The Contemporary Hair Color Crazes for 2016

The results are in…let’s check out what were the most requested hues at salons throughout the nation this year…

Opal Hair

Opal hair is what happens when you mix trendy gray hair with the rainbow hues. This new craze in hair color draws inspiration from the ocean, as the mermaid-color appears pearl-white at first glimpse but changes in shade the longer you stare at it. Opal hair is a fantasy of hues—girly pastels that can rock out at the office with opal stone and glistening pinks, blues, and purples, all in just one color. Imagine leaning forward to flaunt more pink, and turning backward to give an onlooker more greenish eye-candy.

Ronze

Ronze is a mixture of copper-red and bronz-brown tones; but take note, not all Ronzes are alike. Your colorist will recognize what Ronze version will look the best on you. In general, dark skin tones need deep Ronze hues to flatter the complexion. Medium skin tones will call for more blondish-Ronze colors to warm up their image, and pale skin tones should aim for brighter shades like copper-auburn undertones.

Dip-Dye

Dip-dyed hairstyles are a really big deal in 2016 because today’s women are keen on bleaching their locks with pastels or bights. This tells us stylists that dip-dye hairstyles will be one of the hottest hair trends in the upcoming seasons. The year 2016 refreshes dip-dye shades with champagne kisses of platinum blonde, just like the hair color Gwen Stefani sported during the MTV’s VMA awards. This sun-kissed feel is really the best way to go for women with light skin who wish to take on an avant-garde makeover.

Eggplant

Eggplant has been around for years, and 2016 has this shade moving into the spotlight again. Deep eggplant hues are perfect for women with dark hair who wish to follow a 2016 trend without having to drift far from their natural hair color. Eggplant tones also eliminate the common concern of having to pay a lot of money to remove a complicated, extreme color because eggplant hues genuinely complement brunette tresses as the color naturally fades.

Platinum Blonde

This 2016 tone is an interesting hair color choice for women with fleshy-skin undertones; it’s also a perfect tone for natural blondes who were once light-haired but finally went darker. Now, most folks believe that platinum blonde is a rather dreary and unclean tone that needs some cheering up; however, nowadays, women who flaunt this style possess a handful of options–balayage, ombre, platinum with dark roots, platinum pixie-cut or silver bettie–that can cease this old myth.

How To Prepare For A Fantastic 2016 Wedding Hairstyle

You are supposed to remember your wedding day forever. This means that aside from your make-up, dress, and shoes, your hair must be perfect too. Just think about all those pictures of you that your family and friends will pass around, afterwards. You’ll really want to look your very best.

Face shape, hair texture and even a woman’s personality are all factors that a pro-stylist consider when creating a 2016 wedding hairstyle; but in order to receive a really stunning result, there are some steps that people can take before making their first appointment…

wedding hair photo

ONE. Be sure to discuss your makeover months ahead with a reliable professional, and then brainstorm a week before the wedding about the final style-choice because once the big day arrives, it can get really annoying if a last-minute change is needed.

TWO. Know your face shape, beforehand; that way, you’ll identify what will work for you and what styles to avoid.

THREE. Recognize your hair’s texture by talking to your hairstylist. Remember that hair texture determines what design will hold together during the ceremony.

FOUR. Consider the dress. A long and flowing, complicated dress will require a simpler hairstyle; you don’t want locks looking too elaborate, if the attention is on the dress. It’s the opposite for gorgeous but simple dresses. Here, your hairstyle should stand out and make a statement.

FIVE. Know what kind of hair really embodies you. A wedding ‘do may look good on the bridesmaid, but that doesn’t mean it will work for you. There are literally hundreds of wedding hairstyles to choose from; so, don’t fret, one of them is bound to fit your persona.

SIX. Remember that 2016 wedding hair is medium to long in length, but there are also some short ones out there that can work with certain face shapes.

SEVEN. Now for the burning wedding hair question … should you wear your hair up or down? The answer: IT REALLY DOESN’T MATTER! What is most important is that on the wedding day, you should look the very best version of yourself.

