Children’s Haircuts Need Variety and Style

Boys and girls hair styles can be as fun and as varied as their parent’s. Whether your child wants a long or short style, he or she has a wide range of styles to choose from. There are many factors that will help you to determine which type of style will work for your child.

The first thing to consider is your child’s age. If very young, you may want to consider a simple cut. You will be the one who has to take care of your young child’s hair, and you don’t want a cut that will require a lot of maintenance. Young children look best in simple, carefree styles.

Take lifestyle into consideration. Is your child active and plays sports? If so, consider a shorter style that is easy to care for like a short comb forward style for boys. Active girls may prefer a short bob or layered cut that is wash and go with a minimal amount of styling time, while some may want to have long hair that they can pull back into a ponytail to give them more options.

As your child nears teenage years they will want more sophisticated styles. There are several options available that are easy to care for yet give your pre-teen a hip sense of style. Just look at any Disney or Nickelodeon show and you will see that boys and girls alike have short and long styles that have a lot of fun and movement. Encourage your pre-teen to stay with styles that don’t require a lot of fuss and product since they will still have get to school on time, and they need enough sleep.

No matter what style your child desires, a good stylist can help you and your child make the right choice for their age and lifestyle. Mimicking popular styles should be moderated by tailoring them to your child’s hair type and thickness. Consult a stylist who enjoys working with children.

Make A Bold Fashion Statement With The Latest 2010 Punk Hair Styles

In the world we live in, diversity, creativity, and originality always attracts attention. It draws people to look and stare, especially if what they see is pleasing to the eye. Punk hair is all these. However, there is a thin line with punk hair styles between what is considered fashionable, and what is considered simply atrocious.

Finding the right balance is what 2010 hair styles is all about. With punk hairstyles, you need to make sure that it will compliment, not just your outfit, but, your face, your lifestyle, and the overall image you want to project.

Shocking the world with a punk hair do is not that big a deal anymore. What will make people stop and appreciate the punk look is if it is styled properly, not grungy-looking, and timely.

The latest in punk hairstyles that are going to create the right image for you are the windswept look, punk Mohawk, the skate punk look, and the Gothic punk style.

The windswept look is the easier hair cut to shift to punk. All you need is a great textured cut, and then you style it with colors, hard fringes, and the right make-up. The beauty of this hair style is that it is very versatile and low maintenance.

On the other hand, the punk Mohawk look is high maintenance, and will need a lot of styling products and time to get the right look. Usually, with this edgy hair cut, you need to highlight the difference in style with vivid colors, braids, and hair length. You also have the option of creating spikes or leaving it short.

The skate punk hair style is an asymmetrical cut that should have highlights and spikes. Check out Kelly Osborne to get the idea.

Another word for Gothic is the horror look. It has the expected short spiky look, usually in dark hair colors. This is the “I am dangerous” kind of look that a woman can try, but will not always be appropriate in all occasions. While it is going to be a liberating experience to try this hair style, it is usually reserved for the younger generation.

If you want to try the punk hair style, but are afraid to go all out, then keep your hair length longer than the boy cut. You can also get faux Mohawks or choppy edges. Finally, the hair colors you decide on should be more on the neutral side, than on the bright oranges or green. This way, its extremely easy to shift to a more conservative look.

Women: Bring Your Man to the Hair Salon!

Clooney in 2009

It’s all about the hair! Women should bring their men to the hair salon when they are thrilled with the service received from the hairstylist. She can bring her man in for the service and expect the same results.

While some men use a barber for a quick cut and male bonding, they don’t see barbers as hair stylists; hair salons offer services that the typical barber doesn’t. The old-fashioned barber shop is also going the way of the dinosaur. Hot lather machines, straight razor, and a leather razor strap are things of the past.

That long line of waiting is gone, too, reading pieces of a newspaper and Field and Stream while 3 other guys go before you, and you munch on stale popcorn. Do you really miss it? One benefit of a full salon is appointments with no waiting. You can even make a dual-appointment for husband and wife.

Salons offer hair highlights, hair coloring, hair care tips, and yes, good coffee and tea (often), pedicures and manicures (helping men look professional), waxing (men definitely need it too!), and consultations on thinning hair (the barber just slaps on some ointment, pats your face, and turns you loose). Salon stylists pursue continuous training in the latest trends and can offer advice for a more fashionable look and products to achieve the look.

