Wildest Punk Styles – Oklahoma City Salons

Punk is a look that continues to thrive as a underground look that’s full of potential. If you want to be creative with your hair, punk is definitely the way to go. The only rule that defines this look is that there are no rules: Be creative! The wildest punk hair is a work of art. In order to put together a look that truly unique, you’ll need to think outside of the box and know the basic elements used to create punk styles.

English: Punk Girls Morecambe 2003
English: Punk Girls Morecambe 2003 (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

Of course, there’s creativity and then there’s chaos. In order to strike a balance between these two poles, you’ll need to think about your hair type, your face, and how you can use punk to express yourself while simultaneously flattering your features (unless your goal is to do the opposite). If you’re trying to create the look of chaos, punk is definitely the right medium for that, but if you’re hoping to end up with any sense of order or logic to your hair, you’ll need to think ahead and then talk with your stylist about the look you’re hoping to create.

Shaved hair, wild colors, dreadlocks, and corn rows can all be incorporated into the punk look with enough creativity and the spirit of innovation. Keep in mind, though, that some of these punk elements require upkeep and maintenance. You may need to work hard to manage a wild punk style. If you’re willing to do the work, then by all means, put together something truly remarkable. Make your hair into a work of art.

The wildest punk styles are a combination of different elements such as shaving and dreadlocks. Hair extensions can add a lot to a punk style, especially if your hair is currently really short and you’re hoping to grow all of it or portions of it out. Though you may have thought of dreadlocks or beads and feathers, you may not have thought about them in the context of punk hair. Dreads and carefully chosen permanent hair accessories can give your style a unique edge. Shaved hair that has been carefully formed into geometric shapes under longer locks can give you a striking look when you pull your long hair back or spike it up.

If you’re going for Shock Factor, think of your hair in terms of different styles that you could do. Utilize long, dramatic spikes, shaved areas of the head, and creatively inspired elements like dreadlocks or even cornrows to make each style surprising. Use hair color to further enhance the various styles that you plan to do with your hair. The wildest punk styles have been strategically planned with care and collaboration with a skilled stylist familiar with punk hair.

Should You Get the Justin Bieber Hairstyle – Oklahoma City Men’s Hair Stylists

It seems like Justin Bieber, like a lot of guys, just can’t get his hair right. Or maybe it’s just that his hair is always making the news and causing a stir. Hair, and the styles that go with it, is a powerful commodity in Hollywood; fans will clamor and complain or praise a star’s latest good (or bad) haircut on a daily basis. If you’re looking to shock your friends and family and get some attention in the process, it’s possible the newest Justin Bieber hair style may be worth trying out.

English: Justin Bieber at the Sentul Internati...
English: Justin Bieber at the Sentul International Convention Center in West Java, Indonesia (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

Bieber’s last hair cut cost him 80,000 followers on Twitter, so he’s pretty familiar with the fickle tastes of his fans. His latest floppy do with the shaved sides has definitely been turning heads, and judgment appears to be divided on whether or not the style suits the young singing star. Some have made comparisons between his style and those of Rihanna and Miley Cyrus. Though Rihanna and Cyrus are obviously female, their hair styles are arguably very masculine and edgy.

It’s always a wise idea to switch up your hair from time to time to keep admirers’ on their toes. Bieber definitely has a knack for doing this and perhaps decided to take his style in a new direction following his break up with Selena Gomez. The 80’s-inspired look isn’t really surprising, given that much of the fashion and hair trends today are using this era as a touchstone. The swoop made girls swoon back in the day and is starting to have the same effect now.

The fact is, if you’re the type of guy who likes to get up in the morning and do practically nothing to his hair, then a Bieber hair style may not be the right choice for you, due to the level of styling that would be required on a daily basis. On the other hand, some guys look great with just about any hair cut that leaves some hair behind. The longer swooping hair left on top is very 1980’s and it might look great on you with very little daily maintenance. Hair that has a coarse texture or a slight curl may not be so easy to work into Bieber’s style, though. Consider visiting with a stylist who can give you some great advice about adopting the style before you make the commitment. Though Bieber can afford to lose 80,000 fans, chances are, you can’t. A stylist can give you an honest and objective view on whether you would look good with a Bieber-style cut.  A ten minute chat with your stylist might be all you need to convince you to take on one of the edgier hair styles of the day.

Considering Box Color? Don’t Do It and Here’s Why – Oklahoma Hairstylist

When you’re cruising the aisle of your favorite store it may be tempting to pick up a box of hair color and try to give yourself a new look. The price of box color makes it really tempting to try and color your hair yourself, but do you know the risks you’re taking? Most people don’t realize how much damage box color can do to their hair. Not only that, but you will probably not get the color on the box, and you may end up with a real mess.

