Like to change your hairstyle with the latest trends? Not sure the short hairstyle was a good idea? Wish your hair was thick and luxurious? Go for hair extensions. Some celebrities’ hair extensions are obvious while others will surprise you:

The Truth About Hair Extensions: Extensions must be put in by a qualified stylist at a reputable salon. Before having extensions put in, talk to an extension specialist; they will be able to tell you if your hair is suitable or not. Natural hair and extensions must be blended so the style looks natural.

Synthetic and Human Hair Extensions: There are two main categories of extensions, human hair and synthetic hair.

Human hair that is unprocessed, and has the cuticles aligned in the same direction, is high quality hair. Hair with the cuticle base going in different directions, leading to mangled hair when attached, is low quality hair. Human hair comes in a variety of grades and hair extension grades are advertised by ethnic origin. Eastern European nations supply most hair for Caucasian women, and the hair will last approximately one year if properly cared for. This hair takes a bit more time to maintain than synthetic hair.

Synthetic hair is created from man-made fibers and is meant to blend with human hair. This hair doesn’t move and look as much like normal human hair, so it doesn’t blend as well with your own hair. When styling your hair and extensions, do not use heat-styling tools or color-treating on synthetic hair; it will damage the extensions. Some companies now make heat-safe synthetic extensions.

Extension Methods:There are so many options with extensions….however four types are commonly used:

  • Weaving
  • Fusion
  • Bonding
  • Clip-in

Caring For Extensions

Hair extensions wear out with normal wash and wear; wash your hair 2-3 times a week vs. every day. Do not go to bed with wet hair, and do put your hair in a ponytail to avoid waking with tangles.

Brush your hair; your extensions will not fall out from brushing. Just don’t brush your hair harshly; too much brushing may cause the bonds to loosen. Use a brush with soft bristles, working your way up your hair from the bottom to the top. When you reach your scalp, hold the extensions at the root area and brush gently from the root through the ends.

Do not straighten human hair extensions; the heat will damage the extensions. When straightening synthetic hair, use a low heat setting or don’t use heat-styling products at all, since the heat will cause hair to warp or burn.

Plan to visit your stylist every 4-6 weeks to check for ordinary damage and replace any bonds that have loosened.

Hair Extensions Accessorie: Hair extensions take a few accessories to care for them…

  • Straightening iron
  • Curling iron
  • Flat iron
  • Comb
  • Hair dryer
  • Fusion iron
  • EZ Weft tool

Problems with Extensions: Extensions are expensive, they can damage your natural hair near the attached area, and too many extensions can strain the scalp. Again, check with your stylist to see if you can wear extensions.