But that being said, here are some hot, 2016 bridal-updos that you may want to consider flaunting on the big day:

• The Classic Chignon: It has a lot of range and flexibility and can be arranged to fit any type of personality or mood.

• Half-Up and Down: These are chic, unpretentious, and can come in handy when you can’t decide whether to leave the locks up or down.

• The Curly Side Bun: A hairstyle of which its sass depends on how many curls a girl wants to show off.

• The Loose Side Braid: It’s an informal and relaxed appearance that can make a romantic statement.

Five Inspiring Styles For Men with Long Hair

Men’s long hairstyles are exceptionally “in vouge” now; so, let’s talk long-hair trends to inspire those guys out there who own shoulder-length tresses!

HINT: Going very long will require some extra hair care, due to the frequent washing needed to keep the mane in shape. Thus, ask your pro stylist about conditioners and hydration products for moisturizing your locks and improving the mane’s natural shine before sitting in the chair.

men hair photo

Twist-In Bun

Most long hairstyles for men take aim at the guys who have longer manes, but the twist-in bun is a trend that can work even for those men who own just enough hair to flaunt a small ponytail. In fact, that’s actually what a twist-in bun is: two tress sections (separated and twisted freely) that are fixed into a short pony and then coiled in a kind of careless knot. The ends should extend beyond the bun for a totally relaxed vibe.

Half Up Pony

Remember Brad Pitt or Kurt Cobain when they were in their 20s? If you can, then you’ve nailed this 90s-inspired, bun’s image, which requires only that you pull half of your mane up, divide it into two sections, horizontally, and next, secure the upper section with a hair-band.

Braided Rows

Now, I know that there are a lot of guys out there who never in a zillion years can imagine sporting French braids, since the image is mainly linked to women. But trust me, braids can look fantastic on a guy. There is no doubt that Hip-Hop culture has permeated itself into the mainstream, which is what this look is all about. Today’s braided rows are full of pizzaz, and they work well with any hipster, lumberjack-style beard.

Shoulder Length Side Part

A shoulder-length side part on a well-groomed mane is a look that presents a touch of maturity with an added untroubled vibe. The cut requires a professional stylist to pull off an imprecise, deep-side part, where the largest section of the hair will be swept over to one side. This style can also work well for former events, given that untidy hair trends are in vogue this year.

Shaggy Mess With a Single Braid

Most men want a long hairstyle that doesn’t necessitate any fuss or extended grooming time. The shaggy mess with a single braid meets these demands; after a simple wash and blow dry (or air dry), take one small lock section and twist it into a single, simple-braid that is also frail.

What To Expect When Going for A Bang

“Should I bang or not?” is an inner fight in so many of us when we’re dying to make a radical change to our hairstyles. If you own a craving for bangs that just won’t go away, it’s essential to scrutinize that while some celebrity fringe variations may seem easy to pull off, most hair styles with bangs require some bang-101 knowledge, or the fringe could quickly become unbearable to deal with.

I’ve adopted some fringe-guidelines along my professional career on what a client must know if there’re considering getting bangs, and how to deal with a new set of bangs, which I will now pass on to you…

hair bangs photo

Bangs may seem awkward at first.

Soon after you receive the first hack, you may notice your hair holding on to its previous style. New bangs may seem puffy or cowlick when cut for the first time. Patience and diligence is needed for first-timers because it’s all about letting the fringe naturally adjust to its new-fangled style.

Dry shampoo is your best friend.

Bangs won’t be able to handle going a few days without a wash unless you can find a way to nurture them directly. Here’s a hint; try shampooing your bangs by spraying them with a dry shampoo-water solution. This procedure will not only freshen up the dirty fringe, but it will also absorb excess oil for reviving volume (reducing the chances of a lie-flat look).

Go shorter than you think.

Bangs may seem to take forever to grow out, but they always seem to grow out alarmingly fast just when you start loving your new style. Hence, a good rule-of-thumb, here, is to have your stylist trim your fringe slightly above the brow, which should always be a bit shorter than your ideal length; doing this will stretch out an extra a week or two between trims.

