Most-favorite Bob Variations of all Time – Oklahoma City

Throughout the years, the bob has been one of the most-loved and sought-after hairstyles and many celebrities have sported it in the past. Even today, many celebrities carry a bob with elegance and style. However, the interesting thing is that there have been several variations of the bob and all of these have been in fashion for decades. If you are someone who cannot manage long hair or find the daily styling tedious, a bob is one of the best options for you.

Sleek and Straight

One of the simplest and most stylish forms of bob is sleek and straight. A lot of celebrities are wearing it and it is the easiest to pull off. Whether you blow dry you hair or simply straighten it, a straight bob is much more manageable than all its other variations. The straight bob comes in different lengths – it can be very short or shoulder-length, depending on your preference.

Waves and Curls

A bob is not only for people with straight hair – if you have wavy hair, you can very easily wear a short bob or one with layers. With a layered bob, you can easily divide the volume so that you don’t end up having a fluffed up hair do. If you are not sure, you can always ask your hair stylist to guide you.

Pulled Back

One great way of carrying a bob is by pulling back hair from the front and tying it up neatly, while the rest of the hair hangs loose. You can also incorporate a little bit of back combing if you are afraid that the pulled back look will look too flat. The best thing about this style is that it looks formal, especially if you add a classy hair accessory.

Bob with Bangs

If you have an oval or round face, you can still wear a bob extremely well by adding some bangs or fringe so that it frames your face and makes it look slimmer. By adding highlights to your hair, you can make it look even more glamorous and give your face a much thinner effect.

Chin Length

If you have a long face, the chin length bob is definitely for you. A short haircut makes a face look longer so the best cut for long faces is chin length bob with bangs for extra effect. Another thing you can try with long face is putting waves or curls in your hair to soften it up.

The chin length bob has been sported by many celebrities and has a great overall effect on the personality.

Inverted Bob

One of the trendiest and the sexiest bob variation is the inverted bob. The hair on the front is longer than the back and the top is fuller, making it look much more stylish that the other variations. The stacked and graduated look at the back is very effective and it looks great with highlights. If you are not so sure about this style, ask your stylist to show you some pictures.

The 1980’s have inspired all kinds of fashion trends as well as hair styles that have been renovated for a more modern age. For example, side braids have made a big comeback and women with long hair can make the most of this style with a little help from their stylist. Though not the easiest to do if you’re working alone, side braids are relatively quick and simple if you go to a salon. Get a loose or messy braid or one that is styled more tightly, depending on the event and what you plan to wear. Side braids come in several different varieties and they can be done in several different directions on your head to get the most flattering look.

Another option for women with long, thin hair is the bun. Everyone knows what a bun is, but these days, many women are wearing them down lower at the nape of the neck. Done properly, a bun can make your hair look full and elegant. With the help of a stylist, you can hit the town with a bun that looks sophisticated and fashionable.

And then there’s the hair pouf, which is a style that’s definitely unique and eye-catching. Backcombing and bobby pins are necessary to get the look right along with super-strong hair spray. Your stylist can help you get the look right without leaving bobby pins exposed or hairs out of place. A bump hairpiece can help add volume to the topmost part of the head. The extra lift can help make this style attention-grabbing and give your thin hair the look of more volume and thickness.

Rather than all up or all down, a half-up, half-down hairstyle for long, thin hair can be quite appealing. Using special salon-grade products, your stylist will be able to create a look of volume to your hair and perhaps a few waves. A few tendrils around the face can add to the femininity of this look.

Even though your hair is thin, you can still maximize the effects of a special occasion do if you have long tresses. Visit your stylist to learn more about how your long hair can be done up (or down) into styles that will complement your outfit and look appropriate at the big event.

Great Medium-Length Hairstyles for Weddings

Whether you’re the bride-to-be or a supportive brides’ maid, if you have medium-length hair, you’ve got lots of hair style options to choose from that will complement your attire. Medium length locks are surprisingly versatile when it comes to special occasions, but you may want to pay a visit to the salon to the get the perfect special-occasion look that will last and last throughout the entire day and into the night. No matter whether your hair is straight or curly, there’s an updo for you that will top off your overall look for some unforgettable photos and great times!