While men may look dapper in a great outfit, a haircut can make or break the look. A good hairstyle costs a little more than 20minutes in the barber’s chair, but it retains shape longer and is one the focal points people will notice first about you. It’s your resume written in personal appearance.

So next time, make two appointments! Get your man in the stylist’s chair, make it a family event (bring the kids, too), and come away looking fantastic as a team. You’ll get more time together, and expose your loved ones to new options for an incredible appearance.

Man Braids Keep Long Hair Neat

August 20, 2009 by Anastasia

Many men with long hair wear pony tails. No matter how ‘tame’ a man’ ponytail starts out, though, stray hair strands start to fall out of place and, eventually, it can all become annoying. As a solution to this, a lot of men braid their hair.

A common misconception about braids is that they’re uniquely feminine. Both historically (think Brave Heart) and now, there are a number of braid styles that can be sported by masculine guys with long hair. Increasingly popular among these are cornrows, dreadlocks, and micro braids.

The archer Legolas Greenleaf, here portrayed b...

Cornrows are much like French braids, woven closely to the scalp. These are usually worn by African-American men (think Snoop Dogg, Allen Iverson and Sean Paul) but are gaining wider popularity. In recent years, cornrow braids have become a sort of ‘head-art’, where the braids can even be made into geometric or curving patterns. Creating cornrows, especially with complicated patterns, can take more than a few hours. But you can wear these braids for few weeks, or even months, at a time.

Micro braids are like cornrows, but they fall free from the head.  They make a good hairstyle for ear to shoulder length hair, since this hairstyle puts a lot of stress on hair follicles and has potential to cause damage with longer hair.

Dreadlocks, though not entirely a braid style, work better for long hair. This hairstyle made popular by reggae artist Bob Marley, and originally donned by Jamaican Rastafarians and Indian yogis, can be created in the traditional method by letting the hair matte by delaying washing and not combing. Easy enough, if that is your thing. But if you’d rather be smelling fresh, dreads can be acquired in a salon where the process of back-combing and rolling separate strands of hair is employed. Be warned though, that the only way to get rid of dreadlocks is to cut them off. So take some time to think about getting this hairstyle, since you’ll end up with a shiny dome once you’re done with it and want to move on.

Legolas Braid: The various braids described above, often as not, are not allowed in an office setting. If you still want to wear your hair long and wear it at the office without looking too inappropriate, you could opt to have a Swiss braid. This braid, also known by the names herringbone and fishtail, was made famous by the Elf archer Legolas of the Lord of the Rings trilogy. It secures all of the hair and keeps it away from the face making you look clean and presentable up front while your hair looks gorgeous behind.

So don’t fret, if you have long hair. You can style it with braids to keep it in place and be cool and look spiffy and manly at the same time.

Men’s Summer Hair Styles

August 8, 2009 by Anastasia

Summer is still in full force, with many parts of the country seeing 100-degree days or hotter. As the seasons change (or persist), so do fashion and hairstyles. Typical men’s hairstyles are restricted to short or cropped haircuts, but men today are becoming more expressive with their hair.

One of the common hairstyles men sport during summer is a shaved head. It looks clean and has almost zero daily maintenance. It can even be acceptable in corporate circles. When Michael Rosenbaum shaved his tresses to star as Lex Luthor in Smallville, thousands of men did the same – don’t forget Vin Diesel as well. So if you want to stay cool this summer and still look professionally chic, try the shaved head style.

But if you are reluctant to part with your beautiful man locks, you might want to try cutting it short and styling it with hair gel. Make it a bit longer in front and shorter in the back to keep hair away from the neck. Then style your hair with your fave brand of styling gel, after drying it, so you look like you just got out of bed. This kind of hair was sported by Zac Efron of High School Musical and Robert Pattison of Twilight fame. The style makes for a sexy look and that fits in well at the beach.

Still, if you want to go even longer, you may tie back your hair in a low ponytail and let your long bangs frame your face. It will help you stay cool and look hot in this warm weather. If you want your hair to stay in place, then why not have a stylist braid your hair. When done properly, braided hair makes for a clean, respectable look, as it keeps longer hair away from the face. Also, with proper care, you could keep your hair in braids for a couple of weeks or so, and have a significant other rebraid them as needed.

Be yourself and go with what’s comfortable. Visit a stylist for a consultation and ideas to make you attractive and comfortable in the heat and on the go.

Military Hair Styles Increasingly Popular Among Men

Are you among the growing ranks of men going for the military look?

