Hairstyles in the News November 8, 2010

We continue to look toward celebrities for ideas for our hair. Sometimes we find styles we love and sometimes we find styles that strike us as peculiar and a bit too trendy for the corner market or work. Celebrities have the luxury of being able to be on the cutting edge of fashion and hair styles, but for the regular person we sometimes need to take a celebrity style and adapt it to our lifestyle and time constraints. This week we see what the stars are up to and which ones you might want to try out for yourself.

Red hair is hot this season and Debra Messing has one of the most glorious manes of red hair around. She has the perfect skin tone and eye color for her fiery locks. Worn here down with curls and waves it is truly a lovely and sets off her natural beauty.

Scarlett Johanson looks stunning in this creative updo. To get this look back comb your hair and then smooth it out and hold it in place with a large elastic head band and plenty of hair spray. This would be a gorgeous updo for special night out on the town.

Victoria Beckham is a regular in the news for her hairstyles and fashion choices. Seen here a few years ago before she had her hair cut into a short bob, this updo is flattering and polished. You can achieve this style even with short hair with the addition of human hair extensions by your stylist.

Singer Deborah Harry debuts her shockingly white blonde locks at the GQ Magazine’s Gentleman’s Ball on October 27th. The color looks stunning on her and she is one of the few women who could carry this color off with style. You may want to have your stylist add a bit of gold to your color to create a softer version of this very trendy look.

Australian pop-star Orianthi shows what you can do with some creativity and human hair extensions. She recently had dark extensions added to her blonde hair for a fun and funky look.

Corrine Bailey Rae shows us how beautiful full natural curls can be. In this picture Corrine has her hair styled in long wavy curls with plenty of body. Her hair was dried slowly with a blow dryer and her curls were defined with a curling iron. Styling wax amped up the body and glossing spray gave it maximum shine.

That’s it for this week’s Hairstyles in the News. If you found a look you want to try ask your stylist to tailor it to your face and lifestyle. Until next week keep looking toward the stars and try out one of these smashing celebrity looks.

Posh Bobs – Made Popular by Victoria Beckham

Variations on the classic bob hairstyle abound, especially among well-know actresses like Uma Thurman. Katie Holmes has also been seen sporting the modern day bob with bangs, while Charlize Theron looks great in her blond layered bob.

But it is Victoria Beckham, also known as “Posh Spice”, who has given the bob a newer modern look. Voted as having the best hairstyle in 2007, the Posh bob is shorter in the back while being longer in the front with an angle to it. Her asymmetrical cut has caught the attention of the world. The Posh bob is all tousled and messy but still smooth and sleek.

Victoria Beckham sported long hair for quite a time. But her Posh bob is being copied the world over because of its sophistication and hint of sultriness. This is not that different from the attention received by Farrah Fawcett in the 70s or Jennifer Aniston in the 90s.

The style, however, compliments nearly every head. The look gives fine hair a lift and for thick hair, the weight is removed. The posh bob frames the face while falling gently over some of the facial features, like the eyes.

Your stylist should be proficient with razor cuts, because the razor is one of the best ways to texturize the hair and achieve this specific style and look. To ensure your posh bob stays stylish after shampooing and conditioning, massage with an anti-frizz balm and mousse. Blow dry the hair, brushing the hair towards the face, not forgetting to brush stray strands as well. A wax may be used to spike up some strands. Finally, to keep the style in place, finish off with a spray.

The Posh bob has helped bring the glory back to short hair. Short hair can be sexy and sophisticated with a posh bob.