Most women mistakenly believe that long hair is the best length for special occasions, but, in fact, medium length hair can be styled using special tools that will make it look longer and more voluminous than it really is with less weight and less hassle than long hair. And, of course, there are permanent or temporary hair extensions that can create surprising effects in medium-length hair. You stylist can help you put together a very formal and yet trendy look you’ll never forget.

Side sweeps are particularly popular with women these days who have a special event like a wedding their future. Using some bobby pins, heavy-duty hairspray, and a little bit of finesse, your stylist can put together something elegant and yet very hip that will last all day and into the night. Side sweeps are best done on straight or curly medium-length hair because hair that’s too long can make this style heavy and hard to manage.

Depending on the length or your hair, a low bun may be a possibility too. Even if your hair isn’t quite long enough for a full bun, a hair piece may be able to give the illusion of long hair, which can be a fun, attention-getting change. A high bun, or upswept hair on the top of the head is also a possibility to create a regal appearance for that special day. Once again, your stylist may have some tricks up his or her sleeve to give the illusion of longer, fuller hair for a day.

If you have curly locks, you may be able to get away with an upsweep or low bun as well, but a French pleat or retro appearance may also be appealing for the big day. A lot of celebrities today wear curly hair pinned up using retro metallic or diamond –studded clips to create a believable flapper-look that brings out the femininity in any woman. Getting retro hairstyles just right takes some technique and it’s definitely best to go to a salon for help if you want it to look just right. Curly hair can be put to good use using this style, however.

Formal But Not Too Formal Hair Styles for a Semi-Formal Event – Oklahoma City Salon

It can be remarkably humiliating to choose the wrong hair style for a formal or semi-formal event, which is why many women go to the salon to make sure they get it right. Going too casual with your hair can dress down a very respectable evening gown. Hair that’s too formal can make you look a little foolish too. Figuring out the right balance for your hair at a formal or semi-formal event can make or break your overall appearance, but don’t worry, there are styles that can make you look elegant and yet not overdone at any event. Rather than take your chances, go to the salon to get hair that will last through the duration of your semi-formal or formal bash.

A good way to keep your hair within safe boundaries at an event that requires special attention for your hair is to pull some of the hair up and leave the rest of it down. A few elegant tendrils can help give your hair a very balanced formal, yet relaxed look. But don’t overdo it. Discuss the event with your stylist to come up with a do that will keep this balanced formal-but-balanced appeal.

Braids have made a come-back recently in a big way. There are a variety of different types of braids that can give your hair a slightly different textural finish. Not only are braids done at the back of the head, but the trend is for the hair to be braided in innovative ways. For example,, a braid can be done that looks like a headband sitting just above the hairline. The front half of the hair can also be braided around to the back of the head in an attractive sweeping line that is both sophisticated and yet fun.

For something simpler and yet just as eye-catching, a half-French twist can satisfy your need for something formal and yet not too formal. Shoulder-length hair is perfect for this do because it isn’t too heavy after the style has been fastened in place. Leaving some of the hair flowing free to keep the half-French twist from over-doing it on the big day. The hair that’s left out of the twist can be styled in any number of different ways. Your stylist could curl it or crimp it, or straighten it depending on your tastes.

And finally, if braids or French twists don’t interest you, then you might want to go retro with pinned curls or do something more playful like a spiked bun. Both of these looks can take some finesse to pull off so don’t be shy about having your stylist make them happen before the big bash. Elegantly pinned curls bring out the best in any woman. Spiky buns, in contrast, are just plain fun and flirty. Both are perfect for medium-length locks and if you have them done by your stylist, should fulfill the need for something semi-formal.

The Wedge Hair Cut Revisited – Oklahoma City Salon

Lots of women these days are sporting hair styles that have been recycled from the 1970’s or 1980’s. The wedge hair cut has a lot to offer women who want a medium length do that will flatter the face and be easy to fix every day. That’s why the wedge is making such a big come-back today. It’s the perfect combination of convenience and aesthetics for women on-the-go.

The wedge bears some resemblance to the inverted bob, which was re-introduced as a line bob, stacked, or angled bob in 2013. Both the wedge and the inverted bob have arrived back on the fashion scene due to its flattering appeal. Celebrities like Victoria Beckham, and Rihanna have pushed the thresholds of popularity for the inverted bob while Jenny McCarthy wears the wedge with flair. Nicole Richie has also amped up the popularity of the wedge using a glossy finish to give it a particularly polished look.