Reasons for choosing military styles include:

  • Military
  • lean look
  • Fits my face and head
  • Significant other likes it

There are multiple styles to choose from, based on their aesthetic appeal, they are:

Haircut #1: The Induction Cut is the shortest cut; and hence the name, it is the first cut you get when you begin Basic Training. The style is created by clippers; you don’t need to be a barber to give this cut! Most civilians (non-military) ask for the Burr, as it is a good style for the man that is going bald. This style follows the curve of the head, emphasizing roundness.

Haircut #2: The Flattop is the favorite with upper brass of the military; the name says it all, the crown of your haircut is flat. The flattop can be altered by making the frontal portion of the hair into a U shape; this style is called the horseshoe flattop. If you want to look masculine, tall, and sporty, this is the hairstyle for you.

Hairstyle #3: The Crew Cut is the favorite among schoolchildren, mostly during the summer. Like the Induction Cut, the Crew Cut is a good style for the man that is going bald. This style adapts to most men’s head shape, face and neck shape, frontal hairline and facial features. An adaptation of this hairstyle is the Ivy League which is a longer crew cut favored by business men.

Hairstyle #4: The High and Tight is popular with military characters in movies because it is a stylish cut. There are two versions of this style; the second being the more extreme, the High and Tight Recon. This style looks like an extremely short Mohawk, or a patch of hair on the crown.

Classic Mens Hairstyles Are Back

July 13, 2009 by Anastasia

Men need to be just as aware of their appearances as women, and 2009 is seeing a revival of classic men’s hairstyles that should seriously be given consideration.

No matter whether you’re a wild boy at heart or the more laid back type, there are popular hairstyles that will fit your look and your lifestyle.

The slicked-back look is as stylish and as sophisticated as ever. Being possibly the easiest style to obtain and definitely the sleekest, slicking the hair back has been a staple of black tie affairs for years. But in 2009, the style has seen a revival in more casual situations as well. The one drawback is that slicking your hair back makes your face look larger, which is the last thing anyone with a round or pudgy face needs.

An alternative to the above may very well be the opposite: a parted hairstyle.

Parting your hair is incredibly versatile and it’s possible to change your entire look on a whim simply by combing the part in a different area. Additionally, the style works with a wide variety of hair lengths so your look will not worsen as it grows out.

If neither of those hairstyles fits how you see yourself, a more casual style, with bangs, should be appetizing. Bangs is a style that is layered from the back all the way to the front with your bangs to the side or in your face. It is much less easy to take care of than the possibilities above, but it is very good looking and works with most facial features and shapes.

It can be difficult to determine which style will look best with your face. Call and make an appointment for a consultation and we can find a style that will flatter all your best features and make you the best looking man you can be.

Anime Hair Is Taking The World By Storm

There’s no disputing how anime has affected hair fashion for young adults.

marimoon versão anime/mangá

From hair colors that were previously unimaginable to have in public, to styles that were never before attempted, anime style hair has completely changed preconceptions about what we can and can’t do with hair.

Bright, loud colors are the name of the game in going with an anime look. A bright, light pink or blueberry blue go a long way to establishing a whole new look, even if you keep the same hairstyle.

The hairstyles themselves can range from tight bobs and pixy styles to almost porcupine-like spikes — the styles are nearly endless. Most require thick hair, but a more traditional anime style cut can be done with thin hair and still look fantastic.

It’s important to choose a style that forms well with your face. You may want one just like your favorite character, but that exact style might not turn out as well as you hope. Luckily, it’s possible to work with your hair to get a style that’s close to your favorite, no matter the facial type. The key is getting an experienced stylist who is adventurous and comfortable with hair styles based on anime.

You don’t need a mirror-image hairstyle to look just like who you want. Even if your style is close but not quite the same, you and anyone who is familiar with the character you’re trying to emulate will be able to tell. That’s one of the great things about anime hair.

The best thing about going with an anime style look is that you will look unique almost anywhere you go. And if you’re heading to a convention, a professionally done style will really make you stand out from all of those who did theirs at home.

If you want to make your hair up to look like your favorite anime character for whatever reason, or just get an anime style that really contributes to your face shape, a quick consultation will get you on the road to an accurate recreation or style. Call for a consultation with Anastasia to see if your favorite anime hairstyle would work for you.