Control bang-bending when sweating.

Bangs are prone to bend, period; especially in the summer or after a work out in the gym. However, there is a way to avoid and reduce unwanted curvatures–wear a headband during physical activities, both indoors and outdoors. Headbands will keep your forehead clear and free of excess oil, which will prevent your fringe from bending.

Take it easy on the products.

Simply put, you don’t need a lot of product on your bangs in order for them to stay in place. Heavy product application will almost always leave a fringe looking greasy and flat. This means no smoothing lotions or gel in the fringe area.

All bangs frizz during summer.

Sweat causes bang-frizz, and here’s no way around not sweating during the summer. A solution for this recurring impasse is to adjust your fringe’s style for the seasonal change. Fringes can be trimmed bit longer at cheekbone and parted in the middle part (sexy-curtain bang) in the summer. This cut allows a client to brush the fringe off her face, which lets the bang fall down, naturally, instead of standing straight up.

NEWSFLASH: Summer Celebrity Hair Trends Are In

Summer is just around the corner, and so are those wonderful hot days and nights that usually accompany it. So, now may be the right time to warm things up with a new makeover before the heat gets underway!

Let’s check out the celebs are doing next season!

Bob It

Rihanna’s bob can start a conversation just about anywhere; this “strong-shape” cut is a summer favorite because it’s fresh and contemporary as well as impressive, which tells us a little well-known Hollywood secret that women in Summer 2016 will be sporting this cut at the big-city beaches and nightclubs when the heat kicks in.

Kendal Layers

kendall jenner photo
Photo by Disney | ABC Television Group

Kendal Jenner is growing her hair out and is going for long layers this simmer. This cut is fantastic because the ‘do complements a number of face shapes, and it can happen with or without bangs. Women can wear their long layers either up or down, but this summer, pop-stars like Kendal are dropping their locks to the mid-length region or just below the shoulders.

Shag-a-Delic

A Shag-a-Delic is a retro-90’s, Cindy Crawford inspired cut, where the 2016 magic happens in the layering. Full of beach spray and crunching, this summer style can do justice to round and square-face contours. Superstars like Selena Gomes and Taylor Swift are on board this summer with their Shag-a-Delics, where both celebrities can be seen next season intensifying their cuts with a bit of 2016 shade.

Cool Af Hair

Females with odd-shaped faces will find that a Cool Af cut will match their forms well, especially those heart-shaped gals, who sometimes find it difficult to come across a style that properly suits them. The Cool Af is essentially a versatile lob that’s both textured and messy. The cut supports air drying and spritzing, and it can enhance a girl’s natural waves. No curling iron is necessary here, a simple braid with a blast of hot air can produce some eye-candy, 2016 swirls that everyone at the beach will be talking about.

Summer Lob

alexa chung photo

Celebrities with oval-shaped faces will be flaunting a short lob this summer, but without the layers that we saw on last year’s summer runways. Actress, Alexa Chung, shows us how fewer layers can offer an oval face a more natural presence in the sunlight, which just might work for someone who is procuring an unsullied look during those hot summer nights.

Rainbow Bangs

Musicians like Amber Le Bon and Keke Palmer have made rainbow bangs this summer’s panache look. Splashing colors across the fringe is in, and it makes a bold statement that will certainly require some selfie attention.

How to Protect Your Expensive Style from The Weather

So, what is a woman to do on bad-weather days? Everyone complains about the time it takes to get their hairstyles together, but what really sucks is when it all falls apart as soon as you step out of the house in bad weather.

Let’s talk about weatherproofing your hair for those wintry, wet and windy days by exploring simple and cute styles that are awfully easy to throw together and can suit everyone!

rain photoFor Wind: Chaotic Side Braids

Women adore the chaotic side braid because the style is both wind resistant and so easy pull off; this look will also turn some heads by sending out boho-fun vibes, and people will think that you put a lot of effort into it.