A super-straight wedge may not work for everyone, but some variation can be adapted to most heads of hair. A basic bob hair cut can be carefully designed to flatter curly, wavy, or straight hair and various face shapes. Some women may look better with bangs or extra length to the cut. The angle of the hairstyle is also important. A talented stylist may be able to provide you with advice to set you up with a wedge or bob that will be most flattering to your face.

Originally, the wedge was an adaptation of the bowl cut and women who wore it generally had naturally very straight hair. Dorothy Hamill, the Olympic figure-skater made the wedge haircut famous and popular in the 1970’s and since that time, it’s appeal has not really faded, though the styles have been recreated several times over. The key is to find a shape, length, and angle that is ideally suited to your face shape and hairstyling goals. Though there are some higher-maintenance wedge hair cuts on the market, women who are too busy to fuss over their hair can find a suitable cut that will style quickly and easily for their day-to-day beauty regimen.

Today’s wedge is a combination of that original bowl cut and other layered hairstyles that are related to the bob. By combining a variety of different and interesting elements into the modern-day wedge, stylists have been able to make this hair cut one of the most adaptive hairstyles available to today’s busy woman. A wedge can incorporate different textures of the hair to give it personality and make it ideally suited to the face shape. It’s an excellent choice for women who don’t want super-short hair, but also can’t take the time to deal with long hair either.

The Concave Chipped Bob is a Cool Summer Style – Oklahoma City Hair Salon

If you’re looking for way to keep cool this summer, a new short hairstyle is one of the easiest ways to do just that. A few years ago Victoria Beckham made waves in the fashion world when she had her hair cut into a concave chipped bob. This style is still very popular, and for good reason. It is short in the back to keep you cool, and has longer layers which frame your face giving the cut a very feminine edge. The asymmetrical length also creates interest and movement making this cut a good choice for almost all face shapes. You may also want to add some highlights in the front to give your color a lift.

This type of bob is very easy to style. On towel dried hair apply root booster and use a ceramic barrel brush when you blow dry your hair. Starting in the back, pull the hair up in small sections and concentrate the dryer’s air stream on the roost first. Next pull the brush and blow dryer to the ends directing the hair under by rolling the brush. Create a deep side part and use the same method on the shot side of your hair. On the longer side of your hair, use your brush to lift the roots and direct your hair the direction you want. When this section is almost dry, use the cool setting on the blow dryer to set your style.

You can use a large barrel curling iron on the longer side of your hair to define the wave or curls if you want. A mini-barrel curling iron in the back will give fine hair more volume. Apply some shine serum and give your hair a spritz of hairspray. You will have to keep up with your trims to keep this style looking good. You’ll be cool, in style and looking great with this concave chipped bob.

5 Ideas to Stay Cool This Summer – Oklahoma City Hairstyles

Summer in Oklahoma City can be hot and humid and you need a style which keeps you cool and looking great all day. Nothing is more aggravating than to spend a lot of time and effort on your hair only to have it go flat or frizz up once you get in the heat. One option is to get a short style, but if you don’t want to sacrifice your length, updos are a good choice to keep cool this summer. Here are some ideas to stay cool and look great.

Bobs are very popular choices for short and medium length hair. They come in many varieties and offer several styling options. A fun bob is an asymmetrical cut. Longer on one side, this cut helps to soften a square face and give a round face more definition. If you’re not brave enough to have one side of your hair shorter than the other, you can achieve a similar look by pinning up one side of your hair and using a pretty hair clip to add some glamor.

A layered bob is great for fine and thick hair. For thin hair it helps to add volume, and for thick hair a layered bob removes some of the weight and lets your natural wave pattern shine. Ask your stylist for a layered bob with or without bangs or fringe. You can style this cut straight, wavy, or put it up in hot rollers for a curly look.

A graduated bob is a sleek and classic look. The hair is cut on an angle and is a shorter in the back and layered a bit. One of the things that makes this cut unique is the sharp angles around the face. Combine this look with a striking hair color and you’ve got an edgy and sophisticated look.

Braids are still going strong this summer. Braids are a way to keep your length and be very creative. You can wear your hair like the picture, with a braid across the hair line and the back of your hair pulled up into a braided bun. If you have long hair, have your stylist braid your hair into small plaits and then pull them back into a ponytail, or wrapped them up into a stylish bun.

