy straightening methods is Mazani and iStraight. Both of these products have formulas developed for relaxed, permed or colored hair. Your hair stylist will give you an expert consultation to determine which formula is right for your hair. She will ask you about your hair’s history as far as color and chemical treatments, so be honest and let her know exactly what you’ve used on your hair in the past. This will ensure you will get the results you want without any damage or breakage. Once your hair stylist has determined which formula is best for your hair you should be prepared to spend several hours in her chair. Permanent and temporary straightening methods can take up to 4 or 5 hours depending on the length and thickness of your hair.

iStraight is considered a permanent straightening method. It works by reconstructing the bonds in your hair which control its curl pattern. This permanently straightens your hair. You will need to go back every 6 weeks or so depending how fast your hair grows to get your regrowth treated. iStraight makes your hair sleek, smooth and very shiny. The negative ions in the relaxer combine with the positive ions in the neutralizer to seal your cuticle layer to give you maximum shine. Ceramide, an ingredient which occurs naturally in your hair, bonds with your hair to further strengthen and fortify it. Unlike many straightening systems, iStraight uses no silicone or harsh chemicals. Your hair will be smooth, straight and healthy looking. The benefits of iStraight include stronger hair, permanently straightened hair, and no damage or breakage.

Mazani is considered a temporary straightening method, but with proper care can last up to 6 to 8 weeks. There are formulas for relaxed, colored and damaged hair available from Mazani. Mazani uses their patented C3 Smoothing Complex to produce shiny and sleek hair that is healthy and strong by relaxing your hair’s natural curl bonds. Your hair stylist will determine which formula is best for you and recommend at home care products to extend the life of your straightening treatment. The C3 Smoothing Complex contains coconut oil, Ceramides and Cationic Polymers. Coconut oil nourishes and moisturizes your hair. Ceramides bonds with your hair’s molecular structure to strengthen and protect it, while the Cationic Polymers provide strength and protect your hair from breakage and damage. The benefits of the Mazani straightening method are strong and shiny hair, gentle yet effective results and Mazani is safe for relaxed and color treated hair.

Don’t take chances on the health of your hair. Go to a hair stylist who uses iStraight and Mazani straightening systems. Both of these permanent and temporary straightening systems are free of harsh chemicals and ingredients which can damage your hair and your health.

What High Ammonia Hair Color Can Do to Your Hair

We all want to maintain somewhat youthful looks and occasionally enjoy a new hair color just to perk us up. It’s all in the name of beauty and she is a powerful force to be reckoned with. This is why hair color has become so mainstream.

Ball-and-stick model of the ammonia molecule, ...
Image via Wikipedia

Unless you are careful though about where and how you color your hair, you could end up damaging your hair permanently. Most box hair color products on the shelves contain ammonia. Ammonia is a known alkaline chemical that is used to open up the hair shaft so that the color or dye sticks for a couple of weeks to one month. The amount of ammonia in the hair color is a big factor in determining what the effects will be. For example, as a rule, the more blonde you want your hair color to be, the more ammonia content can be found in the product.

You will know the hair color product has ammonia because it has a distinct smell that stays on your hair for about 12 to 24 hours after you color your hair. If you keep using the hair color with ammonia, you expose yourself to high level of this chemical. What happens? You can expect any or all of the following effects:

  • Damaged hair
  • Dry hair and dry scalp
  • Irritation, redness, rashes
  • Hair loss
  • Dandruff or itchy scalp
  • Nausea

The problem is not just these effects but the long term side effects, some of which are still unknown or unverified to this day. The issue is not what the long side effects will be, rather when will they start showing up.

You do not have to use hair color with ammonia just to get the hair color you want. A talented and conscientious colorist will choose higher quality products than you get at low dollar salons or supermarkets. Low ammonia hair color is the best. You’ll notice that it doesn’t even have the smell, when it’s being applied, will likely have built in conditioners, and will last longer against fade.

Beauty does not have to achieved at such high costs to your health. Consult your colorist. Ask about the color being used. Smell the air, and you’ll know right away about the ammonia content.