Start with freshly washed hair for best results–touch-dry the locks, and add a little pro-texturizing product to bring out your hair’s innate detail. Next, make your side part, and flank your hair to the shoulder. Don’t be neat; this tress is all about the messy look!

Liberally braid your hair in concert, and let those free strands instinctively fly-away, which is part of this look. Secure the braid with clear bands, placed few inches from the end. Finally, pull the braid’s side knots to create a voluminous and chaotic impression.

The style will keep throughout the day, and even when those tiny strands come loose in intense windy weather, they will just add more personality to your look!

For Snow: Beanie-Knitted Bonnets

Beanie-knitted bonnets or crochet hats come in handy on those frigid, dry snowy days, which cause brittle hair. Your cap will not only protect your mane from the nature’s elements, but it will also insert a serious style-attack to your look.

Here, you can fashion your hair any way you like; haul it into a short bun; or create a flank-fishtail braid; or let the mane hang loose in large waves. The trick is to make sure to rub a little hair serum into the mane before putting on your stylish beanie, which help lock in plenty of moisture.

Most pro-stylist believe that loose waves work best when sporting a beanie cap because the subtle curls produce an alluring measure to this attractive, youthful style. And when the weather gets unusually crazy, you can just tie your hair into a twist, and slip it under the beanie, which is another perk that comes with this weatherproofing safeguard. Trust me; you’ll still look super charming even with your locks tucked away!

For Light Rain: Shabby Top Knots

The topknot is a just a typical high bun; but this stylish-defense is an untidy, comfortable edition that can resist the escaping light rain from an umbrella’s cover. To acquire this weatherproofing fashion, just pass your fingers through the mane, and secure the locks into a ponytail at the top. Now, don’t brush it because that’ll make the tresses too smooth to work with, which is contrary to what this style is about!

Next, add in a few beads of mousse with your palms to give the hair a slight scruffy texture. If find that your locks are too smooth for this casual image, you can blow-dry the mane upside down to add consistency.

Lastly, assemble the hair with slack, and twirl it around the base of the ponytail–don’t be too neat! Also, secure the knot with bobby-pins to keep everything in place!

Going Granny Gray: The Color Trend That’s So Hot Right Now

That’s right; granny hair color is in! Maybe, at this moment, you’re you imagining an elderly, sweet, mature woman who some men might not think as sexy? Well, you’re in for a shocker; contemporary stylists around the nation are making “gray” this season’s hottest hue.

grey hair photo

Today’s Granny hair is avant-garde, edgy and exceptionally modish. This means is that young women can now achieve those youthful ‘silver fox’ facades that were previously reserved only for men.

You may be asking yourself, how could gray hair possibly be a good thing? I mean shouldn’t most people try to cover their white locks, instead of actually adding them to the mane?

Nope, because we are not talking, here, about a monotonous, comatose, monochrome hue; we’re referring to an authoritative and brilliant, ready-to-party shade that’s all about individual style.

Moreover, if you’re naturally gray, this could be your time to shine, since more and more young women are choosing to hit the silver-hue trend. This means mature women can look younger just by being a little creative like opting for an inclusive, hoary wash or choosing silver ascents that range between different tones of sandstone and whitish moonlight.

Why Today’s Young Women Go Granny

There are a lot of reasons to adore 2016’s hottest hair color movement.

To begin with, it’s astonishingly chic. Secondly, the hue gives off such an unapologetically, bold vibe that flaunts confidence all over the place. Singer, Nicole Ritchie, told E-Magazine in an interview that she went granny-gray to obtain a “visibly-arresting” image that was more than just visual eye-candy; she wanted a color to add dimension to her personality as well.

Fashion celebrity, Kelly Osbourne, added to Ritchie’s initiative in a March, Vogue-Online chat, saying that when a person chooses to go gray, they are “clearly breaking from tradition” and “are not looking for a color that allows them to yield to the status quo.”

Why Gray Works Kindly

Hair coloring is all about choosing tones that complement skin tone, which is why granny-gray succeeds because this color is about as natural and universal as it gets.