A side French braid gives a simple ponytail a lot of style. This is a great look for work, a night out, or just shopping around town. To get this look, make a deep side part and pull a section of your hair to the front. Braid this section into a French braid and then gather your hair into a ponytail. Pull a small section of hair out of the pony and wrap it around the elastic and secure it with hair pins to hide the elastic.

Summer will be hot, there’s not doubt about that. You can look cool and polished with these styles. Ask your stylist for cool summer hairstyle ideas, and which products to use to keep your hair shiny and fresh.

Oklahoma City summers are hot and humid. The last thing you want is to have your hair on your neck, but you may not want to make the commitment to get it cut. There is an answer, it’s a pinned up bob. This is a style that will carry you through the hot summer days and nights. What’s so great about this style is it is simple to do and gives you the look of a bob without sacrificing any length.

First on towel dried hair apply some volumizing mousse throughout your hair. Blow dry your hair using a large barrel brush directing the ends of your hair under. If you want some waves and curls, set your hair in hot rollers or use a curling iron. Brush your hair out gently once it is completely cool. Spray a light spritz of hairspray all over your hair to make it more manageable.

Next take small sections of your hair and roll the ends up until you reach the length of bob you want. Secure the ends under your hair with bobby pins and hair pins. Spray each section as you go with hairspray to keep it under control. Continue this procedure until you have all of the ends of your hair rolled up and pinned.

If you have medium length hair you can pin the sections onto your scalp. For longer hair, use enough bobby pins to keep your hair up and out of the way. This is a great retro look and harkens back to the days of glamorous starlets. Apply some red matte lipstick, keep your eye makeup natural, and you’ll have Kate Winslet’s look at the April 6th re-release of Titanic in 3D in London.

Katie Holmes has had many roles in her career notably in Dawson’s Creek and Batman Begins. Her modern interpretation of the classic bob is a slick style which is longer and more face framing than the 20’s version. Her side bangs are not as severe and a bit wispy.

If you’re thinking of a new style, why not give one of these classic looks a try? Your hairstylist can help you decide which version is best for you.

Hairstyles in the News January 11, 2012 – Oklahoma City Hairstylist

Welcome to the first edition of Hairstyles in the News for 2012! The New Year is a time for resolutions and new beginnings. Hairstyles are no exception and the latest trend is short hair. This week we’ll look at some of the most popular and upcoming trends in short hair for women. If you see a style you like, ask your stylist for recommendations to make it work for your face shape and lifestyle.

Style Bistro

Tina Mojorino had her hair styled in a cute layered cut at Fox’s “Napoleon Dynamite” Sound-A-Like contest. You can get this style by asking your stylist for a short layered cut and randomly curling sections of your hair vertically on your curling iron. Use some styling paste to piece out the curls and give your hair more definition.

Style Bistro

Michelle Williams had her hair cut in a cute pixie at at the 2012 Palm Springs International Film Festival Awards Gala. The pixie continues to be a very popular hairstyle. Michelle’s is cut very short and worn simply. Pixies can be worn many different ways and look great straight, wavy or curly.

Style Bistro

Jenna Elfman attended the premiere reception for Showtime’s “Shameless” Season 2 with her hair cut in a short angled bob with long side fringe. This is a good cut if you have a high forehead or very square jaw as the side fringe adds a bit of softness to your face.

Short Hairstyles

Jenny McCarthy’s longer blonde angular bob is an example of a style that will add some definition to your face. This is a great look for round faces since the deep side part helps to create the illusion of an oval face shape. The length is a bit longer and frames her face very well.

Short Hairstyles

Brook Burns’ wavy cut is very feminine and flatters almost every face shape. To get this look you can use hot rollers or a curling iron. If you have naturally wavy or curly hair, all you need is a bit of texture spray to bring out the natural wave pattern.

Allure

Model Tao Okamoto’s bowl cut makes a statement with its angles and heavy bangs. This is not a cut for the faint of heart, but if you’ve got the moxie to pull it off it is a stunning style. Use anti-frizz spray and a flat iron if your hair is not straight.

That’s all for this week. Short hair isn’t for everyone, but if you want a change of pace you may want to give it a try. Always remember, hair will grow back so no style is forever. Until next week, be safe and keep your eye out for the next celebrity hair trend.