Men Are Turning to Hairstylists to Break Free from The Mold

April 2, 2009 by Anastasia
Filed under Men's Hair Styles & Cuts

There is an increased interest among men to look their best, and some barbershops just do not offer the style selections that salons provide.Men are increasingly turning to hairstylists instead of the barbershops they’ve traditionally frequented. The days where it was taboo for a man to care about his hair enough to walk into a salon are over.

The Barber Hairstyle Guide

There are a lot of talented barbers. But honestly, if you do not want your hair to be cut into a flat top or buzz cut, or one of the standard cookie cutter cuts, it may be best that you go to a professional hairstylist. Many barbers offer very little variety in their cuts, and are really more suitable as places of male bonding. You go to a barbershop to get the same ol’ haircut repeatedly, and a friendly atmosphere. A barber would even give you a mullet if you asked them to! There is little to no style feedback in barbershops, as that is simply not what they are catering to.

In general, you go to a barber for a trim up on your unchanging hairstyle and a smile, you go to a hairstylist for a stylish hairstyle and suggestions on what would look best on you. If you are a man who cares about his looks and staying in style, being adventurous, or just exploring your options, then going to a professional hairstylist is for you. You will get a style that you both love and works well with your facial features, skin tone, face shape, etc. Salons may not be for macho men, but they are for those out there who prefer being attractive over looking like every Tom, Dick, and Harry.

If you’re a man who wants his hairstyle to stand out in a crowd, or simply wants a new modern look, there is an option for you. Call Anastasia for a consultation or appointment and we can find the perfect hairstyle for you to break free from the shackles of blandness! You do not have to have a boring, uncreative hairstyle, just because it’s easy to find. A hairstyle that works with your facial features will make you look better than you ever imagined.

Cheap Haircuts Cost More

A guest article from someone who wished to remain anonymous…

Image and video hosting by TinyPicWe often think that by spending less we could already save a lot of money. This could be true for some situations but not at all times, as we try to look for cheaper alternatives, this can sometime lead to spending more and buying things which should have been unnecessary. Let us try to look back at my previous experience.

It was sometime last year when I went out with my friends malling. We passed by this new salon wherein they have colorful promotional banners all over the place, “FREE PEDICURE FOR EVERY FOOT SPA”, “FIFTY PERCENT OFF FOR ALL HAIR TREATMENTS”, “FREE HAIRCUT FOR EVERY HOT OIL SERVICE”. The last promotional banner caught my attention. I was even more persuaded to go in when I saw there are a lot of girls coming in and out of the salon, not to mention the free drinks and cookies they were giving their customers as part of their marketing strategy.

We immediately went inside and tried their services. I opted to have the hot oil treatment with which I could have the free hair cut. A petite lady came and introduced herself, she was friendly. She started rinsing my hair after which she already applied the hot oil treatment. Everything was so fast, she finished in less than twenty minutes; massaged my hair for 5 minutes then rinsed. After which it was blow dried then another salon staffer came to cut my hair, in less than ten minutes, I was done already and was instructed to the counter since another group of teen ladies were going to our area.

After paying we decided to go home. When I arrived home, I immediately went to my room and checked my new hair. After thirty minutes of combing and facing the mirror I noticed that my hair was not done evenly. At first, I thought it was just a new hair style but as days passed by I started to get annoyed with some of my hair falling in different directions. To make it look better, I bought hair clips in all different colors and shapes, thinking I could wear different everyday to cope with my new hairstyle.

After a week of putting on hair clips, which is very distracting, since I have to mix and match things, I decided to just put highlights in the uneven hair falling in my forehead and ears to make me more fashionable. But after being an anti-fashion icon for weeks, I decided to got to my favorite hair stylist and have my hair done again. Want to know who fixed my hair? You guessed it!

Now I feel and look better. My new hairstyle fits my personality, and I don’t have to worry everyday about how to arrange my hair. I came to realize that by using cheap hair cut services, it cost me more by buying things which should have been unnecessary in the first place. I created a need to buy all those clips, highlights and still ended up redoing my hair.

We should remember that we should not be easily tempted with promotions and discounts. We should be able to weigh whether it is worth availing ourselves of said discounted rates, especially when we are talking of hair cuts which need the expertise and confidence of your hairstylist.

Anastasia Says: Get your stylist involved in making cost-effective decisions about your appearance. I’m available, if you’d like to come in for a cut and a consult – call first to make sure I’m there. Or just call me to make an appointment, and we’ll get to work transforming your hair in a way that puts all questions to rest.