A gray hue can shine well by itself in a solid, single color bathe, or in a gradient, granny-ombre or with other tones; that’s how versatile this new color-craze is. Trendsetters can also adjoin pastel strands (lilac, insipid peach, pink) to the silver hue, or they can even go for the biggest color trend this year: gray-and-rainbow pastel locks!

So, there you have it…granny gray in a nutshell. This new hair movement proves how something that’s been considered a big “no-way” like-since, forever, can unexpectedly become the quintessence of beauty and provocation.

In beauty school, we learn to tell our clients not to worry when setting their own rules. An on that note, my advise to you gray-ers out there is this: Gray was gorgeous before it became chic, and it will still be beautiful even when the granny-gray trend fades away.

Is It Time For A Makeover?

Whether you’ve owned the same hairstyle for years or just recently strived for something new; it may be time for a change. So the question remains…when should I adjust my aura?

Let’s see……

fashion photo• Your style from three years ago has become in-vogue again.
• It’s just easier to pull back your hair.
• Styling everyday is boring.
• Your color looks mousey, uninteresting, and comatose
• No one tells you anymore that your hairstyle rocks.
• You find yourself desiring other people’s cuts.
• You could use a self-esteem pick-me-up.
• You’ve just landed a new job, lost weight, or are heading to a new town.

Sound familiar? Well then it may be time for a change, and here is how to do it…..

FIRST: Find a Professional

You’ll want to pick a hairstylist that you can trust when changing your image. Taking on a new look demands that you put your individuality into the hands of another person. Ask your neighbors, friends, co-workers, or relatives, who walk around with great hair, which professional they use. You can even politely ask a stranger with amazing hair who her stylist is, if you’re brave enough, or seek recommendations online.

SECOND: Know Your Boundaries

When sitting in a new chair for a makeover, whether you’re redoing your color, your cut, or both, it’s important to know what you want, and to know what your limits are. Check out a few hairstyles, beforehand, print them, and take them with you to your appointment. A picture can really speak a thousand words.

However, it is important to allow your hairstylist that creative freedom to offer you suggestions, but make sure that the end results is a new style that you just love.

Just some things to think about:

• New Color – face brightening, fresh new look.
• Short Hair – sexy, feminine, and romantic.
• Bangs – make sure you like ‘em.
• Bobs – edgy, polished and easy to style.
• Layers – can frame the face in a complimentary way.
• Maintenance – could mean the difference between receiving a makeover you love and something you dislike (regular cut and color maintenance is a must-do).

LASTLY: Own Your New Updated Look

Flaunting a new image around town can be a shocking experience, especially if you’ve held the same hairstyle for ages. Own your unique makeover, beginning by noticing the favorable ascetics of your fresh style. Next, take pleasure in your new, bright look; show it off; have fun with it; and let your trendy hairstyle arouse new confidence in yourself.

Six Celebrity Cuts For Men With Receding Hairlines

Most men notice it at some point…those strands of hair that cling to the fingers while taking a shower. By age thirty-five, about sixty percent of men will suffer perceptible hair loss. And by age sixty, three out of four of men will notice significant thinning.

buzz cut photo

Just because the follicular department challenges you doesn’t mean that you have to succomb to the status quo as well. Think of the dilemma as an opening to revive your likeness. For example, celebrity, Jude Law, always seems to pull off a hip hairstyle every year, even though his hairline recedes successively.

ONE: Textured and Spiked

Bradley Cooper is thinning, but you would not know it from the textured cut he flaunts across town. Cooper likes to keep his sides short, almost to an insistent high fade. From there, he adds more length on top for an element of distraction. Sting and Daniel Day-Lewis also own this style to draw attention away from their receding hair lines.

TWO: Silver Fox

CNN’s Anderson Cooper sports this style during his daily broadcasts. The silver fox works great for men who still own hair on the top. The trick here is to trim the mane short but to keep it long enough to part and flip some locks over to the side. A classic taper on the sides and back will put a fine finish on the fox image, as long as the taper is blended flawlessly with the rest of the mane.