Allure
Allure

Instead of taking the chance with box color, go to a qualified color professional. A professional knows exactly how to mix hair color to give you the results you want, and protect the integrity of your hair. Here are some reasons to put down the box color and call your stylist instead.

Porosity and Undertones

Your hair has what is known as porosity. This is the ability of your hair to absorb water and chemicals. If you have virgin hair (hair that has never been colored) your hair will be less porous. But if you have colored your hair or used chemicals on it, it will be much more porous. And your hair doesn’t have a uniform porosity. The ends will be much more porous than near your scalp.

A professional stylist will adjust the application and formula so that you get even color. Think about it this way, you wouldn’t expect a pair of pants to be one-size-fits-all, and this is what box color is like. It is formulated to work on all hair types, but there is no way of knowing how it will work on your hair.

Like porosity all hair has underlying tones. Some people have more red in their hair, while others may have more gold. A professional stylist will recognize the underlying tones and adjust the hair color formula so that the color comes out right. Your stylist will also be able to adjust the color formula to accent your natural skin tone. With box color you have no options. Your hair may turn out much redder than expected, or have unwanted drab gold tones with box color.

Semi, Demi, Permanent, Temporary?

Do you know what all of these hair color terms mean? Sure the box may say it will wash out in about 10 washes, but how do you know? Once again it all depends on the condition of your hair to start with. If your hair is untouched and extremely healthy, yes it may wash out in that amount of time. But in most cases it either stays in your hair and turns brassy, or it starts to fade out in spots.

With professional color, your stylist will use the exact formula and type of hair color you need. If you’re not wanting to lighten your hair, then semi or demi color is used. If you want to lighten your hair, and you have never used color, then permanent will work. But if you want to lighten your hair and have used any type of color in the past, you may need to have your hair lightened first. This takes bleach, and bleach should never be used at home.

Box color may seem like a cheap alternative to a professional color service. While you may be able to get away with box color once or twice, in the long run your hair will suffer the consequences. This includes dry and brittle hair, unwanted color, and uneven application. The price of a professional color service not only includes the hair color, but also the many years of experience and training your stylist has had to give you the results you want. Talk to your stylist about hair color, and get her opinions on it. Once you know the facts, you will see professional color is a much better investment.

One of the hottest trends this season is pastel hair color. Whether you want to add just a touch of color or go all out, the choices are almost endless. Blonde to blue is a stunning combination. In this picture honey blonde hair fades into a deep pastel blue. This combination is also very attractive on darker hair. Your stylist will have to bleach the ends of your hair first if you have dark brown or brunette hair to get this effect.

Pink to purple is one of the most popular pastel combinations. In this picture very light pastel pink deepens into almost lavender ends. The key to this look is a sealmess transition from one color to the next. You don’t want a line of demarcation to spoil this very pretty and feminine combination.

Silver hair is another hot trend, and when combined with black ends it creates a stark contrast. Women of all ages are embracing sliver gray as their hair color of choice. You can use any color for the ends, but this combination is very trendy right now.

If you’re daring enough, all over pastel color is an option. In this picture mint green hair plays off her eye color. You can use blue, purple, pink, orange, or any color you want for this look. Just remember if you have dark hair, it will need to be lightened first.

Ask your stylist about one of the hottest trends this season. She can help you choose the color combination and look right for you.

Beautiful Bouffants at the Oscars – Oklahoma City Hairstyles

The 2013 Academy Awards was an exciting evening of talent, fashions, and hairstyles. Many celebrities wore their hair in long luxurious styles. Two of the styles which stood out in this evening of stars were worn by Adele and Maria Menounos. These lovely ladies wore their hair styled in sixties inspired bouffants. The bouffant has made a comeback in recent years and is one of the most feminine styles which looks good on almost every woman.

Adele wore her hair in a half updo bouffant with long middle part bangs framing her lovely face. You can get this style by backcombing the crown area of your hair and then gathering up the top half of your hair into a mid-level ponytail. For extra glamor use a pretty hair clip to keep the ponytail in place. Use a flat iron to smooth your bangs, and add waves or curls to the rest of your hair with either a curling iron or hot rollers.

Maria Menounos’ hair was worn brushed back and held in place with a small strand of hair acting as a hairband. The secret to this look is also backcombing. Backcomb the roots of your hair and use a natural bristle brush to smooth the top of your hair. Pull a small strand of hair from the side and pin it across the front to form a headband.

