Hairstyles in the News September 19, 2011

Welcome to this week’s Hairstyles in the News! This week we have several updos that incorporate our old friend, the bobby pin. Bobby pins may be the unsung heroes of the hairstyle world. That may sound a bit silly, but think about how much stylists depend on the humble bobby pin to hold not only casual, but very intricate styles in place. Celebrities and their stylists also know a good set of bobby pins is essential for looking stunning on the red carpet. It seemed like most celebrities preferred updos this week, but a wavy casual style is also becoming very popular. Now, on to the celebrity hairstyles of the week…

At the Take Shelter premier on Sept. 15th Jessica Chastain had her hair styled in a wavy shoulder length look that is easy to wear and easy to create. If you’re blessed with wavy hair, you could wash and go with just a bit of brushing and hairspray to keep everything under control. If not, use hot rollers or a curling iron to form soft waves, spray with hairspray and shine spray and you’ve got a style that can be worn anytime.

Lilly Collins wore her hair up and held everything in place with a cute hairband and concealed bobby pins at the Abduction premier on Sept. 15th. This style is very reminiscent of Audrey Hepburn, and is an easy one to do. First back comb your hair on the crown, section out your bangs and use a flat iron to give them direction, and next twist your hair up into a low French twist. Insert the bobby pins vertically instead of horizontally to get the most holding power and keep everything in place. You can wear a headband that blends in with your hair, or one that gives you a bit of contrast.