THREE: Buzz Cut

John Travolta is with no doubt the king of the buzz cut. For those men who are not ready to shave it all off but still have to deal with a hairline in full recession and nothing on top, the buzz cut may be the answer. It offers a fresh, no-fuss, vogue image that does not say, “I’m going bald.” Adam Levine parades this power look at his concerts well.

FOUR: Au Natural

Woody Harrelson is the master saint of the au natural look. To pull this image off, all you have to do is to keep the mane short on the sides and to leave everything else as it is. Facial hair also is a great attention diverter here.

FIVE: Layered Shag

For men who are only starting to thin and are not yet ready to go super short, ask your stylist to add some graceful, textured layers. Bon Jovi and Johnny Depp use this tussled style, which offers them a deliberate scruffy facade.

SIX: Power Donut

Remember Ed Harris in All The Right Stuff? He went completely clean on top and long on the sides. The power donut shows off a circle of unshaved hair holding on to a shaved and sophisticated dome.

How To Have An Honest Conversation With Your Stylist

Have you ever sat in the chair with all sorts of questions going through your mind? Or even promised yourself that “this time for sure,” your gonna ask, only to find yourself biting your tongue again?

hairdresser photoBelieve or not, most women feel timid or nervy when sitting in the hot seat, or some even get sidetracked by their stylist’s trendy ideas. However, the solution to a blissful connection between the professional and a satisfactory result is really in solid communication.

Nine women out of ten can avoid bad hairdos if they know how to speak to their stylist. So, let’s break it down in laymen’s terms and advise you on what a successful conversation with your professional should be like.

First: Talk about your at-home skills.

A stylist needs to know what you can or what you are willing to do at home after you leave the chair. Leaving your appointment with an awesome cut, only to discover a few days after that the style has gone flat can be disheartening.

For example, if you can’t be bothered with daily blow-drying, maybe a straight-hair cut is not for you. Or if you’re going for the trendy rainbow-pastel color but don’t want to indulge in purchasing pro-style color products, you’re going to be sorely disappointed with your new image after about a week.

Just remember, it’s a lot better to be upfront than to be encumbered with a style you can’t manage at home.

Second: Ask about the cost.

Do you want a Scarlett Johansson ombre updo? Well, it’s going to cost you. The image you desire may be worth it, but don’t be blind to reality of the time and work at hand. Nothing is more embarrassing for a client than experiencing a glitch when it comes time to pay.

It’s very “OK” to tell your pro-stylist that you’re on a budget (he or she is probably on one too).

Oh Yeah: Forget about those social media pics.

Bringing social media photos to your appointment is not productive. Instagram and Pinterest are the world’s amusement park of hair legends; if you’re looking for the fairy-tale fast transition from black hair to blonde, you might as well ask the Instagram fairy godmother for one.

Keep in mind that there’s a whole lot of editing, touch-ups and magic filters/effects involved in social media postings; and while your stylist may be a one-of-a-kind pro, they’re still very human.

Next: Enlighten the stylist on why you made the appointment.

Did you know that most appointments are made either right after or just before a major life event? Breakups, weddings, new job or new town…whatever the reason, it’s important never to explore a brand new image without first questioning the motivation behind it.

Sometimes, change is awesome, but timing is also everything. Talking candidly to your stylist about why you want a makeover can be a great way to analyze the large decisions from a distance. This way, your professional can offer you some options that can be effortlessly “undone,” if circumstances ever change.

And, Lastly: Distinguish between fixing and creating color.

It’s one thing to desire new hues, but its something else to have your stylist rescue a failed coloring job. If you need hue correction, the stylist must consider a separate line of attack compared to just executing a new color assignment. For example, going red is very different from using auburn hues to mask a faulty grey color job.

Always tell your stylist:

– What you desired.
– What you got in its place.
– What went wrong and why.
– What you would like now.

FYI- a professional color correction is always going to cost a bit more, even if you’re just covering up an at-home color job fail.