To get the maximum amount of volume, use a volumizing mousse while blow drying your hair with a large barrel brush. Flip your head over and concentrate the flow of the blow dryer on your roots until they are dry and then when you flip your hair back over you will have lots of volume. In order to get the most volume from backcombing take small sections of hair and using a small teeth comb, comb toward your scalp. The more you backcomb, the more volume you will get. Spray your hair with lots of hairspray to keep everything in place and you will have red carpet worthy hair.

This shaggy cut is very versatile. You can wear it spiked up when you feel a bit daring, or brush it smooth on days you need a more conservative look. How to Band Natural Hair – Oklahoma City Hair Salon

Natural hairstyles have become very popular, and with them come special care needs. Natural hair is prone to breakage, and high heat tools add to this tendency. One way to help your hair relax before you style it is to band it. Banding stretches the hair gently without heat. It is one way to protect your natural hair from damage, while making it more manageable. All you need to band your hair are good quality covered ponytail holders. Be sure to get ones that are wide enough to band your hair correctly, and have enough padding protect your hair.

http://beadsbraidsbeyond.blogspot.com/2011/04/banding-faq.html
Beads Braids Beyond

After you wash your hair and towel dry it, use a large tooth comb to detangle it, and apply a leave in conditioner. Section out your hair like you are going to do all over braids. Apply moisturizer to the first section of your hair, and place a covered ponytail holder at the base. Add more holders spacing them a half inch to one inch away from each other. Continue down the section of hair until you reach the ends. Braid the ends which are loose. Repeat this process on all sections of your hair, and let dry overnight.

In the morning you can take the bands out and style your hair. Your hair will be stretched and much easier to braid, twist, or set in flexi-rods. Banding is a great choice for children’s hair. It protects their hair from heat while making it much easier to work with. Ask your stylist for suggestions for moisturizing and conditioning products to protect and nourish your natural hair. She can also help you learn how to band your hair, and give you suggestions about styling.

Flip It for Spring – Oklahoma City Hairstyles

What hairstyle gives you extra body and volume almost effortlessly? What hairstyle is workable for short, medium, and long hair? It’s the flip. While not really technically a hairstyle, it is more of a way to take a deep side part to the next level. The trick is to style your hair as you normally do, then take your hair to one side and flip it. What you’ll get is a very pretty look which is more casual and sexy than a traditional part.

http://www.allure.com/hair-ideas/2013/look-now-the-side-flip-hairstyle#slide=4
Allure.com

One way to get the most volume is to bend over and blow dry your hair while it is flipped over your head. Concentrate the blow dryer stream onto your roots. When your hair is almost dry stand up and flip your hair back in place. What you’ll get is lots of volume and texture. (This works best with medium to long hair.) You can also use a curling iron to form a flip. Curl your hair like you normally would, and then flip it into a side part. Take the curling iron and just curl near the roots at the flip. This also adds lots of volume.

Use root booster, styling paste, volumizing mousse, or gel to help add volume. Hairspray applied near the roots, and then using your fingers to lift the hair, will give you more control and help keep your flip where you want it. So have fun and give your hair a flip. This is one of the hottest new trends for spring, and works on all but very short hair.

A layered cut is a great alternative to a traditional
bowl cut or fade for young boys. Ask your stylist to cut your young man’s hair in
choppy layers with interior razor layering. Blow dry the hair in the natural wave pattern, and apply some smoothing serum or pomade to keep any frizz under control.

Does your young man have a skater side? If so a shag may be just the style for him. Ask your stylist for a chin length razor cut shag.
This cut has many choppy layers which bring out the natural wave pattern of the hair. Use a small round brush to blow dry the hair, and then a bit of smoothing serum to add definition.

The pixie is another classic short hair style which has been popular since the early 20th Century. Originally made popular by the “flappers” of the 1920’s the pixie has gone through many evolutions since its introduction. Annette Benning’s textured pixie is one example of how you can style this classic cut. You can also wear it straight or slicked back in the trendy wet look. This year is the year of the natural curl. Men and women are discovering the freedom of working with, instead of against, their hair’s natural curl patterns. Don’t think you can’t have a cute short cut if you have curly hair. Find a stylist who is experienced cutting curly hair, and she can give you your choice of looks. The key to keeping curly hair looking great is moisture. Use a deep conditioning treatment once a week, and a light leave in conditioner each time you shampoo. Argan oil is perfect for curly hair. It absorbs into the hair shaft and doesn’t leave your hair feeling or looking greasy.

If you’re looking for a new style for next season, why not ask your stylist about a short cut? She can help you find one that is just right for your personal style, time commitment, and face shape. Short hair is sexy and a great look for spring. Ask your stylist for the best hair care and styling products to keep your hair healthy looking and easy to manage.
